:::CHEETAHS::: MONDAY:::

Lunchin on some Garnola and foam rolling away. So I would take my roller Wendy considering I'm rolling in the living room while stuffing my face with granola.

Linda- I can't wait for you to give us your race report. Is this your first one or have you done one before.

Dallas- I'm walking like Mrs. Frankenstein today so I would say that is improvment.

Shelly- I think I am going to shoot for the Ocean Drive in March. If I don't do that then I will probably do the one in May in DE. It would be nice to have a get together marathon.

Jackie- Great job on the workout today. Are you training for anything right now.

LaDonna- Great job on your half. Sorry your PF was acting up. This time I managed to stay away from that but got a calf situation instead.

Jackie – Great job on the run and GymStyles!

LaDonna – Congrats on your half! Good job! That is a wonderful time!

Shelly – I’ll bet you are getting excited for Philly! Yay! I really hope we do get to run together some time!

I know the following is really long! Sorry! I tried to keep it as short as I could, though.

The route we ran yesterday is the same route that we ran when all the dogs chased us. Remember my encounter with the “devil dog” ;) This route is on a rural country road. We were both armed with our pepper spray. There were countless dogs that growled, barked and chased us, and of course the “devil dog” came after us again. He got a spray…but it didn’t get him, but he must have gotten it before, because he backed up and left us alone.

Around five miles into the run, we heard dogs barking in a yard that was off to our right. We never could see them, but we were armed and ready! When we turned our heads/eyes back forward, standing directly in front of us was a black pit bull. I am petrified of pit bulls after hearing all the “horror” stories. I know that there are a lot of friendly ones, and it basically depends on how they have been trained. …and I definitely did not know how this one would be. We were petrified and pointed our spray to get ready. The dog kind of hunkered down and wagged her tail timidly. We were still cautious, even at that point, but we were pretty sure that she would not hurt us. She came and we petted her. And that was the start of a wonderful, but also heartbreaking run.

We tried to get her to go “home”. We weren’t sure really where she lived because she just kind of appeared when we had our head turned. She took off running with us and she literally scoped out all the houses and barking dogs. Then she would look back at us to make sure we were still coming and okay. There were tons of dogs that would come growling and barking towards us and her. Never once, I cannot stress this enough….not one time did that dog bark, growl or make a peep. The fur on her back would raise, but she never made an aggressive move towards any dog, person, cat…or anything. She would get between the dogs that were coming after us and stand there with her scruff raised and not make a peep. When Patty and I were past….she would come and catch up with us and again lead us, scoping out things.

She ran with us for 18 miles. I never knew a dog could keep up a pace for that long. We made a pit stop at the vehicle to get some more “fuel”. I had a bag of ice in my cooler. I poured it out for her and she ate and licked some of it and then laid down on top of it. When we took off again, she was ready to go. We could definitely tell the poor thing was losing her “pep”, though…but she kept at it!

Going back around the loop again, we tried to find out who she belonged to, but everyone said they had never seen her before and thought someone had dropped her off. We asked several people to hold her until we could get a good distance away, hoping she would go “home” …but she would always catch up with us.

We were trying to figure out how on earth we were going to get in the vehicle and leave, because that would be a more heavily trafficked area. We finally decided that I would keep running with her on the other side of the river and Patty would run back to the car (a mile or so back) and then she would pick me up and we would have to leave her. That is what we did and it broke my heart to see the poor little thing running as hard as she could to try to catch us in the car.

I hope you guys don’t think I am nuts, but I am having a really hard time trying to keep from crying about that dog. I hope and pray that she really did have a home. I have never before “met” a sweeter, more loving dog in my life. The thing that really gets us is the fact that she never made the slightest sound! We’ve been calling her the “angel dog”.

Check it out!!!!!

Hey! I just looked up the split times for the race and I did it! We actually DID come in BEFORE 3:30!!!!

3:29:04 is the chip time
3:30:02 is the gun time

They didn't have everything posted when I looked y'day. I just assumed the time was chip time. So happy it wasn't! ;)

WOO HOO!!!! Amazing what a difference a minute makes! :D

Wendy- Way to go. That is really a fablous time girl. I saw the Fredrick one. They give out the Maryland Double which is a special medal if you do the full or half in Fredrick and then again in Oct at the Baltimore one. So you would need to do the half in both which are May and Oct or the full in both to get the medal. They had about 800 people get there double medals yesterday. Pretty impressive. Right now I'm going to shoot for the ocean drive simply because I know at least the first part of the course and can deal with the wind since it was the wind that almost killed me doing the 10 miler. It really was windy. It's a small marathon too. I think they have only about 600 marathons and more 10 milers. Words can't describe but like with weather you never know what your going to get. If I don't do the OD I am going to do Fredrick or DE for sure. If you do Fredrick over DE then so will I, if I don't do OD. Did that make sense.

Linda- i dont' think your crazy. I think your compassionate. You can just read it in your email. I'm sure the dog found his way home. For sure. Don't worry.

Karen: You do what ever is best for you. Would be great to do the same one but if it doesn't happen perhaps there will be another race we can meet up at. :)
I'm also considering a May marathon in Mass. I want to see how close it is to Boston since I've always wanted to go there anyway. It's farther from home then I'd prefer but still driveable so I am going to consider it. :)

HI Cheetahs!

Karen and Wendy - already plannignwhile still hobbling! LOL

Wendy- I just got off the foam roller. I had a bit of tightness after my run. Did you take yours to the park with Joey?

Karen- so your aches are improving slowly?

Ladonna- I hope you come back here to check in !

So today, like last Monday, for my long run ( 7 miles at this point) , I waited until my breakfast had digested and ran just before lunch. Normally my workouts are done as soon as kids have left for school. (or within 30 minutes of them leaving) But last week and this week the new time worked out well.

Shelly- I'll tell DB that you felt the race was well organized. He actually does most of the races in NJ/NY tristate area. He has been at it for many years. On Saturday at my Dads house, we dug up some pictures of his (DB) first few marathons. Oh my how funny! It was 1980 and he finished in 2:47!!! I had no idea he was so fast! At that time I was away at college and could not get home to see him. I did ride my bike for the last 10 miles of one of his marathons back in the day. Oops! Sorry to ramble!!!

Linda- Oh I hope that sweet dog is Ok! I would be in tears too!

Hi ya Girls.

Judy: Nope, didn't bring roller to park. I'm not that bold. LOL I did, however, roll around for a few minutes 2x in my house today. OUCH that thing hurts! Wow, your brother's marathon time is mucho impressive!!!

Linda: Aaaaaawwwww. Poor pup. I hope he has a home and finds his way back to it soon. And as for your invite to run your mary with you in 2 weeks...um well....no thanks! LOL I think I'll stick to my 09 plan!;):D

LaDonna: Another impressive finish! Great job!:D Sorry about the PF. I think we all have our share of aches and pains post race. I know I for one am wincing with every step!:p

Jackie: Nice work out today. Hope the roller manages to keep the hammies race-ready!:)

Shelly: WoW, 8:30...for real!? I slept in too....6:15. LOLOL I ofcourse do not have to work all night tonight so I guess we're even. ;) I am hobbling around like crazy. Everything from the waist down hurts, I swear! The top of my right foot even hurts though I don't know why!!!! So here you are doing HSC today and I can barely walk! Oh well. I could have done upper body today but decided there was no need. I did, however, walk...or shall I say LIMP...laps around the jungle gym at the park today while DS played. The longer I sit still the more it hurts when I try to move!

Dallas: Glad you had fun at dinner with Chicago crew. Yeah, I've been thinking of a full for a while now. I've been kinda wishy-washy about it the last couple of weeks but after completing 18 miles I've realized that I HAVE TO run a marthon now. I have no choice! I'm only 8 miles away! How can I not, right? :D The foam roller and I currently have a love/hate relationship. Yeah...I LOVE TO HATE IT! LOL :p

Cathy, Posh, Christine and Carole: Waitin' patiently for the first Chi-Town Cheetah to return and post an update! Hope everyone got or is getting home safely. Missed you all while you were gone! :)

Well, it's back to reality tmrw....back to work for me and Joey goes back to school. Not sure what work out I will do tmrw. It all depends on how I feel...

BBL to see if anyone's posted!:)

LaDonna - Congratulations on your half! That was a great time to me! Hope the PF feels better.

Karen - Granola and foam rolling is a good combination. :D Yes, training for the St. Jude half in Dec. if I decide to do it. Trying to wait and see how I feel after I get a 10 mile run in.

Wendy - So, you're ready to attempt that marathon? Congratulations on beating your goal time!! Has to pump you up.

Linda - Sounds like you had an angel dog running with you yesterday. I thought angel before I read the rest of your post. I know it was hard to leave her like that. Did she have a collar on?

Judy - Glad you had a good run!

Nighty nite!

Evening girls,

Thought I'd pop in to check on Cali girls and Cathy. I heard on the news about the Cali fires. I wonder if that will effect them getting home on time? We ended up going to the pumpkin patch. Everyone had the same idea. It was fine though.

Linda ~ That would be heart breaking. :( Maybe when you run that route you'll see her again? I wonder why ppl don't put identification on their pets??

LaDonna ~ WTG!! High Fives!! Now which race is on tap? ;)

Karen ~ lol Mrs. Frankenstein!! I remember that feeling! I had to drive over two hours after my first half, then sit and watch soccer...not good! I did stretch on the grass, but I was already stiff from the drive. Keep foam rolling!

Wendy/Shelly ~ WTG on the time!! Too bad were so far apart, it would be great to run w/you.

Shelly ~ HSC after running 18 miles! Whoa nelly! How did that go!?!

Jackie ~ Thanks about the kids. :) Both their teams finished second. Out of all those teams that's quite the accomplishment. :) Are you counting down the days now for your race w/all this race talk!

Well, as I mentioned, my workout was a little over an hour. I used iBiClimb #14, and let me tell you I didn't need to do anything else! That was a good one. I used the treadmill more than the EXT though. So, I got in 2.5 miles on the tread and 10 min on the EXT. That was a nice little circuit hitting all the body parts. :) I think Jackie told me about that one. Thanks! I may get BBC upper body weights out of the way tonight. Well see....;)

Have a great night!

Hi cheetahs!

I am home again. Still wired from travel, so I figure I’ll post now. The morning will probably be rough ‘cuz I have no idea what I've planned to teach tomorrow. *lol*

Re: Chicago cheetahs falling off beds and what-not: I am personally of the belief that what happens in Chicago, stays in Chicago. *hic* ;)

Will jump in with personals starting from today.

Gloria—Thanks so much for the support. I wish you could’ve been there. Maybe next year? Hope you had a great run today.

Judy—your posts gave me warm fuzzies—thank you! Yes, I do plan to run another marathon. Donna and I agreed we want to do Chitown next year again. I am hoping some cheetahs will get in on it, too!...Wow on DB running sub-3. You’ve got the cheetah thing in your blood! Do you think you’d ever consider a full?

Linda—Awww, that is a heartwarming and heartbreaking story about your canine friend. It must have been so difficult to leave her. I think I would’ve wanted to take her home. But really, that is just amazing how she protected you and stuck with you for 18 miles! I’m also stunned that you have to deal with that many loose and angry dogs. It sounds a lot like Greece!...Anyway, I don’t think it is nuts at all to be upset over it. Were you tempted to drive back and see if she is still there? I would be worried about her, too…I wish I could fly out and support you in your marathon…thank you; they did have plenty of fluids and an alert system that worked well. About 70 people or so were taken to the hospital, and from what I have read on the RW forums, LOTS had to make serious pace adjustments, so it was nice to know I wasn’t the only one withering in the heat. *lol* Seriously though, sometimes I wanted to die and sometimes it felt so exhilarating, it is hard to put into words. Today I feel good. Walked quite a bit last night and today.

Dallas—Sorry DD’s team didn’t clinch the win after such a long tourney…I’ll bet some of those parents can be over the top. Have you seen Kicking and Screaming?...Oh, it was SO great to meet you! Thank you for driving out to the restaurant AND bringing us back to the hotel…I know now I don’t want to run Napa—I will be training differently for my next marathon and want more time to get there, but I still would like to try to come out & support. Will do my best to make that happen. Chicago ’09—I’m there! J My mom is OK. She sounds much better today. It was a lot of walking for her, esp. yesterday in the heat, so she wiped out a lot in the evenings. I did not get to meet up with Posh at the crack o’ dawn—I must’ve just missed her. Oh no! So sorry we dragged you to a questionable part of town. I checked out the restaurant on RW and tripadvisor beforehand, and none of the locals mentioned that. Usually, they don’t steer you wrong. Sorry ‘bout that! Oh, and thanks for the email. Very helpful info, as always. Appreciate you sharing that.

Wendy—congrats on beating your goal! Most excellent! And I see it’s given you full-fledged mary fever. Good for you!...Of course, I feel my legs and feet, but I am not in great pain, no. I believe it’s attributable to three things: 1) sticking with a consistent, conservative approach, 2) Aleve J, and 3) post-race walking. Covered quite some ground last night and today. Next stop: massage table. J

With regard to your marathon prospects, why not do Chicago? If you are going to sit in a car for 5-6 hours, you might as well fly for under 2. Seriously, I don’t think you will find a marathon with better crowd support. As mentioned to Judy above, my friend and I plan on signing up again next year.

Karen— What kind of goodies did you get at the expo? I know you were looking forward to that. Sounds like a good ol’ time, foam rollin’ and granola-ing away. Well, at least the stuffing-your-face part, anyway. *ha ha*

Shelly—my cousin’s GF is doing MCM this year (her first). I’m looking forward to cheering her on. My pace is far, FAR too slow for you, but I would be happy to do a race with you (or any cheetah!) whenever the opportunity presents itself. MCM is one I would consider. However, it is close to Chicago… J I am just awed by the cheetah support in all forms. It’s quite a team we have here.

Robin—thank you! J I’m really more of a snail than a cheetah myself, but that doesn’t stop me from posting here. Join us anytime you wanna chat with some runnin’ fools.

Jackie—Whoo! That was some butt-whippin’ workout you had. Sounds like you are right on top of the hamstring issues…Oh, I saw the Cheesecake Factory and thought of you. J

LaDonna—congrats on an awesome finish! That’s a GREAT time! I am sorry about your PF, though, and I hope you can get that in check. A rest week sounds good. At mile 11, I was thinkin’: UT OH. J

OK, I am up waaaaay too late for a school night and will surely pay the price tomorrow. *lol*

But let me just say: I would like to invite any and all interested cheetahs to join me back in Chitown in ’09.

I am still on a high from what I thought was an absolutely FABULOUS weekend!!
