Coincidence...I think NOT!

Okay, so I just got home from the opthamologist and I just had to share this with you all. I've worn glasses for the past 17 years and, in all that time, my prescription (which isn't that strong to begin with) has NEVER changed, not even a tweak. Well, today my exam showed that my eyesight has actually improved in the past two years...enough that she had to weaken my prescription. She joked about the fact that I must be "eating something right" and I kind of laughed, but that got me thinking. It was just about eighteen months ago that I started to clean up my diet and I dropped a significant amount of weight. The knowledge that I've been able to glean from all of you wonderful people on this forum has truly changed my life.

My diet today is very, very clean and full of every fruit and vegetable I can get my mitts on with very, very little processed junk. I really have to think that today's news is a direct result of my improved nutrition. I used to put very little weight in all those nutritional studies that we're constantly hearing about on the news and reading about in magazines but you can bet I certainly believe them a bit more now. So this is a great big "Thank you" to everyone here. Just some food for thought...

Take care,
Wendi

Wow! Great for you :) What exactly are you eating? I want to change my prescript, too :p

Wendi - oh, I so agree! I think that anything that can make you feel the way clean eating makes you feel HAS to be good for you! I love hearing about your proof! And congrats on your weight loss!!

Correct me if I'm wrong on this one. I thought that as you get older your eye sight improves (if you are near sighted).

I was always borderline on needing glasses, but what pushed me over the edge was that I couldn't see as well at night when driving.

When I hit about 38 things seemed to be improving-- like the trees started to have individual leaves on them instead of a big glob of green on the top.

Then at around 40 my husband commented that I don't complain about driving at night anymore(I didn't know I used to complain about this).

All that said, I'd bet with your weight loss and clean eating and healthy lifestyle you have definetely tipped the odds in your favor on the improved eyesight. Maybe made it happen faster?

I was diagnosed with ocular hypertension (a glaucoma indicator) several years ago. I was put on eye drops and monitored, as I had no optic nerve damage. I lost abut 50 lbs and at another eye exam, my eye pressures were substantially lower.

My opthamologist contributed it to the drops and he also said my weight loss could be a contributing factor. He has since taken me off the drops (also because of some other factors in my case) and my optical pressures have stayed lower!

I wish my eyesight would improve, though! As I approach 47, I am getting more and more far-sighted, totally the opposite of my younger years.

It's wonderful that your eyes have improved! I guess we have to always remember that what we put in our bodies affects... well... our bodies!!!

Wendi, I went to the dentist a few months ago. I had a tooth that needed a route canal like, last year! I never had it done. So the dentist did another set of X-rays, and get this, I did not need the RC anymore! My teeth have improved and he said it was from the change in my diet! And believe me, my teeth SUCK! So kudos to you and to me!

I'm 38 and just went to the opthamologist last month for my yearly exam. For about 6 months I was having a difficult time seeing out of my contacts and glasses. I assumed my eyesight had gotten worse, but it had improved by half! No wonder I couldn't see! My doctor(like you) says that if you are nearsighted, improvement often happens around this age. I'm thrilled!!! (However, it also means I will probably need reading glasses soon :( ). Oh, well, I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts :)

Becky - It's nice to know that I'm not nuts about this. My mother is almost legally blind without her glasses (trifocals, no less) and I figured that was the path I was heading down...

Doreen - That's great! Eye pressure issues are quite serious. I actually have had a lot of experience with eye problems (horse related only, but still the same organ) and trying to control eye pressures. We had one whose eye started to shrink in response to an E.coli infection but that's a whole 'nother story. We did save the eye though. Congratulations on the weight loss!

Maeghan - That's just wild!!! I would never have thought that diet would be a factor other than the decreased sugar being easier on your tooth enamel. I like the idea that a change in diet can improve your teeth like that. I come from a family with extremely weak teeth so I'm so hopeful now that maybe, just maybe, I won't have the same issues that my mother has. Kudos is right!

Take care,
Wendi

Way to go! I'm also nearsighted, but I haven't seen an improvement yet. I've had the same prescription for years.

I, too, skeptical about "eating clean" until I tried it for myself. My monthly is much lighter and I used to have terrible "chicken skin." Well, it's not all gone, but it certainly has improved to where I'm not embarassed to wear sleeveless shirts.

Congratulations on the eye exams! Here's to eating clean!
