chin up check-in 07/26

Hey Melody! You and I must have started a new thread at the same time. When are you going to the beach?

Hello ladies!! It's recovery week for me on my rotation. But I did a set today. I did 4 plus almost another- lacked about 6 inches to get my chin over the bar!! It's coming!! I just finished KPC (did that in place of KenpoX) Man I could really feel my core engaging today. Must be Ab RipperX!! Yes I have been doing it, but only twice a week instead of three.

Melody, where did you get your weighted gloves? Thinking about getting some!!!

Soooooooooooosan, tonight tell yourself "light as a feather". And when ever you think about it close your eyes and visualize yourself chinning all the way up!! Then when you make your attempt tomorrow you will!! Now if you get up so far and hit a sticking point take a deep breath and pull up more!! You are soooooo there and I feel it!!

Hey, where's Briee? Gone camping again??

Hi Sooooosan (not enough O's:p ) and Catherine

Sooosan, I leave for the beach 08/04. Wanna come?

Catherine I have 1# gloves that I bought at Target for about $15. They are one size fits all and they wrap with a velcro closure. My hands are very small but they still work OK for me. I really liked using them. It seemed I had better form with them, probably because I was aware of the weight and concentrated a bit more. The weight is very light, but I don't think I'd want to use more and risk screwing up my shoulders, wrists or elbows. BTW, GO CATHERINE GO CATHERINE...YOU CAN DO IT...6 MORE INCHES!!!

I have to stop the chins again, the neck is a bit tentative and I certainly don't want to hurt it before leaving next week. I will be working back and biceps tonight. I thinks I'll do the inverted rows and lat pulldowns in place of the negatives. Oh well.

Take care all.:)

I wanna come to the beach!!!! Thanks for the info on the weighted gloves. I think it's time I got some. By all means be careful with your neck. When I do chins I feel it all over LOL. So I can see where it would be easy to cause neck trouble. As a matter of fact after I did my very 1st chin I strained my neck and had to go see a chiropracter!!

have a warm fuzzy evening!! (whatever the heck that means lol)

Catherine, Briee, Melody, Susooon,

I bet if you offer donuts to Briee, she will join in on these posts.

Catherine, be careful of your neck. Do concentrate and get up there girl, you can do it. You are so close.

Melody, Gloves sounds interresting, please keep us posted on that.

Sooosun, you still impress me with all the work you do. WOW!

Tomorrow is my chinny day along with cardio.

Today was tooooo busy for me for I was with my wonderful son. Made him homemade meal. Meatless tacos, with hand made flour tortillas, and homemade sourdough bread for tommorow. He is leaving to help in the ER room in Oregon. This son is in internship stage of life, and has another year. So I have to spoil the guy when I can. He deserves it. Can you tell I'm proud?

Take care everyone, talk to you later.

Janie

Good morning! My two attempts from a dead hang this morning were laughable (and I tried what you told me to do before bed and this morning, Catherine! I even just finished reading The Secret Garden to my daughter so was in the right frame of mind to embrace positive thinking.) That's what's so frustrating about these. You keep moving backward before you take minute steps forward.x( I then did 5 reps of 10-ct negatives and dared not attempt more because my muscles were extremely fatigued. I'm about to do 80 min of PY4H and then on to work and swim team with the kids.

Melody, I'd love to meet you at the beach. I think we should all follow each other around when we go on vacation.:p

Catherine, you're almost there!!! Your progress has been unbelievable! I'm definitely going to start a P90X rotation in September. If I can make even 1/5 the progress you've made, I'll be ecstatic!

Janie, what a lovely thing to do for your son. I'm sure he appreciated it. Cooking for others can be quite a joy! How old is he?

Joanne, are you surviving your houseguests?:)

Briee, if you're lurking, here's a big hello and the hope you're feeling a lot better.:)

Morning!

You ladies are all amazing.

Janie, spoil your DS rotten every chance you get. I have one grown DS and I don't see him very often, but when I do, I spoil him.

Sooosan, love that follow each other on vacations idea. We could even do chins together AND eat donuts together.

Catherine, will P90X really do something for me even though I stink with pushups and can't do any pullups or chinups? I just seem to have a hard time believing I can stick with P90X, and I guess I'm a bit afraid about my neck and trying all the assisted or negatives. What to do, what to do?

Joanne, I'm thinking about you, the wedding, and your houseguests. Remember, it won't last forever (although it may seem so).

Briee, here girl, here's a donut, fetch...}( :p ;-) :+

Hey ladies!! I am taking an unplanned rest day. Will be making it up tomorrow though. Will do CS and yoga. Just exhausted today. Lots of CRAP going on at work. Doesn't involve me, but sure wears me out listening to it!!

Sooooooooooosan, if you think about it, I have big ups and downs with my numbers. And often after a "bad" chin day I come back stronger.

Meldoy, yes I do think P90X will help you. I totally sucked and chinups before I started. The first rotation I did without the chinup bar and subbed other exercises. It is a bit challenging sticking to it for 90 days. But man, I love the results. Oh and you don't have to be great at pushups either. Just do what you can. I do think you should let your neck settle down before you try a rotation though. Is your DH doing a rotation?

Joanne, good luck with your busy weekend. And don't forget to have fun!!

Catherine,

DH is in the middle of P90X. I'm going to have to spend some time getting in the right frame of mind for a rotation. Maybe this fall.
And I understand about those unplanned rest days, I'm chaning mine from Sunday to tomorrow. I just feel beat. I will be doing yoga tomorrow.:)

I'm looking for the smiley guys with paws in the air panting for a donut.

Just for the record....I DID POST ON THE OTHER THREAD and wondered why I didn't get any response and then when I checked IT JUST WASN'T THERE. Don't know where it went and can't remember much of what I said. Oh I do remember asking how sweet Janie went from sweet down to hell in one swift post :7 :7 :7 . And I think we may have to boot Melody out for going to DD without actually eating a donut....that's too much for me. But Mel...I haven't had a donut in days. I'm back to lo carbing and until I get rid of this bloated stomach, I'm eating air. Really weird. I don't know if it's hormonal changes or what. I know I'm supposed to get my cycle in a day so maybe it's just that, but I haven't been like this since......pregnancy (oh my now that's quite the thought).

For those of you contemplating the P90X....there is nothing like it to produce strength gains. It's the BEST rotation out there bar none. I have been working out everyday this week (yes only TS's, but hey I'm working out!!), so I intend to start the P90X on Monday. My changes include adding a Cathe Leg day, doing Cathe core work instead of the Ab ripper sometimes, and doing Cathe kickbox in place of the Kenpo X. I really just use the strength workouts and sub in all else. I need to get back to these. Oh yes Yoga...hmmmmmm, I'll get back to you on that one.

Catherine...wait a go on your chins!!!! I did 7 the other day and I was tired!! I've lost it in the last few days. What happened to 12?????? That was just a dream in the past!!!!

Briee

Brieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I miss you when you're not here. Sorry about the donuts, I'll eat double next time. But I'm trying to keep the tummy flat, going to the beach in ONE WEEK!!

Pregnancy????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????

Hey Melody... I have a question for you. I happened to see the "teen" terror thread on the open forum, but didn't post. Didn't want to depress them. My question is...you home school your 3 boys correct? Did you homeschool your first son and do you anticipate these problems with your 3 ds's. I ask because I have numerous homeschool families that we are in contact with and they just don't have these problems with their teens. Right now I have a teenage son, 16, who is extremely popular with friends, self confident, MAJOR ACTIVE, (he could drive me crazy with his energy at times), but he is just a blast. He loves to be with family, he wants his parents around when he's with his friends. He's sweet, respectful, I don't what I'd do without him. And I'd have to add that the other families I know have the same type of relationship with their teens. I guess I'd like to encourage you that things DON'T have to be negative when you reach teen years. I think you may be surprised to find out that they can be your best friends, but much of that has to do with attitudes formed from being with friends all day vs being with parents who are friends all day. Your boys look just precious in your pictures and I can't wait to hear about the fun around your home when they are teens!! We'll still be here doin chins right?

Briee

Briee, glad to hear from ya! Sorry to hear about your "bloat" I will be glad to have a P90X buddy- yippee. You are right it is the best routine for overall strength gains. I have been meaning to sub Cathe legs, but haven't yet. I do sub KPC for KenpoX sometimes depending on my mood. Haven't subbed AbRipper X, heck I just skip it when I don't wanna do it LOL (don't tell Melody) Actually I feel like twice a week is good and that's what I am averaging with abs. It is a tough rotation for anyone contemplating and takes a mental mindset. But I also just tell myself just do what you can when I am tired instead of "Bring It". Cause otherwise I might skip out on more workouts than I should!! I use my pause button alot!!

Catherine

I use the pause button a LOT too. Pick up a copy of muscle and fitness and you realize that a minute between heavy sets is FINE!

Thanks for getting me motivated to start this. I've severly lacked motivation. I did a preg test last night and it was negative so I think it may just be hormonal changes and pre cycle fullness.

Maybe we can rope Melody into this?? You can do pushups from your knees Melody and modify all kinds of things (but within weeks you won't be!!)

Briee (I don't know if I'm ready for this either Mel - but don't tell Catherine)

I forgot to add Catherine, I bought weighted gloves from Title Box. They have several different pairs. Mine were said to be 1.5#, but they weigh in around #2 when I use a baby scale which shows ounces. To be honest, I LOVE the style, but they can almost be too heavy. SO, I'm planning on ordering a 1# pair in this style. They velcro around my hands in two places and therefore fit very well. I have very small hands too Mel, I use Trex kid gloves (for biking) instead of "ladies small" as they are too big.

Briee

I heard that someone skips ab work????!?!!!???!!?

Briee,

I did not homeschool my now 25 yo because I was a young dumb mother who had no idea the option was available. He is an artist and very intelligent, but not very motivated. From 6th grade up he attended a fine arts magnet school where high grades and artistic talent were required. Let me say, I would not have sent him there if I knew then what I know now. He and I agree that his teen years would have been completely different if he had been homeschooled. He is now a fine young man and I adore his company.

As for my younger 3, I expect the teen years to be quite a different experience. We will have our challenges as one DS deals bipolar disorder, one with CP and high-functioning autism, and the one in the middle deals with the other 2. My DSs are as loving, sweet, well-mannered and fun as they appear.

Yes, I'll still be here ATTEMPTING chins when they are teens. (Yeah, I realize that is not a positive chinning attitude)

Today I have errands and yoga and I'm starting it all too late. (This PMS is kicking my butt and makes me feel like kicking everyone's butt. The guys are urging me to get out of the house NOW!)

Good Friday to all!

PS We leave for the beach Friday next week...7 more days...will I make it?
