:::CHEETAHS:::Stormin' Sunday

Good Grief. If I had didnt' have bad luck I would have no luck. Dh and I are trying to clean the stuff for the ocean and the kids are in the pool. All of a sudden the clouds grow dark and the thunder comes in and all I can think about is this stinking tree which is hanging on for dear life.. So I grab all the stuff and batton down the hatches and the rain just pours and pours. Penny sized hail, lightening up the ying yang and sheets of rain. This goes on for 30 min. Dh and I are just waiting for the tree to fall but it never did. Thank Goodness. My sister who lives like 15 min from us lost power and they still don't have it 3 hours later. It is probably because all the electricity is going from my TREE into the gound.:) You would think we would get some nice cool air but NO it's as humid as ever. To top it off all my tomatoe plants fell over. I'm out there just now trying to drive stakes into the ground to save the poor things. I feel over the fence I have around the garden and got mud all over myself. I couldn't do anyting but laugh.

Dallas- Sorry about your dh. I really really know how it feels to have no control over anything. As much as need I'm here for you too.

Posh- So sorry about the dentist. Poor guy. It sounds like it's been that kind of month for all of us.

Wendi- As for the tree it's still there. Dh said if they don't come out by tomorrow he'll call again. It amazed me why they would rather clean up power lines instead of coming out and just cutting the tree before the inevitable happens.

Hi Cheetahs!

Carole – Wharf to Wharf is definitely a fun race. It’s not really timed, and it’s just a good, goofy run with all of the bands and other entertainment. You should come down and do it with us next year – you can stay at my place. :p It was so funny about DS moving so close. It is crazy with housing. Hope it settles soon!

Cathy – DD15 did not run – see below. But DH and I had fun. If you don’t go off the straight and narrow from time to time, you’ll go nuts. I did a bit with the CAB’s today. 6 miles in not an excuse for drinking 3 beers! :p

Shelly – Good job on the run today! Glad you were able to have the evening to yourself! Yeah, PA is my home state. I was born and raised in Lancaster. I miss the rolling hills. Makes for some great cycling! :p

Lorie – Oh man, meetings like that are so deadly! I’m sorry! Glad you had a good time afterwards. Sorry you go back so freaking early! That is stupid. Makes no sense. At least you get out early enough to enjoy the nice spring!

Karen – Too funny about your kids! My DD isn’t a big fan of running, but this was something we talked about when she broke up with her boyfriend. They’ve gotten back together since and she’s not as interesting, but she did train. She likes cycling more – kind of like her mom. :p Glad the storm did not take out your tree!

Dallas – I cannot even imagine the stress you’re carrying! Wow! I’ll definitely keep DH in my prayers. How tough for you! Unfortunately, DD15 couldn’t run, but DH and I had a good time.

Carole – enjoy your afternoon. Sorry DH is being a jerk. That’s never fun!!

Posh – Yeah, I’m eating better food choices, too, except for the beer today! :p The Wharf to Wharf is a good time. You should come down with Carole next year and run it with me. Can’t set any PR’s as there are too many people, but it’s fun!

Wendi – Oh, I’m glad you got a break! And you’ll get in a good long run tomorrow? Even better!!! I’m happy about Kimo. DH swears it’s the fact that I cook her food. :p

Okay – so here’s the race report. First, DD15 found out yesterday that she has to test for her purple belt tomorrow. She spoke to her teacher and he recommended that she not run today in order to have enough energy. They test the kids hard – it’s a full hour test and goes though everything. As TKD is her sport, I could not say anything. She was seriously bummed, but at least she’s learning about making sacrifices for what she wants.

So DH and I headed down solo. There is a reason for the bumper stickers, “Keep Santa Cruz Weird”. Santa Cruz is kind of Seedy beach town meets Berkeley. It’s where the hippy movement started, and there are still many aging hippies around. I think the vegetarian restaurants out number the non-veg, and bikes are everywhere – not the hi-tech ones like I have but the old beach cruisers. But it is a beach town and kind of seedy at that. Very odd place. But fun. We lined up at the start, all 15,000 of us, and watched (or moved along, which ever floated everyone’s boat) to a high energy warm up. Then we had a bugler bugle the horse race ditty, and the founder of the race shot the starting pistol and off we went toward Capitola which is a town straight out of a Jimmy Buffet song. It’s 6 miles of rolling hills along the beach. And yes, there were 52 entertainments – mostly bands along the course. 2 bagpipe bands, high school cheerleaders, high school bands, rock bands, Japanese drums, flutaphones (remember those?!), and one guy who looked like he was dressed head to toe in bad Christmas paper, complete with a pair of wings, a pointy hat and an accordion. No, he wasn’t the weirdest – that honor goes to the guy in a cow costume – yes, cow, with a sombrero singing about moo’ing. That was plain weird. We ran past beaches, yacht clubs, and many people. People lined the course from start to finish cheering us on. The finish is down hill – YAY! So we sprinted it. Definitely, as I said before, not a fast course. Too many people, too many stragglers, etc, but man is it a good time. A little more sane than Bay to Breakers, but with the wacko Bay Area attitude. I do so love this area!

Have a great night all!

I can not do personals at the moment. I just had to take care of my BF who is sending her son off to the military tomorrow (Air Force). He is small, shorter than me and just as sensitive. He willl be fine. No workout today, just wanted to say hi. DH and I are very concerned about him and I can't stop crying. I just hope he will be okay. Sorry for the self centered post, but hontestly, that is all I have in me at this point.
