Chinup Check In 8/1

JMFRANE

Cathlete
Hello Chinsters. Wow August 1st!

Briee-Thanks for that motivating post the other day. It made me want to go do some negs except I am at work.

Soooosan-sorry to hear about your set back. Please don't give up. We have to keep trying. Let yourself heal and then go back slowly. Hope you are having a nice trip.

Melody-It was great reading about your children. Thanks for sharing. You sound like such a great mother.

Janie-I've been meaing to tell you that you should be very proud of your son. He sounds like a very smart and hard working young man.

Catherine and everyone-I do not have the PX90 (or what ever it is called). Are there certain exercises that I could do from there that would help with the chins that Cathe doesn't do?

I worked on my chins yesterday and I can actually start to pull up a little. Very encouraging. I have a looooong way to go but I know I am pulling up a tad bit more. Yea!!!

HB and everyone-you are all so helpfull with this challenge. Just wanted to say thanks for all the great info.

Joanne

You're welcome! Today is a chinning day for me, too! And push-ups.

Hi Joanne and Honeybunch!

Joanne, thanks for your kind words. And ^5 that upward movement. I was moving upward about 2 inches and then my neck starting telling me to stop again.x( I'm leaving for the beach Friday and after a week of R&R will try my chin negatives and "attempts" again.

Honeybunch, what can I say. You are such an inspiration and motivator. Thanks for being here.

Remember people, have some fun today.:)

Joanne,

Congratulations on your pull ups. A little is a lot on this exercise! Isn't hard!?!x(

Honeybunch1, let us know how your chinnies are comming along, and how many push-ups you did today. You inspire the heck out of me. I'll be doing mine today as well, will post again later.:7

Hi Melody girl, you sound great. Friday is a few days from now, but wanted to tell you to have fun with your wonderful kids. When you get back the bar will be waiting for ya. Just be careful of your neck.:)

Talk with all of you later, I'm off to do some work.

Janie

Hello everyone in chinup land!!! I did PlyoX tonight and it felt soooooooo good!! In a way I am glad I skipped it last night. I just didn't have the energy. Tomorrow is back and biceps. Which means it's chinup day. Wooohooo!! Although alternating chinups with bicep work is HARD!!! I don't look for my numbers to be high.

Sounds like everyone is busy!!

Joanne, I wish I could tell you what exercises to do. I am just not very good at planning rotations and such. I will tell you Tony does a lot of pushups and heavy upper body work. I think that's what preps for chinups. Perhaps Briee can shed some light.

Happy August, Chins! It's going to be 102 in North Jersey today.

Joanne, I'm thrilled to hear you made some progress. Way to go for sticking with it all these months!

Briee, thanks for the advice. I think you're right about doing lower count negs at home and assisted chins and the Y. Your're also right about how just attempting these will increase my strength, even if I never get there. I'm definitely getting tired of injuring myself though. (Although the injuries have been very minor, but just enough to keep setting me back.)

Catherine, I will do a P90X rotation - just need to wait a few weeks. I need to be careful with those chair assists and find the right balance between assistance and doing too much.

Janie, you're like Miss Mary Sunshine, always cheering everyone on in your sweet way. And you're right how a little goes a long way in this exercise.

Melody, two more days till the beach! Thanks for sharing your adoption story. You are quite a woman.:)

Sooooooooooooosan

I'm there with you on those little set backs, frustrating, isn't it? I miss doing my negatives because I can also tell they greatly help build my strength.

HI Joanne, Briee, Catherine and Janie.

Yep, 2 more days.:)

Hi Gang,

Well I did 60 min. of cardio, and will do yoga tomorrow. I did my chin ups and feel very sore around the neck area. Sounds about like what Melody is experiencing. So, I decided to rest it for awhile. More like a couple of weeks. I did something wrong. Oh well. :-( I'll stay in touch though on this forum and cheer all of you on.

Today I'll do another 60 min. of cardio, and yoga for a lot of needed stretching.:;-)

Soosan, Please try and stay cool in New Jersey, 102 is simply toooo hot! I'm lucky, The Pacific NW has mild weather. I don't envy you at all.

Miss Mary Sunshine, here,:7

Hey, I'm still here!

I feel like such a cheater posting here when not doing chins/negatives. I did MM yesterday and CM tough core premix. Today was KPC and yoga.

I really hope a bit of rest will help this neck. But I'm becoming concerned it's always going to be a thorn with some movements.

Hope everyone is well.

Well, OK, I'll lose the can't-do-my-negatives guilt for now. However, I haven't been eating donuts for a long time either. Should I have admitted that? I wonder if Briee will see this...she can read, can't she? ;-)

NO TODAY WASN'T YOGA X, was it????

I just finished Shoulder's and Arms (I LOVE this workout - it's my all time fav). Man you guys...can I just express how awesome the P90X is. I forget when I haven't done it for a while.

AND I might add, I did much better thru the ab ripper today, unlike Monday which left me *&%$$$%#@$#$ - not happy. I love frogs, but this has all changed......crunchy frog - I hate frogs right now.

Catherine...I subbed S&H Legs for the plyoX day. I don't like plyoX and my intentions were to do 1/2 of IMAX III along with S&H legs, but I didn't get to that. I'm also intending to sub heavy leg sets into Legs and Back day. Weird thing is P90X leg work makes my legs ACHE terribly the next day, but I don't get the results that I get from heavy weights. Right now my legs NEED results.....badly! Thanks for getting me back into the swing of things Cath.

I want to share that I just looked up my record/sheets and I began the P90X back in May of 2004. I looked at pull/chin up days and when I began I primarily did ALL chair assists. Then a few weeks later I noticed that I could do 1-2 and it quickly went to 3-4 after that. I didn't go much above 5 (sometimes 6 on a good day) even a year later. So YOU GUYS are the reason I've pushed beyond this level - and remember when I began I could hardly do 1. Be encouraged!!!

Melody - HAVE A GREAT TIME AT THE BEACH!! (I love your little picture - but doesn't that bother you a tad). I almost missed your post regarding your boys - thanks for sharing. I LOVED reading about your history.

Briee

Hey Catherine, Briee

Get your "yoga stuff" together.;-)

Still not chinning.:p But working out hard including abs AND yoga.

Changed my "beach smiley of the day", Briee.;-)

Good day to each of you.:)

Melody's smiley guys is surfing. I want to go with you Mel!

Briee (I can't bring myself to comment on YogaX quite yet).

Joanne...just emailed you. Life is interesting. For all you chinners who are dying to know...Joanne and I may have run into each others years ago - kind of amazing. I think I still hated yoga back then too. (Sooooooooooooosan....:p :p :p ).

Since yoga is on my mind, here's a rundown. I did Yoga X in it's entirety this morning. Yes I did - I'm NOT LYING. As I was going through the warrior one, two, twenty-seven, etc., I was thinking "this has to end soon" and I happened to glance up from my pathetic pretzel position and there was still 56 minutes left. This is the one workout where a counter should not have been present. "I'VE ONLY DONE 30 FLIPPIN MINUTES OF THIS AND I'M GOING TO DIE" Also thinking "How can Soosan do this - she must be entirely made up of slow twitch muscle fibers and way more then is humanly possible. This is worse than I remembered". But, then that part ended and I actually enjoyed the rest. And when I finished I remembered why I enjoyed doing this in the very distant past. Because when it ends....I feel completely and thoroughly worked out and calm!!!! I knew there must have been a reason, but somehow that faded from my memory through the years. Whew Yoga day is done and I survived.

Briee (I salute you Soosan - you go girl - that is far harder than any pullup!!!!)
