Carole ::: whoops! Somehow I missed your post yesterday. I hit send as the bell rang...my prep period was ending & I was getting scattered at that point – I just can’t post from school. I agree, George *is* crazy – and totally hilarious. I do like the HRM…I have used it during my workouts this week and am very curious to see what kind of numbers I get on today’s outdoor run. I plan to order the Edwards book this weekend.
Barb ::: *lol* about the mallet. I see that thing is getting good use being shared among the cheetahs again.
Hope you were able to work out your schedule and glad you bounced back from that yucky bug so quickly! I had to laugh about the comment that “colored notebooks, highlighters, labels + more = Fun studying times.” I *love* office supplies – I’m weird like that! – and you made me want to stock up on some fresh supplies.
Good luck to the kids at their swim meets!
Christine ::: I received an email about the transaction, so I’m sure it went through! Thanks! Hope the break from cardio helped the groin situation….K’boxing followed by yoga sounds like an ideal plan.
Karen ::: enjoy your rest day today! I do know what you mean about the week getting away from you. Hope the DOMS in the calves is gone.
Laura ::: there’s something faulty with anything that would recommend dipping below 1200. I don’t know if there’s a site which calculates it differently for you (I’d like to find that myself so I will do some googling later), but in
BFFM, the recommendation is to reduce your calories by 15-20% of your maintenance level. Since you are already at a high level of activity, you might reduce by 25-30%, if necessary. Glad you are making progress…It’s frustrating, but I do think problem areas are the slowest to see results…so we just have to keep working at it and experimenting!
Susan ::: YAY!!!! Have fun with that new elliptical!! Yes, I am enjoying the HRM…still learning about how to train with it…the new DVDs just arrived yesterday…Since it was after ten when I got home from the dance, I didn’t bother to preview any. I’ll do that today. The dance was fine, but things sure have changed from when I was in junior high! We danced, we hung out – these kids wanted to *run* around the gym and chase one another. It struck me as very odd—more like what you’d see at an elementary dance rather than middle MS. I’m gonna have to school them in “cool” on Monday. ;-) It’s just funny the contrast between the district I am in now vs. my former district. The kids here are generally *very* well-behaved and academically-oriented, but they are also somewhat sheltered. Last year (my first year there), I couldn’t believe I was teaching eighth graders – they were SO different from the jaded 8th graders in my old school. Here, they’re a little more sheltered and innocent. Which I'll gladly take any day!
Colleen ::: tell us more about your voiceover website…what is it exactly? Yikes on the bleeding ankles! Maybe next year, they oughta go for bowling!!
Wendy ::: Yes, you did beat me.
You’re too quick a cheetah for me! I am striving, apparently, for the Great American novel. By the way, gloating is unattractive.
*lol*…That sounds like a good plan to attack the reading. Forgive me for sounding like a teacher right now
, but since you’ll be doing a lot of reading, I thought I’d share a good strategy for non-fiction that you might want to try. You can do this directly in the book or on Post-its if you’d rather not mark up the text…but what you’d do is use a set of symbols to notate your reading: circle any words you’re unfamiliar with, underline anything you feel is particularly important, use a ? to indicate something that confuses you, use a ! to indicate something that surprises you or that you disagree with…It's sort of a shorthand to save you some time...OK, I’ll take off my teacher hat now.
…So, what does a “rest week” look like in your program? (Probably like one of my intense weeks, ha ha!) I’m glad you are already seeing great results! Rock on!! And oh yes, I definitely think you will ACE that exam…you already know so much… and from what I know about you, I don’t think you *tackle* anything with less than 100%. It’s always scary at first when you go back to school, but you will find your groove and I do think it will be a breeze for you. It usually is easy to learn when you’re pursuing something you love!
OK, I think I'm caught up...Have a great day & w/outs, everyone!
Cathy
