Clothes shopping for large waist

I'm trying to shop online for a pair of shorts and I'm following the size measurements. My measurements are 36-28-36. My waist is a size 8-10 and my hips are a size 4-6. So if I buy a pair of shorts to fit my waist, my hips are usually swimming in fabric. I know most women are more pear-shaped than I am, but I was wondering how unusual my problem is? Anyone else out there like me? If so, how do you buy clothes?

I do...with online stuff. When I have ordered online and picked a size by measurements the item usually was too big. I would go with the size that fits you normally.

My waist is 28 (last time I checked)and have hips that are 34 inches. I wear a size 2. Where are you measuring your waist?

Nancy - I HEAR YOU! That's one of the reasons I like the "just below the waist" pants so much. If it's at my waist, I can either not button them or they are huge over my hips and rear. I dread when high waist pants come back in style.
 
Good idea. Does anyone know of any website that sells lower-waisted shorts that I can buy and have by this weekend? I have no time to get to a store, yet must appear somehow put-together over the July 4th weekend. :eek:
