Cathlete
Morning, cheetahs :)

I'm draggin' a wee bit this AM...indulged in a few Corona Lights and a tequila or two last night...had a good time!...Today at some point it will be an outdoor run (yay!) plus yoga - I think I'll do Yoga Shakti instead of YogaX.

Yesterday was the perfect day to decompress from all the stress of late. In the morning, I finished my last project for this semester of grad school (woohoo! only ONE more class to go!), worked out, had my massage (which rocked!), took a three hour (!) nap, booked a ski trip for St. Pat's weekend (yessss!), and pretty much vegged the entire rest of the day before going out. Sometimes doing nothing is the greatest feeling.

OK, off to read yesterday's posts and catch up with personals.

Greetings Weekend Cheetahs~

There are quite a few posts from yesterday to address~~~

Cathy~~~ What a great Saturday you had including the coronas! How did you rate the massage?

OK BRB--- I need to switch to our lap top and stand at the counter.

Good morning ladies,

Been MIA for the last couple of days. Getting sooooooo busy:)
I have a couple more possible candidates for at home training. Hopefully they will decide it's what they want to do!

today's workout is MM and a spin class at the gym. I haven't done a spin class in awhile, hope i haven't lost my endurance.

welcome jarmamba!!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO MY FELLOW PICES THOMASINA!!!!!!!!

cathy- hope you have a great day today. how was your massage?

judy- what's your workout going to look like today?

Hello to all the cheetahs today;)

Judy :: this was the 2nd time I used this particular massage therapist. (Previously, I was always getting different people, but Carole and Laurie have convinced me to go with the same person.) She is good - she finds knots that I don't even know are there and works them out. She's also STRONG. She did hurt my left bicep at one point.

Carole :: Hang in there - only more one week of running restriction!...The massage was superb - I was in a *complete* fog when it was over. I love that I'm going more often now - I consider it a perfect reward for working out hard.

Susan :: I’m sorry to hear you had some down days this week. Understandable given what you are going through…Did you find out any more about your mom’s situation? How is she doing?

Shelly :: It could be DH is intimidated by all that he sees you doing…he might think he’ll never keep up or have the energy to do all that you do. I would just keep the invites to walk or run casual and let it go if he declines. You might even “accidentally” leave an article or two about the benefits of exercise lying around somewhere. But I think folks have to be mostly self-motivated to make exercise a part of their lives…I think the massage has gotta get bumped to the top of your list!!…I agree—I feel funny doing less cardio, but I’m willing to give it a shot. At first, I thought I would try for 3 runs + either KB or Plyo during Phase 1, but realistically, last week there was just not enough time for everything. So, I'm sticking to Tony's plan but will do whatever else I can.

Gayle :: great job on the 10-miler!

Christine :: good for you that the chest cold isn’t slowin’ you down…the SW Chicken Bowls sound goooood…Hope you had a nice night in…I love travel and exploring new places and cultures and am fascinated by those quite different from our own…so I really enjoyed those stories. Keep ‘em comin’!

Jackie :: thanks ~ I thought the signature line would help keep me in line (I’m in a Biggest Winner competition at school and am trying to lose about 20 lbs.), but lately, I’ve not been making the best of choices on a daily basis…Great job on the 6 miles in the cold…That is the distance I usually run and it takes me about the same amount of time.

Thomasina :: hope you enjoyed your birthday lunch with mom…did you get your sombrero?…You certainly deserve some relaxation time after such a stressful week!! And cake – I think this calls for cake!!…I’m glad that DH is OK and it wasn’t a heart attack…Keep us posted on the additional tests…Perhaps this episode will be a great motivator for him to walk/work out…My father had a heart scare this summer and it did the trick for him. He now walks on a TM every other day and lost about 25 lbs. since September. He’s doing great…And of course, the exercise would definitely help with both the stress and the nicotine withdrawal!…Also sorry to hear about wayward DD…is she planning to move out soon?…Teen rebellion can make for some ugly, ugly times. It sounds as though it’s the kind of situation where no matter what you say or do, this dirtbag BF is a god in her eyes and she’ll follow his lead wherever it takes her…I think what often happens in situations like this is that the parents have to “let go” and let the kid come around eventually. Good luck! It must be so difficult for all of you.

Hey Sunny! I was wondering where you've been ~ we missed ya. The massage ROCKED. I think I am going to have one done when I go skiing later this month. Glad to hear the clients keep rollin' in (hopefully not literally) :) Hope you have a great spin & MM workout!

Oh yeah, Judy, I meant to ask you this :: have you ever skied Windham? I know that is in upstate NY and I am looking at it as a possible smaller-scale trip for next year. Since the lift tickets are less expensive and it is a shorter drive than VT, I thought it might be a good option for my group. Any other recommendations would be most welcome!

Susan~~~ Did your family enjoy Disney on Ice? I hope yesterday was a mood lifer for you. Is there any change in you Mom? I will keep her in my prayers. ( Did I ever tell you my Mom passed when my two oldest were a toddler and infant? We lived in a different city from my parents at the time~~~ it was perhaps one of the hardest times of my life) Susan, my heart feels your pain. Bless you.

Shelly~~~ Thank you for the no metronome advice! I did download a 173BBM piece from djsteveboy, and tried another TM Chi run yesterday. My goal was 30”. At 25” I had hip pain and but stayed on for 32” minutes. I really tried to apply the focuses, but that pain on the TM proved that my hip is not ready to sume running. I was angry with myself yesterday for running. (On a positive note, I have the music ready on my IPOD, and it did aid in keeping my cadence steady)

Christine~~~ how are you feeling today? Did you say Italian New Yorkers? How funny! My family is Italian American, but we are from ( small) Rochester, NY. However, Rochester, has a huge Italian American Community. My DH was born in Havana, Cuba and his family escaped Fidel Castro when he was an infant. There are more similarities than differences between our two heritages. But the food is very different

Kristi~~~ Did your DS just adore DOI? And is that sweet DD on the mend yet?

Jackie~~~ You are a Cheetah already! I have only done one 5k also. Of course now I am on the “do not run list” temporarily anyway. How old are your Grandkids?

Thomassina~~~ Oh Dear, I am sorry about the choices your DD is making. I pray that these are temporary rebellious teen age years, and that she will wise up sooner rather than later. Just remember, many good people had nasty teenage years. ((( hugs)))

As mentioned above I did a not so pleasant TM jog y’day, but the stretch and Core max later were successful. Today after Church and a few chores and dinner prep, I will do Low Max. It has been a very long time since I did it. I will wear a HRM to see how I fair. By the way wearing the HRM for KPC/CK mish mosh the other day showed me that I really got pumping ! (my hip pain for kickboxing is very mild, go figure) I’m thinking this is either a piriformis or ITB (up higher) issue.

Jes~~~ Did you do kickboxing while recovering???

Judy "Likes2bfit"

If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.

Cathy~~~ I have never been to the resort you mentioned.... Yes DS attends school in Boston (BC)

~~~HI Sunny~~~ I posted my WO in the above post.
Good morning everybody. I'm dragging a bit this morning, too. But it's because my fiance and I decided to crawl out of bed LATE! The kids are behaving and QUIET, so that's always an added plus!
Headed to the kitchen to make them breakfast, but just wanted to post to say HI to everybody. Tell you to all have an excellent Sunday.
When we head back to my house this afternoon, I'll be doing GS bis and tris (and abs I think). Giving the legs a break today.
OH...question. I got to thinking, after using the iTread workouts. Is there a site anywhere that sells a collection of music geared toward running? I don't really have a preference for type of music except hard rock (which I don't really like). And I don't really have the time (rather, don't TAKE the time) to try out different songs online. So I was wondering if you can buy a whole set or collection of songs??? Anybody know if anything like this exists???
Good morning cheetahs
Cathy...Don't feel bad, I had a couple of Ultras!! No tequila though...You got alot done yesterday...the massage sounded good. It is definitely a great reward for working out. I am getting one next monday. Yes, one more week of not running....
Sunny...that is great you are so busy with clients!. Have fun with the spinning and MM.
Judy...I will probably do Lowmax next week. I think I will try for no impact in any workout...might have to take my Nordic track out too...:)
Gayle...enjoy your GS workout.
I'll be doing at least and hour of EXT and then a Stretchmax segment. I have a weird pain that I don't think is piriformis, as it is more on the outside of my left thigh...like I have done to many leglifts??? And I haven't...not sure if the kickboxing yesterday aggaravated it or not...
Have a great day...:)
Good morning all! Hope everyone is having a great Sunday so far!
I had a wonderful 9 mile run yesterday. My speed is improving close to what it was pre injury (seems like it was so long ago)
DH got all ready to go out with me to walk and when we got there he decided he wasn't dressed right and it was too coldx( Ah well!
I did Core Syn yesterday also. I hadn't done this in a while but it wasn't quite as hard as I remembered! Still quite challenging though... especially those plank to chataranga(sp?) runs :eek:
Christine- Your spinervals workout looked impressive! Are you training also for a bike race? I seem to recall you posting something like that. Have you ever considered a duathlon?
Jackie- Glad to see you posting again! It's nice to have another 50something around:7 Actually I'll be celebrating the big 50 soon (later this month) with a 10k!!! (naturally) Hey, there is nothing to feel bad about doing 6 miles in 65 minutes!! Methinks you are a tad too hard on yourself.... especially since it's been a while since you've run outdoors. It is quite a bit different from a TM run. Not to worry though... you're speed will pick up naturally the more you get outside.
Thomasina! Hey there.... having a good 12 miler today? Sorry to hear about your onggoing struggles with DD17. I hope you and your DH aren't beating yourselves up wondering where you went wrong.
Some people are just born bad I'm afraid. My parents raised 5 kids
and did a fine job.... they are fine people, but they lost the "kid lottery" with the last one I'm afraid and she (my little sister)
has made their lives hell. I hope you and your DH have the strength to do what is right and not let her ruin your lives any longer.
Cathy- Glad to hear you had such a restful and yet productive Saturday... I'd say some Coronas would be a great way to end it too:7 But a good run today should take care of those;-) Thank you for your advise Re: getting my DH motivated. I'm sure he does feel intimidated. I can't change my lifestyle though I'm afraid... I never talk about my workouts with him... well I keep hoping!
Hey, are you going on your ski trip with your "usual" ski buddies?
I know you had some problems with one of them.... how did that turn out?
Judy- Sorry to hear about your difficult TM run. How long had it been since you've last run before this? It could take several weeks of abstaining from running to really heal I'm afraid x( But we have wonderful Cathe workouts in the meantime:7 You may want to check out foam rollers in the meantime. I just bought one and tried it... all I can say is WOW!
SunnyD- Nice to hear from you busy cheetah! I hope you are charging more for your at home clients... that's quite a bit more hassle for you. I wouldn't worry about your endurance at all in spin class!! I'd be willing to bet you could outlast the instructor ;-)
Gayle- Try this... www.workoutmusicvideo.com. It's funny you should mention this. I was wondering the same thing the other day and did some searching. I'm sure there are lots of other sites. Glad to hear you had a lazy sleep in morning. Your body obviously needed it.
Carole- Egad you've been having bad luck in the body pain dept lately :eek: From what I understand you can have outer hip/thigh pain also from lower back problems and perhaps the kickboxing did aggravate it some in new ways. Have a good sweatdrenching hour on the EXT!
Jess- THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! (I'm sure you're scratching your head and going "huh?") I had received a gift card for Target and was there yesterday wondering what to buy. I broused the sporting goods/fitness section and came across the foam roller, complete with instructional DVD. I remember how much you've talked about benefitting from it and I've read accounts similar to this on runners forums so I though... Why not try it? Anyway, I gave myself a complete body massage last night... WOW! This simple devise can really get in there :eek: I felt it particularly in my trouble areas. (L hip-- piriformis) and R inner thigh. I think this will end up being the most useful piece of fitness equipment I've ever bought. And that is saying something! Anyway, I hope you check in today and read this. Thank you again!
Okay, time to get busy. I have a 4 mile run on tap today and then
B&G leg blast.... wooohooo :7
ShellyC
Carole~~~I hope ctretch max helps!
I'm off to the grocery store. The grandparents are coming for lunch instead of dinner, so the boys can go skiing after they leave.
Good morning everyone!
Rest day for me and I'm enjoying it.
Thomasina - Did you get that treadmill fixed? Wow! You did have a crazy week. Hope this week is better for you. I used iTread outdoors for my run yesterday. Of course, I didn't keep up with Grace because that woman is crazy.
Christine - Good job on the Spinervals. How's the chest today? I like spinning but don't get to do it now but once in a blue moon since I dropped my gym membership.
Carole - I have never tried that KPC/L&G premix. Thought it was too long and would kill me. HA! Maybe hearing someone else doing it might encourage me to give it a try. Hope the pain goes away.
Cathy - Your day yesterday sounds like heaven. So relaxing! Good luck with your competion at school.
Sunny - Thanks for the welcome.
Judy - Sorry to hear about your hip problems. I have some hip pain every now and then but I don't think it necessarily comes from running. Grandkids are 12 & 3. Enjoy Low Max!
Gayle - Have you checked out www.jogtunes.com? I hope I have that name correct. Checked out the website once. Thinks it gives music with bpm. Didn't download anything though.
Shelley - Great job on the 9 miles! Hello to another soon to be 50 year old. What a way to celebrate too. Love Core Syn. Haven't done it in awhile though.
Went to see Zodiac last night with SO. I give it a 3. Thought it was a little long. Even got tired of eating the popcorn because it had too much butter. I asked for it too.
Jackie
judy- gotcha. have fun with your grandparents!
cathy- glad i was missed:) . when is the date for the biggest winner revealed? good luck!!
gayle- check out www.djsteveboy.com/mixes.html
carole- oh nooooooooo, not another pain, i hope it goes away quickly. have fun with your EXT workout today:)
shelly- congrats on increasing your running speed!!! (scatches head in amazement);) . clients are keeping me busy as well as just life. my older ds just started flag football yesterday, so there goes another two hrs...lol
ttyl...:)
Judy :: wow ~ how did your DH manage to escape Cuba? I would love to hear more about that…What kind of HR reading did you get for LM?
Gayle :: I don’t know of an existing compilation that’s geared just for running…but I know there are some decent CDs out there for general cardio…If you run a search on amazon, quite a few turn up. Usually, I just make my own playlists and change ‘em up from time to time. Or I let my iPod shuffle it up and surprise me.
Carole :: ut oh…maybe some heat will help the leg pain? Hope so!
Shelly :: I actually might opt for Kenpo instead of the run…I’m paying the price for last night’s tequila, for sure, and am afraid the jostling around could spell disaster…Yes, I am going skiing with just my best friend – the guys can’t make it. Things are patched up…it’s just taking some adjusting (on my part) to the fact that she wants to spend every waking second with the BF…whether it’s a phase or not, who knows…Thanks for asking. Hmm, another vote for the foam roller…I may have to investigate that one! :)
Jackie :: thanks for the link to jogtunes…will check that out.
Sunny :: the B.W. competition actually runs until Sept. 07. They want to see how well we keep off the weight over the summer. For now, we have monthly weigh-ins and the winning team doesn’t have to pay for next month’s “registration,” which is $10. The monthly individual winner just gets braggin’ rights.
As if P90, a Fluidity Bar, and a ski getaway weren't enough, I just ordered a Garmin GPS navigational system for my car. ALL of the indulging (spending AND eating) must stop over here!!!!!! Somebody confiscate my credit card and checkbook.
OK, I need to go veg some more before I can summon up the will to work out. Hope you're all enjoying your Sunday. It's quiet around here today.
~Cathy :)
Shelly...glad you enjoyed your run and Core Syn. Yes...pain is no fun. I have not had this one before but I am sure it stems from the low back. Honestly the only time its bad is if I sit for awhile and when I first get up YEOW!!! Then it seems to warm up. Enjoy your 4 miles and B&G Blast today! Also, I might have to go to target and look for that roller.
Judy...thanks, Stretchmax did feel good. And so far now I am feeling fine.
Jackie...enjoy your deserved rest day. That premix is the longest one I think. I have done it a few times...
Sunny...I had a very nice EXT workout...:)
Cathy...I usually ice most injuries. I've done that for years. But I do have this sports creme from New Zealand...talk about hot!!! Enjoy Kenpo or whatever you decide...:)
I did 80 min on the EXT. I even feel I could have gone longer but didn't think stressing anything else would be good! The stretch was nice and it is another beautiful day here...:)
Ooh, I'm glad I checked in!! Yeah, I'm glad that you found the foam roller AND that it's helping!!! I know, I've gushed about it here but it really has helped a lot!! It really does hit those hard to massage spots well!! I'm glad that your speed is coming back. I'm feeling that way too, had a good 4 mile run on the TM on Friday. Hope you enjoyed your 4 miler & B & G!! I love that workout!!
Judy ~ Sorry about the hip. Yes, I did do kickboxing while recovering. I never felt any IT band pain while kickboxing, it actually felt great! Kickbox & step never bothered me at all, it was as soon as I would start running (from about a mile) it would start that twinge & by 3 miles pain. Do you have a foam roller?? See my post to ShellyC, but it does help. It's great for the hips & IT band. Very painful at first, but it will get easier as your hips loosen. Now I can do it w/ NO pain. Anyway, sorry about the bummer run, I remember having plenty of them. It finally just took me taking a total rest from running to heal it up. Good luck & hope it's a shorter recovery than what I had!
Resting Cheetah checkin' in! I need a rest day today, just felt tired & worn out! I didn't sleep well at all Fri night for some reason & feel like I'm still catching up. And Kiersten was up, because yes she has ANOTHER EAR INFECTION!! Poor girl, her ear has been oozing some yucky stuff! We went to the Dr. in the morning & she's on another round of antibiotics, more expensive ear drops (thankfully they gave me a sample again!), and Flonase. I thought her tube coming out would help, but I guess not. So we will be making another appt at the ENT & see what they want to do for her. I think this makes 4 ear infections since Thanksgiving????
Anyway, I went to the Y y'day morning & did 25 min on the elliptical & 30 min TM power/ incline walk. I am trying not to run on consecutive days even though I really wanted to!! I enjoyed my 4 miles on Friday. So I was a good girl. :) Then took care of my sickie girl and got a few things done y'day. Then we went ice skating last night, Greg's work had rented out the rink so it was fun. I wasn't sure if Kiersten would be up for it, but after a nap she was feeling better. It was fun & good exercise!! Although my feet hurt this morning, hope it didn't give me a bit of PF.
Well, just wanted to check in w/ my Cheetahs & saw a post from ShellyC, so I figured I'd post a quick update! Hope you're all enjoying your Sunday!
Hi everyone, it is your long lost Cheetah friend fitkansaschick. I have decided to give up another forum and try my best to just come here. After all, I only do Cathe and run.
I have a 10K in April and another one in May. Most likely I will be doing a 1/2 in September.
I am planning on attending Cathe's road trip if...................
I get to my goal weight of 119-122ish. I don't want to say how much I currently weigh as I am not happy!
she holds it on a July weekend
I am BFL eating and alternating Cathe with running. I am calling my program "operation roadtrip"
Welcome back FitKansasChick . Good luck reaching your goals, but we'd love to see you at the road trip no matter what!
Jes- & Shelly- I'm listening to you ladies!!! I already wrote in my log no running next week. ( in big letters) I tried TM runs on Monday (6 miles) and Friday (32" ) last week. I will get a foam roller based on your recommendations.
I changed my mind and did not do LM. I just completed 6 consecutive days and two painful ones so I did L&G floor work only and the stretch segment twice.
I will do LM, EXT and LIC this week and perhaps KPC/CK mish mosh later in the week.
