I have just come to the ralization that sugar in moderation for me just is not a relationship in the making. I am sad to say that I am going to have to break up with the yummy white stuff in order to cahieve my goals!!!! Anyone else want to join the pitty party? I know in the long run I will be happier because of this.Just had to post publically that it is an official breakup! You can count me in on the Aug. challenge!
 
You know you can do it!!!! In the beginning, I started with jello sugar free choc pudding's to help get me thru. Started using splenda, and that helped alot too. Your best bet is to go for fruit if you have a sugar urge. You can get the Dannon's Carb Control Yogurt by Atkins that has only 1g of sugar, if you like yogurt. 1g of sugar is not going to wreck havoc for you at any rate.

You can do it! Join the check in and take it one day at a time.
I thought it would be horrifying but it's not. Once you stop putting that white crap in your body and see the difference, eventually you won't want it anymore. Well you may want it, but you'll tell yourself I'm working too hard to eat this junk. I kid you not!

You know, I had to do the same thing. I told my husband how hard it was to ween myself. He said, and I quote, "Do you think that it would have been better for me to smoke one less cigarette a day until three months down the road I decided I liked it too much to quit completely, or to stop completely and never look back?" That got me. He has been smoke free for over four years, and I only have little somethings very seldom now, thanks to the check in! Join us! It is so much better when you have people doing it with you! You need a support group and to be encouraged. So I guess, there is already a pity party in progress, and you are invited! :p

Okay, I'm with you! I'll do it too, I've been struggling to face this realization. I feel like crummy, when I eat crummy! How far are you going? White sugar, white flour, honey, maple syrup, caffeine, splenda, corn syrup, nutra sweet, white pasta, chocolate?? I want to give up white sugar and I don't think I want to replace it with fake stuff. Caffeine and chocolate have to go. The white flour and pasta, do I have to give these up? This makes me want to cry!! I really like my pasta. Did you already start?

I'm the same as you. Even if the word "moderation" were in my vocabulary, it could never apply to sugar. It's all or nothing for me.

You'll find that once you get used to it, it's really not so bad. It's just retraining your taste buds. It's wonderful to be rid of the blood sugar spikes!
 
o, I haven't started yet, but I really think the artificial sweetners might have to go too. THey just make me crave more sugar. I really think I am addicted!!!
 
I have to stay away completely too! Cannot master moderation...a morsel sets off a tirade! Substitutes don't help but fuel the fire.

Good news is I have been staying away for some time now and can say that once you are detoxed and it is out of your system, you don't crave it! Something to look forward too!
 
Good for you!!!! After about 3 weeks (maybe even after just 2!) on a low glycemic plan (or are you only cutting out "processed sugar"?, your body is going to feel so much better! You'll have a ton more energy. :) (tip: if you balance the amount of protein and low glycemic carbs you have at EACH meal -- incl snacks--you won't have cravings).

For a substitute sweetner, if you drink tea or coffee, for examaple, you can try Stevia. It's all natural. I've used it in oatmeal and on grapefruit, and it's great. I get mine from Whole Foods. If you use too much, it can have a anise-like taste. So, use only a little.

Sarah is right . I have been really good on the no sweets for 6 or 7 weeks now (I Have to look at my calander) I have only had one bag of M&Ms That was a Slip after 3.5 weeks .And I do not use any artificial sweeteners as they just get me started ... Plus I just think they are bad bad bad.If I stay Away from the junk .I dont want it !!! And I'm really seeing some results !!! So just keep plugging away.I guess if you slip just get right back at it the moment you sallow that choc etc .... .This group is such great support I just love it !!!!
 
Glad to hear that I'm not the only one. I'm so tired of hearing that you need to have small treats in your regular diet. I find it much easier to not eat a piece of cake than to eat just one piece. I feel so much better when I stick to clean eating.
