RE: ::: CHEETAHS ::: Wednesday (really this time!) *lol...

Afternoon, cheetahs— :)

I just woke up from a deep nap and still need to work out, but I’m working on shakin’ off a bit of grogginess here first.

Carole :: Lucky Number Slevin is also with Josh Hartnett, Bruce Willis, Ben Kingsley, Stanely Tucci, and Lucy Liu. It did capture my interest, but it's pretty violent…No, I have searched high and low, and no KM in sight. Problem is, I cannot remember if I loaned it…I am thinking rather than replace it, I might wait and see what’s up with the Workout Blender…I’m not sure when the surgery will be, but my consult appointment isn’t until mid-September. Earliest I could get. I will even have to take a personal day for it; this doc didn’t have much availability…I’m glad that the fires aren’t moving closer to you, but it’s not good to hear things have kicked up some…You made me smile not noticing the day was wrong yesterday. I keep having to knock out of my head the idea that it’s Thursday. :p

Lorie :: Interesting thoughts comparing iTrains to the CCs. Why do you think that is? I am new to CC and have only done two Grace workouts. Most of the ones I have done are with Keith… Oh, that’s right about the AIC. An old friend and her SO are in Aruba now (they’ve gone probably half a dozen times now), and I must have had the two of you mixed up. (Par for the course these days! :7)…I started having double vision in 2002. Never really learned why. I guess it’s not as common in adults. Luckily for me, it is not obvious to others. Sometimes when people lose control of an eyeball, it starts to look unattractive. I'm also fortunate in that it's not like I see double 100% of the time, but with certain activities--like driving--the increase of it happening is cause for concern…*lol* about your Brazilian attempt.

Jackie :: I do geek out over stamps also…Ha ha, I’m glad others didn’t realize my gaffe…I’m surprised the USPS didn’t have dental or vision before. Honestly, I was a little scared about the LASIK, too. I know several people who had it and were fine and they had me convinced, but I definitely was apprehensive. I don’t really want to be conscious for something like that. I know in LASIK they cut the cornea and flip it, so you can’t see anything, but something about the whole procedure of foolin’ with the eyeball using lasers or scalpels screams FREAKOUT to me…I once had a tiny metal fragment embedded in my eye, and the doc had to retrieve it with what looked like miniature tweezers. So there I was, with my eyeball open wide and he’s comin’ straight at me with a tool. WHA? That's not natural!!…I thought I might slide right outta that seat!! *lol* I am generally good with needles and other procedures, but the eye…uh, yeah, I’m a squeamish, little wussy bear…Even when he inserts contact lenses at the annual exam, I get jumpy. Just don’t want others near my eye. Apparently, most people are awake for this type of surgery, too. But GA is an option if I want it. I think I do…If you can resist a $3 running top, I bow down to you. Now that’s restraint! How did today go with your appetite?

Christine :: yes, the surgery will be covered by the insurance. I might have a small co-pay…Did you enjoy some pool time?...I have missed the bells, too, during my little break from them. Might have discovered the happy medium by doing them once a week…That sounds like a great trip for DD15. Is this the first time she’ll have been away from home for that long?

Gloria :: ACK! I'm so sorry! I typed up my previous personals in a Word document and *definitely* wrote back to you, but I must have truncated the message when I cut & pasted. Apologies!...Let me try again! I still remember what I said basically...Re: the classroom tech issues. Oh yeah, it's much easier to ask a kid than to put in a work order. :)...You are right--we're lucky to be insured. I went without it for one stressful year and had to have some emergency dental work. That was not fun, but thank God nothing more serious happened...I would have liked to have the surgery before school, but the consult isn't til mid-September. My doc thought I should do it on one of our breaks from school. He said recovery shouldn't be bad, but the eyes might be bloody for a few days. (!) Now THAT could scare the bejesus outta some middle schoolers. *lol*...I hear you on needing variety...Glad that your car just needed some coolant. Love when it's a simple fix.

ETA: I talked to my dad and he seems to think both eyes wouldn't be done at one shot, so maybe that would just be ONE bloody eye. (Blech.) :)

Quick post - I was on the AOS boards, and saw this post from a GUY talking about the kettlenetics (or whatever that crazy 4 pound kettlebell workout is called). It's soo true and so well worded that I thought I would share it with my Cheetahs!

The link to the full thread is here: http://www.artofstrength.com/OnlineForum/tabid/94/forumid/6/postid/5944/view/topic/Default.aspx

It's not the modified movements that are the problem...it's the silly myth that women have to lift tiny little weights and do endless cardio in order to be fit.

Obviously RKC based systems are a modification on Girevoy Sport lifting, but the core principles remain the same...strength, explosive power, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning, coordination, flexibility, etc. I highly doubt you're going to build strength, explosive power, and anaerobic conditioning with kettlebells that are as heavy as a Campbell's soup can.

At Punch gym I've seen women perform feats of strength that most men couldn't do, and there are Crossfit vids of women doing all kinds of stuff with HEAVY weight (135 lb barbell overhead squats come to mind).

In my non-expert view , this type of "training" that is Kettlenettics (or whatever the hell it's called) perpetuates the assinine myth that the second a women picks up a heavy weight she'll immediately look like Dorian Yates or Ronnie Coleman. Women do not need to do endless cardio and endless reps with little or no weight to get in shape! If anything, that type of exercise induces catabolism which ultimately screws up ones metabolism resulting in short term gain at a long term cost.

Check out some of the first MOS newsletters where Anthony's wife swings a VERY heavy kettlebell. Not surprisingly, she doesn't weigh 220 pounds. It's the first vid:

Christine :: I didn't read through the entire thread and hadn't heard of Kettlenetics, but oh, how that You Tube video made me laugh. Ridiculous. That baby bell looks like the right size for Lorie's adorable, little nephew! *lol*

VERY cool how heavy Deb went. But *sigh.* They married? ; :7

Gloria – I just got done marinating steak and mushrooms – I just put them on the kabob sticks for DH to BBQ. That’s dinner tonight! I know what you mean about wanting to eat something, then pulling back because I’m thinking of you! I do that too! How funny! It works though!

Lorie – I think CCPP is tougher than CC8. But I do them on my bike and I climb hills all the time on the bike. They’re both fun. :p Oooh, sorry about not being able to get your wax! That sucks! Never TMI – we’re pretty open here. :p Enjoy your time with the pups!

Cathy – Glad insurance will cover the surgery! I’m going back to circuits with bells once or twice a week. I really need to get my back healed though. Today was a little painful. Oh well – I’m tenacious – or stupid, as the case may be. But I still feel better afterwards, than I do when I don’t workout – go figure. I’m going to take it easy the next few days before the race. :p DD15 has been away longer, but always with family (she spent 3 weeks with my sister and my mom one summer, for example). She’s excited. And I KNOW what you mean about Anthony and being married. My first thought was – DARN!!! He’s so hot! :p And Kettlenetics - don't even get me started. What a STUPID program. So many VF'ers have returned it because it's stupid.

I ended up going for a short dip in the pool – actually a float – it was sooo nice! Then I got out and decided to do a little of Yoga for Happiness – I wanted to see how I did with vinyasas. I did okay. And man, did I enjoy the stretching of the hips. I love that DVD. Have a great evening everyone!
