Good morning, cheetahs!
Posh—coming back to work after time off is always a bit daunting. So sorry Smokey is ill. Prayers? You got ‘em. Hope you have a good time at the wedding and can take your mind off your worries for a bit.
Wendy—Going with your tried & true shoe seems like a good bet. …this is my 8th BTSN, and it’s never NOT made me nervous. Some of my colleagues who have been doing this way longer say the same is true for them. Just want to make a good impression…We were up in Stanhope, so I don’t think we ever *quite* made it out your way.
Wendi—WOO-HOO on getting a break from riding!...And congrats on DSO moving in! Didn’t know that was happening…*lol* I had a colleague who used to joke with parents, “Don’t believe everything your child says happens at school, and I won’t believe everything he says happens at home.” J Random question, but have you ever considered/been interested in veterinary school?
Carole—Hmmm, OK, I’ll have to do some thinkin’ post-Chicago. I had been *very tentatively* looking at a ski trip for that weekend, but my powder crew looks like it might be outta commish this season with some caring for new babies and others trying for one. Will see. On BTS Night, I met the dad who gave me the hotel/restaurant advice, and we had a great conversation about running and marathons. Wonderful family! He was saying he would alter his diet the week of the marathon by going low-carb, high-protein Monday – Wednesday, and then real high carb Thursday – Saturday. What do you normally do? (Any cheetah input welcome, of course!)
Christine—Impressive that some bike 30 miles (!) to work every day. I could never do it. Besides the fact that I'd look like one hot mess, I’m always schlepping 18 different bags into school. *lol* I'd need a trailer…Initially, my first thought was to try to come out to Napa and cheer on Carole…But as the days inch closer to the marathon, I’m thinking more and more that it’s likely I will do this again. Whether it happens as early as Napa, I don’t know. I'm sure it be a blast out there, whether as a runner or supporter. I do like the idea of traveling to different marathons. J How are the legs today?
Jackie—I’m not a spotlight person at all. This is why I’ve never envisioned myself doing the traditional “dream wedding” thing. I would not like the attention. Or the formality. Always thought I would elope and do something fun. Now it’s just a matter of finding a man. *lol* That does look like a good little combo.
Linda—Congrats that it’ll be a grandson! I was wondering the same as Dallas—is he the first he? The Halo test, according to my doc, is the equivalent of a Pap for boobs and can detect the likelihood of your developing breast cancer…Napa is 3.1.09…Glad Patty is feeling better.
Dallas—Napa is a maybe for me. Initially thought I might go out to cheer on Carole, but in the past number of days, I’ve conceded that I probably will run another mary eventually. Will see if I still feel the same after Chicago! J …I carry pepper spray for protection. You could also get a whistle or alarm and run with your cell phone for added peace of mind.
The Dodge Poetry Festival yesterday was an absolutely perfect day. It's an outdoor (tented) four-day event held at a 19th century historic village. Very scenic and woodsy. And it was just the sort of rainy, damp fall day—the air filled with chimney smoke—that I find especially charming. We listened to readings by Billy Collins, Lucille Clifton, Sharon Olds, Linda Pastan, Naomi Shihab Nye, Joy Harjo, Ted Kooser, Maxine Kumin, and others. We were in our glory. My colleague/friend and I had our picture taken with Billy (!) when he autographed our copies of his most recent collection of poetry. *sigh* He’s just brilliant. HAVE to do this again next year.
In terms of today, I didn’t get home til 10:30 last night and woke up a bit earlier than I would have liked. So on the heels of a very busy week, I foresee a midday nap and then probably an afternoon run. Stomach's a little cranky this morn. Probably the not-so-clean eats I indulged in. Better check the weather.
Enjoy your Saturday!
