Hi All!
This is so odd. This is the second time I’ve done the Baron Baptiste’s Long and Lean Yoga – I liked it better this time, actually – it was still tough, but not as darned hard – in fact it’s a really nice workout. But, it’s very upper body intensive, as Susan pointed out. I’m STARVED today. I wasn’t when I woke up, and I’m pretty sure I can control this – I have a really big salad with beans and lots of chucky veggies for lunch which should take care of me – but has anyone else had this happen? What’s odd is that I did make sure I had the right mix of carbs and protein afterwards, so it’s not like I’m skipping anything nutritionally that I need. I ended up eating some peanuts – figure if my body is starved I should feed it something with fat, protein and carbs – and peanuts fit the bill and actually seemed to work…. So I’ll be fine to lunch, but wow – it’s weird. I’m thinking it’s because I’m working my upper body in such different ways that my body is shocked and wants to make sure that if I continue with this yoga stuff it’s properly fueled. It only happens with this particular workout – not my Power Yogas. *shrugs* Oh well, I’ll figure it out eventually.
Shelly – you certainly are a Trooper!! Holy cow! You just ran a marathon, and are already thinking of trying another? I’m so impressed!! Does your foot hurt a lot? What kinds of exercises can you do now while it heals?
Kristi – no, that does not sound weird to me. I understand what you mean about finding the reason behind running – not as a mean of exercise, but as an enjoyment. Sometimes we get so focused on the stats that we forget to run just for the sake of running. Good to find that again, isn’t it?
Carole – Have fun with Leg Blasts! I really enjoy that one! I ended up doing an iTread at the gym. Whether I make it today remains to be seen as I have so many weird things going on at work. But, as I’m already starved, adding something to make me hungrier is probably not a good idea. :+ Hmm, the Garmin tells the temps? I might not download that one – I already have enough excuses as to why I should skip my run, I don’t need another…
LD – I’m not doing P90X, but I put together a rotation that is similar as I like the combinations he does. I’ve since switched up the rotation (like I always do), but I’ve realized that I really like what the yoga has been doing for me, so I’m doing it twice a week – a more rigorous DVD on Thursdays and an easier one of Sundays as a stretch.
Jess – glad to hear you’re enjoying your membership!! Have fun with B&G and I don’t blame you for wanting to stay in when it’s cold and snowy! It’s so hard to leave the nice warm house, isn’t it?
Susan – B&G is very cardio intensive! I love it for that. Glad to hear you’re getting good results! I’m really enjoying the Long and Lean DVD – except for the hunger factor! Thanks for the recommendation! Do you think it will EVER warm up? I’m sooo sick of the cold!
Judy – glad to hear your not as sore! I really enjoy LIC – which surprised me. I never thought I’d like a low impact workout!
Wendy – enjoy your nap! I’m jealous!!
Karen – diversity isn’t an issue?! WTH? I live in a very diverse area and it’s a big issue here. Maybe not as overtly as it once was, but we all have our prejudices and it’s our job to chip away at them. My husband is Asian, too - Indian - so I know what you mean, although he would tell you that he has NEVER experienced prejudism. I've seen him experience it, but he's just too self confident to think of it as such. I would love to sit and chat with the gentleman from the Black Panthers. I love sitting with older folks and hearing their stories. You find out that no one ever really has a boring life – we all have things that happen to us, things we do, and things we make happen that are fascinating. I always think of that line from Jimmy Buffett’s He went to Paris – “Some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic, but I had a good life all the way.” Good for you for standing up for yourself and letting the other lady know you felt she was wrong. And Good for you for listening to the man. I think too many of us feel that older folks are not worth listening to, and that is tragic.
Boy, on that note that sounded very much like a speech (on a soapbox!), I’m going to get back to work! Have fun all!
