Gloria ::
How will you communicate with kids all over the U.S. once a month?
I haven't heard about this aspect of the program. I am waiting to hear from the trip leader for more details. Thanks for the tip about the book! I'll see if I have any luck finding it. So today we have to get to work, huh? :)

Wendy :: I would say, D. Go out for your 15 miler, and if it doesn't feel good, cut it short and revert to plan B. You can also put Body Glide on your toes or areas of your feet that tend to blister.

I plan to head outside for my run (rain or no) as long as the thunder & lightning ceases.
In_Living_Color_Homey_The_Clown_Dont_Play_That-T-link.jpg

It will be 8-10 depending on how the hammy & achilles feel.

Have a great day!

GOOD MORNING!!!

Cathy: We are supposed to get some rain here I think. Yes, work today. I might even jet into the classroom to do some things. Good luck with the run today. Adventure/Survival stories are my favorite genre. You may not like the book, but it is right up my alley. :) Who would think someone like me would love a book about sheep wrangling!

Wendy: I say plan B. That brand of shoe has always appealed to me for looks, but they just don't work for my foot type. How was dancing last night?

I was up rather late. Usually I can sleep on the weekends. I guess my brain is busy since I have a lot to do today. I will probably run again today. I would like to do HSC or DM but I have to buy a new exercise band. Pip chewed mine to pieces.

Have a great Sunday Cheetahs! :)

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy..sounds like an awesome chaperone trip for you next year!! Glad the stomach was better yesterday. I would definitely use the roller for your hammy. For the achilles, try to be diligent about icing a few times a day for 15-20 mins. Backing off the distance for the taper should help these things ease up. I hope you enjoyed that movie, I do need to see it...:)...I would like some of your rain!! Cracked up at your little pic. Did I ever tell you DH has a clown phobia??...:D

Wendy..just make sure you are up to the weekly miles that the 1st week of your marathon training schedule has you running. The training schedule I use is just a confusing one to most except me!! I do not have a goal time yet. I might see what the 1st 4 weeks of training does until I decide...:)..as far as the new shoes, I would stick with A or B.

Dallas...the mary training schedule I follow is from the 1st marathon I did in 1997. It was in a Runners World magazine. I have used it many marathons and just tweaked it a bit. Now I know I am blonde but isn't NJ further from Cali than Chicago? I do hope Napa works out for you...it would be a blast!! I got my pepper spray in one of those little booths inside a mall. I like it has a velcro strip so it wraps around your hand. Good job with LIC yesterday.

Christine...how cool you are getting tickets to the SF/Pats game for DH's B-day! I bet they are pricey! I am with you on the sadness regarding Paul Newman. I just froze yesterday when I finished my workout and they were showing all his famous movies on TV. I knew then he must have passed away...:(.. What a great actor and wonderful person he was.

Gloria...that is so sweet DH really liked the soup, thanks for telling me...:)...I do think I still have some in the freezer from March or so. Good job on the 4.2 mile loop yesterday.

Jackie..I can remember getting out of the car many times after a marathon...my sister and I would end up just laughing as our legs were sore...:D..Good job with the 7.5 miles yesterday. My sister tried the Clif Bloks too and she really liked them.

Linda..I am so sorry about the BAD day yesterday!! A 90 min run is a good one so don't worry about the distance. I have had those kind of comments from my DH too. Then I will over hear him bragging about one of my marathons or some other race. They are nuts!!! Sending {{{HUGS}}} and hoping today is a better day for you!! Tell your family running is what keeps you sane!...:D.

I am planning on a tough 14 mile trail run with my sister and friend. I picked up some cheap trail shoes at Famous Footwear ($45) They are Nike's. I get to use my new Amphipod too! Then after the run some football viewing!

Have a great day...:)

Good morning cheetahs:D It's very overcast and threatening to rain but nothing yet so I'll get out there soon for a short easy 4 mile run :)
Had a nice shopping day yesterday with DH. We had lunch at Panera Bread and I had never been there before (none in Az) it was quite a pleasant surprise.... very yummy! several Vegetarian options which is unusual for a restaurant. Anyway, got back too late to get into painting so that will definitely be on the agenda for today. I did however end up doing 4DS lower body circuit which uses bootcamp... woohooo!

Cathy- Marathons are addictive indeed! You haven't even completed your first and are already thinking about the next one LOL;) There are few better highs IMHO then crossing that finish line. You feel like there is nothing you can't accomplish! WOW about the chaperoning job in England, etc!!! Great opportunity... is it a for sure thing? I'm sure with careful attention/foam rolling your achilles/hamstring issues will be minor or nonexistant. It's hard not to get nervous at this stage over any aches or twinges that come up!

Gloria- Great to see you posting again and that things are returning more or less back to normal for you! Did you have a good run yesterday?
We are indeed finally getting some things accomplished around our new house but actually, compared to in the past we are moving pretty slowly!
I think we are both rather burned out from all the activities so far this year!

Wendy- I know the conventional wisdom is to not race in new shoes, but this is a model you are already comfortable with and you definitely know what size is right for you so I say go for it. Wear some really good socks! I once raced a 10k in shoes I had only worn twice before but they felt so good I did it anyway....no problems! Good luck today on your 15 miler... I'll be going for 16-17 tomorrow. I like your training plan for your Mary in March BTW. I know you want to stay local but you may want to consider at least travelling to Calif. and joining other cheetahs in Napa. I was visiting the website and it would make a Great first mary!!
Nice, gentle and downhill for the most part! I didn't realize that the LBI race didn't start until 1030... I may be able to drag DH out of bed afterall.;)

Carole- LOL about being a bellyflop fan.... ouch! As I told Wendy I visited that Napa marathon website yest. Oh my! What a nice looking course!!!! I am curious too if you have a time goal or just want to finish and have fun. Did you enjoy your Amy KB day? I think you would love Rumble BTW.

Dallas- I didn't realize you weren't training with TNT anymore. I'm in a position where I have to run alone also... no running buddies available I'm afraid. DH always talks about going with my on a bike, but that's all it ever is... talk! ;) Anway, it's pretty easy to get pepper spray.. type it in as a search and you are inundated with options! The Az TNT race is probably PF Changs marathon in Phoenix in Jan. That was my first full mary and a good one (rocknroll) I remember that TNT was a strong presence there... those distinctive purple vests were everywhere!

Christine- I can see what you mean about biking the hills versus running, but I'd still rather run up one anyway;) You do have a point about the downhills tho... you are still workin the legs on the downhill with running. On a bike it's pretty much a total rest:) Sounds like you had a very nice day yesterday. Enjoy the hike with DH and Jimmy? How long did you go for?

Jackie- I'm off til Tuesday when I go in for computer training for an 8 hr day and then I start nites on Wednesday:D Great job on that 7.5 miler yest!!! I'd say you are getting back into good running shape and that HM in Dec should be a breeze for ya!

Linda- AW.... it sure did sound like Pick on Linda day! I'm sorry your family was putting a guilt trip on ya for your running. I like Cathy's advice about telling them to come with you!!! ;) My DH would love it I'm sure if I cut back on the running/workouts, but he knows better then to say so so he keeps his mouth shut! Hey, we're here for the support you need!!!!! You do ALOT for your family I have no doubt and you need this for you:)

I think that about catches me up cheetahpals. Time to get movin..

Good Morning Peeps. :)

So yesterday I did the HSTA upper body only and cardio only premixes back to back. I neglected to do abs-bad girl-but missing 'em once isn't the end of the world. :p

Thanks for the feedback on the long run and the new shoes. Unfortunately it's pretty much still POURING here. It was supposed to clear up starting this morning but that isn't happening....not yet anyway. I am willing to run in rain but LIGHT rain, not a downpour so I guess I need to just wait it out and see if I can get out there a bit later in the day. Thankfully it's not supposed to be HOT today. We are supposed to head up to my MIL's for dinner and to pick Joey up this afternoon but if the weather clears late in the day I will ask DH to go with out me so that I can still get the run done. :)

DH and I went country dancing last night. FUN! We hadn't been dancing in ages. I had a few drinks and we got home late so I'm a bit tired this morning. I normally wouldn't take the chance of going out late and having drinks the night before a planned long run but I threw caution to the wind cause I really wanted to go. We don't get there often enough. I should be fine. If the weather doesn't clear until later then I'll be able to nap before I head out. ;)

Shelly: Too funny-DH and I ate lunch at Panera Bread y'day too! It's only the 2nd time I've been there. What are the odds? LOL So what did you order? I had a turkey pannini. It was DELICIOUS! I am pretty confident that the new shoes shouldn't bother me but you never know. I guess I'll find out! As for the Napa Mary...too funny cause I'll actually be in Vegas that very week on vacation with DH! I'd love to be able to be there to hang out and be a Cheetah Cheering Section if possible but I don't think I'd run it. I just can't commit to traveling for a race like that until I do one and know what I'll be dealing with before, during and after the race. Perhaps I'm being overly cautious and a worry wart but I'd rather be safe then sorry. Would hate to regret something like that!

Carole: Enjoy your tough 14 miler today. You want my rain? You can have it! :) Higdon's first week of his novice plan is around a 15 mile total for the week. Not bad. The plan is composed of 4 days of running, 2 rest days and 1 cross training day. I will probably, atleast to start with, nixx one of the rest days as I don't think it's neccessary for me.

Gloria: Yeah the mizunos are nice looking. I originally picked them out the options I had because they were the lightest shoe and I liked that. This new style I have is a bit heavier then what I've been running in. I hope it doesn't slow me down. LOL I would love to not need any support as I want a pair of Nike Free's!!!!

Cathy: LMBO at the clown in your post. :) So it's not pouring near you? Do you have rain garb? I don't even know what to wear to run in the rain. Even light rain will soak you if you are not wearing proper clothing and are out there long enough. I hope it clears up. Sorry about your ham and achillies aches. I hope they are not a long term problem for you. I'm sure you'll be fine though. What an amazing opportunity to travel with the kids to Europe. What kind of program is it that does this?

Off to get more java...BBS to catch up from yesterday!:)

Good Morning Cheetahs!

Gloria – Believe me, there are times I would rather no being as busy over the weekends. But, I’m used to it. That’s the nice thing about our area – it may have too many people, but there’s a mix of everyone so we have all kinds of restaurants, festivals, etc. Always something to do. :p YES! You should enjoy your day off!

Dallas – I’m so over this election, too. I am counting down as well. Paul Newman had cancer, and I guess it finally got to him. So sad. I can understand that Monday’s must be hard for you! It gets old being away that much.

Jackie – Paul Newman had cancer and he passed away – although you have probably heard by now. The wine tasting and Indian food was fun, but I had too much bloat yesterday. It seems to be mainly gone now, thankfully! Great job on the 7.5 miles yesterday!

Cathy – I am a huge fan of “The Sting”. I love all of the twists and turns. ;) Well, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I get to show you Napa – if not this year, one year. Good job on the 5 miler and enjoy your rainy 10 miler today!

Linda – I’m sooo sorry you had such a rough day! I hope today is much better. It’s so tough when our loved ones don’t understand our passions. They’ll get over it. Running is what will keep you active and young. {{{HUGS}}} ITA with Cathy that if your family wants more time with you, they should run WITH you!

Wendy – I’d strap on the new shoes but run the loops near my house so if they start to rub, I could switch ‘em out. You already know the shoes you have hurt your knee, so why risk those? Hope it clears for you!

Carole – ITA with you about Paul Newman. What a loss for us. Enjoy your 14 mile run! I love my Nike trail shoes! I think I paid about that, too. I got mine at Mervyn’s. :p We’ll be watching football too on the new Sony! It’s nice. :p

Shelly – Oh, I’m a big fan of Panera Bread. I really like their sandwiches and salads. Oh the 4DS LB circuit with BC sounds FUN! The hike with Jimmy was nice. We only went 5 miles – but there’s a nice elevation gain (1200 feet). We were both feeling the Indian food, too. I think the only way I could keep up with you is on a bike!! :p

Good luck to all who are running today! Hope the runs are totally zen! I’m cycling. I’m thinking I’ll do between 50/60 miles today. All rolling hills – no mountain climbing. :p I’m looking forward to it. Then DD15 has her Youth Advisory meeting so I’ll be driving her around today. Everything else is done except for some laundry – but that’s an never-ending task, so I hardly count it. Happy Sunday All!

Slow day here in the den. I'm back to report a change in plan. While I was out running errands this morning, my achilles continued to bother me. I did some foam rolling on the calf, sort of going back and forth mentally on whether I should rest or head out and just see how it feels, cutting the run short, if necessary. But I think I'm going to err on the side of caution w/this one. (I am so paranoid about the achilles!) So instead, I will plug in an EXT session and some yoga, and push the long run to Tuesday. (We're off from school, so I know scheduling won't be an issue.) In addition to icing and foam rolling, I'm going to aim for yoga at least every other day, and no more high heels at school until after Chicago. I'm taking every precaution.

Gloria—I'd forgotten about being off on Tuesday, so I don't need to make it a marathon work session today. I'll split the load in half. Did you wind up going for a run today? How's the workload looking?

Carole—I know a few people with clown phobias. It'd be hard to fear Homey, though. He was one of my favorite characters on the show In Living Color, and he was just plain funny. The only clown that ever scared me was Pennywise in It! Thanks for the icing advice. I will do that. I think possibly the peak in mileage coupled with my fashionable footwear choices since returning to work have probably tightened the calves some & irritated it. I have not had achilles pain for a long time prior. The hamstring thing I did notice on some of my prior long runs, but at the time, it was nothing of significance. Since the 21 miler, both the ham and achilles have been doin' a little squawkin'. I'm hoping I can get it in check...The movie is hilariousI have been dying for it to come out on DVD since I saw it in the theater...Any runner with offbeat humor would appreciate it, I think...How was the 14 miler in the new kicks? I didn't know you got an Amphipod! Which one did you get? Did you like it? (P.S. Dexter starts tonight!)

ShellyGlad you will get to switch to nights this week. After this morning's rain and mild storm, precipitation ceased here, too. Now it's just humid and gray out there. I ate at Panera on Friday. Might have been my second time there. IA, good spot...I wouldn't quite say I'm thinking of THE next one but A next one. Toying with the idea already. Sure, why not? ;) As stated, I'll be reserving final judgment til after make it across the finish in Chicago. :)...I received a welcome letter from the local director of the ambassador program, so yes, I am a part of it. Whether or not I get to travel next summer could depend on how many recruits there are...I sure hope that's the case with both the achilles & hamstring. I know my body well, especially after dealing with AT in the past, and right now the yellow flags are up on both...happy painting today.

Wendynot just any clownHomey the clown! :) Glad you had a fun night out last night...It was raining hard early this morning but stopped. What I wear in the rain (IF I run) depends on the temps. Hat definitely, and if cool, I go with a water-resistant windbreaker. If it's a cold rain or too hard, it just doesn't have any appeal. The program is People to People. Posted about it some yesterday.

ChristineA Napa GTG would be awesome. I really enjoyed the winery tour we did out there. How was the hilly ride today?

Shelly...How nice a restaurant with vegetarian choices!! My last running fall was a belly flop and ouch was the next day when I sneezed! I don't have a goal yet for Napa. I am waiting until my first month of marathon training. I will have more of a feel come January. I do enjoy the 2 kickboxing DVD's of Amy's that I have. Rumble just does not appeal to me.

Wendy...Yes, I do want your rain..we need it! I am sure Higdons plan will be a good one. I agree about nixing one of the rest days, as I feel one is enough.

Christine...I liked "The Sting" too....:)..The trail shoes were very comfy. IA about laundry being a daily task. Enjoy football on the new TV. Hope your long ride goes well.

Cathy...OMG! I loved "In Living Color" those "Guys on the Beach" (or something like that) cracked me up!!! And Jim Carrey as Fire Marshall Bill..:D...you are right as Homey was not scarey at all. I might just buy that movie. Is there more than one Amphipod? I just got the hand held one and it was quite comfy. I would be watching Dexter if I had Showtime.

The 14 miler was not as tough as I remembered. I was glad to have a few 14 milers under my belt before tackling this one. My friend though had a bit of a spill, she slid sideways on a steep hill. Scraped up her left side but she still wanted to run. My sister had not been doing a lot of distance in the last few weeks and she tripped (didn't fall) but it tweaked her back a bit. She will be training also for Napa...:D

Good Afternoon!

Carole: Great run today! Too bad about the spill for your friend and sister. That would be me if I was out there. I am sure you are off enjoying football right now. :)

Shelly: Yes, it was a good run yesterday. That restaurant you went to sounds good! You have had one busy year for sure!

Wendy: I have wanted a pair of Nike Free just for casual wear. I think they are cute. Glad the night out was a hit. Hope you can get in your run today.

Christine: Where you live sounds really nice. I do laundry every day too and it is only DH and I! Sounds like a killer ride today!

Cathy: I think you are playing it smart with the achilles. Nice that you will have Tuesday off! I have made a significant dent in the school work. :)

I wanted to do a longer run today, but due to the many tasks I have to accomplish today I just did my 3 mile loop. It is nice because there isn't much traffic on that one. It is very cool...only in the 50s. We will be getting rain just about every day this coming week. Hope all are having a nice Sunday! :)

Hey there everyone!

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words about my family's disapproval yesterday. DH said he didn't mean it the way it sounded, but....I have my doubts ;)

Cathy - That trip sounds wonderful! That will be great! When is it? I hope you were able to get your run in with no achilles or hamstring problems! I literally am just so excited for you! I wanted to tell you that I went and bought "Fat Man Running" today! DH watched it with me and it was wonderful! We loved it!

Gloria - Good job on your 3 mile loop! We actually got rain, too. Finally! But not much!

Carole - Great job on your 14 miler! Oh dear! Glad nobody was hurt seriously! Sounds like a good run, though! LOL...I hear you on your DH bragging about one of your marathons! I remember when I ran my first 19 miler a couple of months back, my DH was bragging on me to his friend. But then......grrr!! Yep! They are nuts!

Christine - My goodness! 50-60 miles sounds like such a loong way! How long does it take you to do that? When you just ride, (not an event), do you go kind of leisurly, or do you try to go a certain fast speed? I hope you enjoyed! Oooo! The rolling hills sound great! That is just great!

Wendy - I hope the shoes do well for you! I love getting new shoes! :) The country dancing sounds fun!

Shelly - HOpe you enjoyed your run! Yummy! I love Panera Bread! When my younges DD and I go shopping, that is where we usually eat lunch. I like their broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl and turkey artichoke sandwich! Ooos....I know, not vegetarian

Well, this morning I decided to get on the treadmill and do a nice 15 mile, leisurly run. It was misty and I was just feeling like I wanted to do it inside. When I hit 3 miles, Patty called to see if I wanted to go run. she said she is doing much better. I told her to come on up and we would just take off from my house (I would run til she got there). But she didn't think she should do any hills, so she was going to go do the flats. So that was all fine. I had slowed the speed of my treadmill to talk to her. When I sped it back up...it went crazy and started changing speeds like crazy and then went down to zero. I was able to get to 4 mile, but I got mad, got off the treadmill, went outside and ran 6 miles. I though I would come back in, and get on the TM for another 5 miles. I thought surely it would be working. But.....it wasn't. So 10 miles was it for me. Now, I have to try to find out what is wrong with my TM.

Anyway....Patty's back is doing much better and she was able to run 6 miles today. She said she feels pretty much normal.

Hey to everyone!

LInda

Hi Ladies! Back from my adventure!

Cathy – Good call on the achilles. Once that starts nagging, it’s hard to tame. Better to be safe than sorry.

Carole – glad to hear the shoes are a hit! Football on the new TV is nice!! Glad your run was easier than you remembered, but OUCH on your friend! How great of her to continue to run. Glad your sis is training for Napa, too! That will be fun!

Gloria – it’s easy to do laundry daily when you think about it – we have work clothes, relaxing clothes, workout clothes… And when I commute, I sometimes add commuter clothes, too. Amazing how much I wear in a day! Hope the weather clears up – send some of that rain our way – we need it!

Linda – I’m glad DH apologized. He sounds like he’s a good guy. The 60 miles took me a little under 4 hours. I rode pretty fast for me today as I was definitely under a time crunch and wanted to get in all 60 miles. Sorry about the troubles with the treadmill! That sucks!! Glad you got in some running with Patty though, and happy she’s feeling better!

I had a nice ride. Went 60.37 miles with about 1000 foot elevation gain. No hard climbs and I only had to drop into my middle chain ring once. Took my 3 hours and 41 minutes with an average speed of 16.7 – not too bad (especially as it was a hilly ride). I did want to go further, but I had to be back. That's okay, I can go further next week. :p Pretty ride. Got to see all sorts of things, including horses, lots of people and cyclists, dogs, squirrels. Etc. Did LaundryMac when I returned and played chauffer to DD15 (I will be sooo happy when she gets her driver’s license!).
