I'm back from my run and instead of hoping to get in 3 miles, I got in 4.5 MILES...................!!!! I was so excited. I haven't ran for about a month, but have been working out really hard with weights and the elliptical so I guess it did some good for me, huh!?!? :)

Oh, I'm just flying high!!!

Have a great day everyone!! The running fever has hit me again - WATCH OUT!!!

Marcia.

RE: *** Cheetahs (runners, come & join us!) *** Sept 1s...

Marcia- Congratulations there cheetahgal! 4.5 miles after a break from running is great! The elliptical is a wonderful non impact way to keep up with the runnning form. Okay, now time to plan for a race }( }( }(

Christine- my posting double! Isn't HSTA great? Yes, that circuit workout really does attack the legs, as a runner ya gotta love it! I hope your phone guy has shown up by now!

Adri- Welcome to the cheetah check-in. It will be refreshing to have your input and enthusiasm. You certainly are into alot of activities and I'm not sure where you find the time! I would encourage you to try and take more rest days. At your age I'm sure you are brimming with energy and this is difficult but they really are just as important as your workouts.

Jennifer- I got such a kick out of your introduction! :) Welcome!!!!
from one addict to another. Congratulations on your first "running" half marathon. You have started and maintained your running very intelligently. Keep it up and you'll have a long and healthy running career! Are you planning on another race soon?

Pamela- Great to hear from you florida cheetahbabe! Yes, this time of year I most certainly do not miss Florida. I love being here in safe Arizona! I was there for Hurricane Andrew....not fun! Sounds like your staying in terrific shape with your bike riding, great cross training! (Why don't you try a triathlon?}( ) I don't blame you for passing on the job offer, you are definitely worth more!

Hey there partymax Barb! I get tired just hearing your description of this event!!!

Did some plyometrics after my nap and I'm feelin pretty good. I'll probably not be able to resist racing tomorrow (certified addict!)

Judy- I forgot you! Great job on those hills there! Sounds like you are definitely back in action. Those stretches you're doing must really be doing something!

Sally- I know I should take a day off, but I jsut love working out. I look forward to it everyday. I gives me a chance to do something I like to (like gymnastics) without anyone telling me what to do (unless I do a Cathe workout or a class at the gym) But your totally right;-)

Take Care!

Thanks so much for the welcome :)

Yes, I am planning another race pretty soon--VERY soon, as a matter of fact! I'll be running in the Maui Half in about 2 weeks :). Also, I'll be running in the Nike Half a few weeks after that, which is right in my backyard, over in SF (I'm in San Jose).

I may regret making the decision to run two half-marathons within a month of each other, but that's the plan :).

RE: *** Cheetahs (runners, come & join us!) *** Sept 1s...

Adri--I'm with Shelly--at a young age, establishing the wise habit of pacing yourself, enforcing rest & recovery -- even though of course, you don't need it right now at a palpable level -- you may in fact benefit from it. Resting or having light days will help you be able to use all of your energy and muscle strength for longer through out your life and for right now.

Working out everyday is great-- but be sure not to workout your HARDEST everyday. Just vary your workouts some: lighter, hard, harder, hardest -- to give your body and mind extra reassurance that you are recovering. If gymnastics is your base workout, add Cathe workouts to complement the intensity of the sport workout you MUST do as an athlete. Choose wisely!:) :) :) and your body and mind will thank you!

I say this all with enthusiasm and high fives :D -- not as a hag trying to rain on your enthusiasm--which is terrific -- just concerned and know from my own life experience that it's easy to over do it and not realize it!!!

Shelly---yes just thinking about the quad of parties and all the little things to do sparks some fatigue. We are now on a daily water-the-yard schedule so the stench from the compost dissipates more quickly. "Hey beautiful, landscaping, but that smell...what is that smell...ah, yes, I recognize it now: essence of horse manure!!";)

Great job on the plyometrics. A great thing to do training for your Marathon around the bend here! PF Chang, here comes Shelly!!!

RE: *** Cheetahs (runners, come & join us!) *** Sept 1s...

Jennifer- Wow... a half marathon in Maui....color me jealous! How exciting for you! We will want details! A good rule of thumb is that for each mile of racing you need a day of recovery. So a half marathon will require 2 weeks of resting at a minimum. I think with the right planning and strategy...and you sound very smart...you should be fine. BTW we have alot of California cheetahs on this check in. I believe Christine is in your area.

RE: *** Cheetahs (runners, come & join us!) *** Sept 1s...

Wow...busy thread today!

Shelly...a 10K sounds like a good idea! Yes MM is a great workout. I ended up doing GS shoulders instead...:)

Christine...cute story about your Mom up there not letting your Dad move...:)...you never know....Geeze, I hate waiting for the phone people!!! I hope you get the lines working again...YEP, Drillmax is going to make us all suffer...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/scared5.gif[/img] Good job with HSTA!

Adri...welcome to the cheetah checkin!! Your avatar is great. Being a gymnast will no doubt keep you in awesome shape. And of course Cathe will help too as you have found out...:)

Wendy...No throwing up in the morning!!!! You will do great!!!...:)

Jennifer..welcome to you too! Congrats on your first half! Yes I think most of us have the running addiction just like you...:)...You are so right...hard work pays off very well.

Pamela..thanks for your prayers...:)...The Elliptical is one of the best purchases I have made...I am so glad you are enjoying the bike...I do think the right job will come along. I am glad you didn't take the one for less pay. You are much better than that...:)

Judy...having a blast with the Elliptical!!! They finally got my nephew into rehab....it has been a very tough struggle the last few weeks. But this is a wonderful step...Good job on the tough run today!

Marcia...wow...great job on the 4.5 miles today...:)

Did 4 miles and GS shoulders as I have missed that one...:)

RE: *** Cheetahs (runners, come & join us!) *** Sept 1s...

Yes, I think I saw Christine say she was in SJ also - very cool :).

I think by the time I get done with the Maui Half, I'm supposed to be in taper for Nike, so it should be manageable (or so I tell myself *hehe*).

I'll definitely check back in when I get back (I'll be in Hawaii for 9 days - gotta enjoy it, right? ;))!! Until then, I'll be in the final stages of tapering and trying my best to avoid germs of all kinds so I stay healthy :).

RE: *** Cheetahs (runners, come & join us!) *** Sept 1s...

Carole :: I was in chip mode, wing mode, fries mode…the anti-thesis of clean eating. Did better today, though. Yeah, this dreary weather really makes me feel nap-ish. Hope you enjoyed today’s workout. The more I do MM, the more I really like it.

Shelly :: Good luck in the 10K if you opt to run it. Thanks for the words of encouragement!!

Christine :: I didn’t run today – mainly because of the chilly rain. Just wasn’t up for a soggy run. I did KPC instead and I must say, I did feel some twinges in my knee and Achilles but nothing too bad. I hope to get out and plug in 4 miles tomorrow. Will use the Stick and massage some of the trigger points tonight.

Adri :: welcome! I saw your post in the Open Discussion forum about whether or not to lift on the same day you kickbox. I kickbox about once a week and find that I am too kaput to lift before or after. But you sound young and energetic, so I’d say as long as you’re feeling good, go for it, and it doesn’t matter which order.

Wendy :: hey, we’ve all been there with first-race nerves…Remember to relax & have fun with it…we know you’ll do great and will be thinking of you…cheering you on in cheetah spirit! I would not do legs tonight if I were you.

Jennifer :: welcome to the thread, and thanks for sharing your story. I always find it interesting to hear how people got in running. For me, it was after my uncle’s sudden death 11 years ago. I flew to Germany for the funeral and did a lot of maniacal bike riding for the 6 weeks or so that I stayed…the physical pain was good somehow. When I came home, I didn’t have a bike anymore and street riding in South Jersey is like having a death wish, anyway. Something just compelled me to run, and I was quickly hooked. I fell out of it around 2000, partly due to Achilles tendonitis. But now I’m back and slowly regaining fitness.

Pamela :: good to see you ‘round here. I go back on Tuesday. In-service on Wednesday as well, and then the kids come back on Thursday. I don’t blame you for turning down the job. Gotta hold out for what you’re worth.

Judy :: great job on that hilly run!

Barb :: well, that’s ONE way to make sure your guests don’t overstay their welcome. lol Hang in there!

Marcia :: way to go on the 4.5 miles! You can hear the renewed determination in your post. Catching—I love it!

Hi to Gayle, Laura, Mattea, Thomasina, Colleen, oh boy...I'm starting to forget names...sorry if I've left anyone out. Have a great night, everyone. It's miserable weather here -- perfect for curling up on the couch. Besides, I need to lay off the Coronas, so I can run in the AM!

RE: *** Cheetahs (runners, come & join us!) *** Sept 1s...

Thanks! My avatar was of me almost 4 year ago (about 3.5) when I was 10 and jsut getting into fitness and health. You can tell I didn't have like any muscle. I was just skinny. I gained so much muscle through the gym and Cathe. I wish I had of pic of me now but my camera broke while I was downloading pics to my picture trail. I got a six pack and my biceps are gettin huge;-) My endurance has also sky roketed, so I took up running 2 years ago for our schools track team.

Marcia-4.5 miles...Thats fantastic:) Good job and keep it up;-)

Jennifer- Did I read it right? Are you going to Hawaii or something? If you are, well I hope you have a lot of fun. I bet its great there!

Cathy- I think I'll probally lift after I do the kickboxing since the class is at 9:15. Thanks for your help. I just got on now. I gatta check everything else

Hope everyone else is doing good today!!!

I can't wait unitl Drill Max comes out. I pre-ordered that one first then heard soo much good stuff about Butts & Guts I couldn't resist
}(

Take Care Cheetahs;-)

Hiya Adri!! I've *seen* you post on the open forum & other forums but it's nice to have you join us!! We're a fun bunch if I do say so myself! ;-) I think it's great that you're so into fitness already. I wish I had been into it when I was in high school, I couldn't even run a mile then!! I am training for my first marathon. I have done a lot of shorter races (5Ks, 5 mile, 12K, 10 mile, and a half marathon) so far this year, I love the races! I'm just mainly wanting to finish the marathon w/out any injuries!! I just found Cathe DVD's a few months ago & LOVE the muscle definition & strength that I'm getting from them!! Glad you joined in!

Hugs,

Jennifer ~ I'm glad that you joined in also!! Very cool on the Maui Half!! I'm sure you'll do great- any goal times?? I just did a half a couple weekends ago (it worked into my marathon training) & was thrilled to go sub- 2 (1:59:19). I did my first half last Sept. Good luck w/ your races!!

Hugs,

Wendy ~ I can't wait to hear the report!!! You're going to do great & just have a good time at your first race! I'm telling you... you'll be addicted!! I think it was a good idea to rest up a bit, you'll be happy that you did during the race!

Take care & post when you can!

Hugs,

RE: *** Cheetahs (runners, come & join us!) *** Sept 1s...

Hey Cheetahs.

I started doing Slim and Lean this morning but was interrupted about 3/4's of the way through as my mom showed up a bit early. Once I put Joey down I will finish it. I opted to do the entire work out but did the leg portions without weights.

Well, Ernesto tropical whatever he is is upon us here in NJ. The worst weather is supposed to hit from about 2 am to 2pm tomorrow. Great! x( I'll find out around 7am if the race is still a go. Right now it's quite windy but not a lot of rain...

I've been feeling very tired all day. I think it's because I slept too late. Ya know how that can be! LOL I'm sure the dreary weather didn't help either...haven't seen the sun in 3 days...ACK!

Well...that's all for now ladies.

Have a good evening!

I'm finally checking back in!! It was a major errand running day for me today!! Lots of stuff to do to get ready for the busy weekend!!

Oh my goodness... we walked around the block earlier while the girls rode their bikes & our dog Mikey got into a dog fight w/ 2 other dogs!! My poor dh tried to get him away & got bit TWICE!! His poor arm & hand are all swollen & torn up. Poor guy!! One neighbor dog has been getting a bit aggressive, I think a couple neighbors are going to talk to the owner. I just worry that he might bite one of the kids around here!! Mikey was really just trying to protect the girls, he's very protective (he's a 95+ lb German Shephard/ chocolate lab). Anyway that was my exercise for the evening. :p

Yes, I don't know if I'm dedicated or nuts.... getting up at 3:45 for my long 20 mile run. Heading to bed by 9:30 & I should have time to at least check in before we have to head out tomorrow. Have a great night!

Hugs,

The gal that I became friendly w/in my running classes just called to wish me luck for tomorrow! That was so sweet! It stinks though cause she can't run tomorrow-she has to work. :-( She did, however, sign up for a different 5k that goes on Monday. She's running a boardwalk race...lucky her...NO HILLS!:p

I just wanted to post that cause it really made me feel good.:)
