GOOD MORNING CHEETAHS!:)

Wendy, Shelly, Posh and Cathy: YEAH!!!! :) You girls are the best!

Linda: I am looking forward to the dog story!

Jackie: Yes, I am in pain today! :)

Karen: How is your calf?

Short and sweet here. I will be running today. Safe travels to airport bound Cheetahs! :)

Greetings from Chi-town!!!

Hey, everyone!

My phone is so wacky. The alarm was set to wake me up at 5:45 yesterday, and I didn't change the setting. But today it went off at 2:45??? It's like the other day when it went off even though it was set to not ring. Bizarre. Anyway, I'm awake, so I'm down here in the lobby and figured I'd send a quick hello.

It's been a whirlwind weekend, and I haven't read through all the posts, but I wanted to say, first, congrats to Karen! WOW! What a fast, FAST time! ^^^ 5's on the awesome finish, and I hope your calf is better.

Also, congrats to Wendy & Shelly on the LBI 18 miler! I hope, Wendy, that your knee is OK after that. I look forward to reading your race report.

It's been such a treat to meet Christine, Posh, and Dallas and see Carole again. I can't even begin to tell you how much I adore these gorgeous & fun women--they are truly great friends to come all the way out to Chicago--I'm SO grateful for that--and I've had a blast hanging out with them. Future cheetah travel is a must!

As for the marathon...the Cliff notes version...WE FINISHED!! Woo-hoo! Thanks for all the good wishes, congrats, and support along the way.

It was QUITE warm (the alert level was raised to high during the run), and I have to admit, I struggled a bit, more so than on any of my long training runs. I'm talkin' already at the half mark, I was a little concerned about how I was feeling. Luckily, that's where Carole jumped in; she ran the second half with my friend Donna and me, and what a Godsend she was. She had these electrolyte tablets that really helped me pick up. We did a little more walking than planned, but the crowd support was absolutely PHENOMENAL! We would see Christine and Donna's friends at different points throughout the course. They were wonderful (and probably got a great workout!) to run from one spot to the next to cheer us on. The last mile was the hardest mile I've ever run in my life, but what a feeling to cross the finish. My shoulders were really stiff (what does that tell ya about my form? *lol*) during the race and are a little tense now, but overall, I'm feeling good. No major post-race aches or injuries, so of course, I'm thrilled about that!

Overall, I am so impressed with Chicago--the city's got such flavor. Great food, great people, beautiful buildings, and clean! OMG, the pizza. Yum! I definitely plan to return, and this is a marathon I would love to repeat again someday. Yes, you read that right. Now that I actually finished one, it's here in print--I know it WON'T be "one and done" for me, after all. :) :) :)

I will catch up on personals when I am home again.

Safe travels to Posh (I'm hoping to catch her at checkout 'cuz she has a very early am departure), Carole, and Christine.

Have a great day, everyone! Thanks again for sharing the excitement.

Cathy- I got on the computer early just to see if you posted. Thankfully you had a great experience in spite of the heat and very tense shoulders. And you even plan to do it again~ all I can say is WOW! It has been a joy to read your progress every step of the way. Thank you for sharing this experience with us all. And bless Carole for running with you! And Christine for being a great support and providing us with updates along the way!

Posh- Same to you girlfriend! I am anxious to read your summary of the big Chicago Event!

To all traveling Cheetahs today, have a safe flight !

PS- I heard from Wendy last night! I am sure she will post all the details ASAP

Good Morning Girls.

Yes Shelly, I'm still alive. You didn't QUITE kill me. Perhaps you need to try a little harder next time. ;) LOL

I apologize for never checkin' in post race y'day. It's very unlike me and I hope I didn't SERIOUSLY worry anyone. I was just sore and exhausted and I needed a shower and a nap sooooo very badly. When I got up from said nap I had just enough time to get ready to head out. We met my mom and her SO at a restaraunt for dinner that is half way between us and them so that we could do the "Joey trade-off". Once Joey was in bed, I crashed on the couch in front of the boob tube until crawling into bed a little after 9pm. :)

Well, let me start by saying that Shelly is da bomb. She stuck with me at my often-times turtle-like pace (well it was always turtle like for her) no matter what. I offered several times to have her pull away but she wouldn't. She refused with a smile. She was there to support me and that is exactly what she did. I can't thank you enough Shelly! You are an awesome lady! THANK YOU from the bottom of my Cheetah heart! :)

The course is georgous. Most of it was a straight shot up the main drag of LBI. It only took a couple of slight turns right at the end of the course. It ended near the light house that is at one end of the island and apparently you are supposed to run up the light house steps when you finish the race. Um...no thank you! To my surprise, Shelly did not do it either. I thought for sure that she would! The sky was clear-not a cloud to be seen-strong sun. Temps in the low 70's. The breeze through the ENTIRE course was AWESOME. Definately a beautiful day. If the breeze were not there perhaps it would have been too warm but that breeze made a a world of difference.

As you all know, it's TTOM for me. Well, it proved to cause problems which makes me mad cause I could have finished sooner if not for that! I am prone to bowels that don't neccessarily cooperate when I have my monthly and y'day was no different. I had to stop 2x on the course to go. I stopped my garmin each time. We lost almost 8 minutes because of that! Not to the mention the fact that my belly was bloated and felt uncomfortable during the entire race pretty much. UGH.

Given the above issues I was unenthused to consume alot of the clifshots I had with me and was also a bit weary of the endurolytes wondering if either would create worse tummy issues for me. I used them but I didn't consume as much as I should have. Yes, somewhere around mile 11-12 the leg cramps started. They were mild at first so I downed a couple extra endurolytes to try and combat them. By mile 15 I was in a lot of pain though. Perhaps the outcome would have been no different even if I DID consume the planned amount of clifshots/endurolytes-I don't really know. Anyway...the last 3 miles were not fun and Shelly did everything she could to make me laugh and get me through it. :) That "rope" really came in handy!:D

So anyway, my finish time was 3:30:02 with an average pace of 11:00. My goal was 3:30 so I am VERY happy with that especially considering what I was dealing with enroute. My DH was at the finish line snapping pics of us. I will post a couple later today.

Post race I spent a while stuffing my face and drinking gator ade and water while walking around and stretching to get the cramps under control before heading home.

This morning I am sore sore sore with sunburn too. I meant to put sunscreen on but never wrote it down on my to do list and therefore never did it. My back, shoulders and back of my arms are pretty toasty looking and they hurt. :(

So that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! :D Oh and Shelly, being true to form, had me cross the finish line first! Love ya, Shell! MWAH!

CONGRATS CATHY AND POSH!!!! :)

Three cheers for Cathy and Thomasina!!!!

Woo hoo!

You girls are AWESOME!!!!!:):D:):D

I want to know how Cathy finished w/o a ton of soreness though!?!? I'm jealous girl! :p

Thomasina, Can't wait to hear your marathon tale when you get home later today!

I love the fact that Cathy is looking to run another marathon. That's great!

Carole is da bomb for jumping in for moral support! Love that! :D

Cath- way to go. I got up extra early today just to see if you or Posh and Wendy/ Shelly had checked in. I'm so glad you did. I can't tell you how proud we are. The heat must have been awful but you did it. Have a safe flight. We can't wait for you to get home. thanks for the encouragment and support during my race. I had a great time. The high made me want to do a full. Just like you said I think I'm not a one and done for my half. It makes me want more.

Wendy= Great job and time. YOu did fantastic. Like you I forgot my sunscreen to and was burnt. My legs are very sore and so is my calf but the tiny foam torture device seems to be working.

Shelly- What a great friend you are. I figured what Wendy said was always true. You are one amazing cheetah.

Carole/ Christine- I hope you have a safe flight. YOu girls are great.

Posh- Hope you made it home ok. You did great. We are so proud of you.

Gloria- Thanks for asking. The claf is still off. I know it just isn't sore. It's pulled. My only thing is that it could be worse so I'm ok with it. I just want to flush out the legs with a little run but know I can't and shouldn't. I'll see how it goes today.

Judy- Hi to you this morning. Hope you have a great day and enjoy your workout.

Now I'm off to so some sort of upper body. No running for me today still. I may do somthing very easy tomorrow but today I still know my claf can't handle it.

Karen: I know I have to foam roll today but oh my gosh and I am dreading it! LOL

ETA: I FINALLY read your race report, Karen. Sorry so late. Anyway, great report! Great race! Amazing effort and finish time with all of those hills! I HATE HILLS! LOL Sounds like you had a blast. Happy to hear you are still considering a full.

Here's a non-Cheetah sneaking in to say you all are so impressive! Great job with all the various and sundry races!

Thanks Robin and Wendy.

Wendy- I just did my foam roller and my gosh. I want to know who thought up such a torture device. I have to say though, I can feel a difference in my soreness from yesterday. The foam is doing it's thing. Have fun foaming.

Good morning!

Cathy – Congratulations! You did it!!! I am so proud of you! I was kind of afraid the weather may be pretty warm and humid. Did they have plenty of fluids this time? You did great!! And that was great that Carole was able to run with you part of the way!!! How do you feel today?

Posh – Yay!!! You did it, too!!! You guys are awesome! Can’t wait to hear your report! That was so great that you and Cathy got to run together and that you got to meet with the group of lovely Cheetahs! Hope you have a safe trip home!

Wendy – Wonderful job on your race! That is a great time, too! You still had a really good time with all of the problems with the cramps, TTM, and everything. I am so happy for you!! If you were wanting to do a full in a few weeks, you and Shelly should hop on down and do Marshall Marathon with me  Granted….it is not a “Big” marathon. This is only it’s fifth year. It is November 2. Just a thought…..:  Way to go!!

Shelly – That was so sweet of you to stay with Wendy and try to keep her mind off the pain and letting her cross the finish line first ! What a good friend you are! 

Carole – How sweet of you to run part of the way with Cathy! I am so glad you guys had such a good weekend! Hope you had a good trip home! Oh, by the way, what were the Electrolyte tabs you had to give Cathy? I think I may order some, but not really sure “which” ones are the best.

Karen – How are you feeling today? Are you planning your next race, already ? ;)
I am so glad your race turned out to be so much fun! So, is your calf still pretty bad? Sending good healing vibes!

Hey to everyone! I will be back a little later!

Hey all.

Been doing some marathon searching as I am re-thinking my Ocean Drive option. Read several reviews and although the course is gorgeous and the marathon is run very well, it's a very windy course that has a good chance of being COLD too. That doesn't sound like a good first choice for me.

That being said I'd really like to do one in the earlier part of the year. I looked up all viable options I could find during the month of May and came across quite a few taking place between Mass and Maryland so there's still hope. ;)

Well, gotta go get dressed. Promised DS a park visit since he has no school today. Once I hobble my way to the jungle gym there I can sit down and ice my knees while he plays. I wonder how many strange looks I would get if I brought my foam roller and rolled around in the grass for a while? :p

BBL!

Good Morning Cheetahs!

You girls are amazing!! :D I have to say, at least for the racing Chicago Cheetahs the conditions were terrible. I have the sunburn to prove it. ;) I put sun screen on my kids, but forgot me. Y-day was hot!!! I did not get to meet up with the girls again, obviously. I had brought my running gear just in case. :( DD went all the way in the tourney. :) Her first game started @7:30A and last one ended at 6:?? with double overtime and a shoot out only to lose to the wild card team. :( Bless their hearts. They were pretty sad. I was proud of them no matter what. Both DS and DD played well and tried their hardest...that's all that matters. :) I've had enough of soccer parents for awhile.:p

Anyway, back to the racing Cheetahs!!

Wendy ~ lol'd about taking a pass on running up the lighthouse. I think I might have too. That Shelly, what a girl!! :D Glad she was there for support. :) You did an awesome job despite all that you had going on w/ttotm. How are you feeling today? The foam roller will be your new friend? ;) Or maybe enemy!!! LOL Are you considering a full now?

Shelly ~ WTG running with and supporting Wendy! You're a class act! :) Would love to hear your rendition of "Eye of the Tiger". ;) ha ha

Cathy ~ What can I say that I haven't already texted you! I'm so proud of you!!! I knew you could do it!! BTW, you looked adorable in your yellow and black! :) Nothing like a bee. LOL I'm so glad you're considering running another one. Napa next?!? Glad you're coming back to Chi-town for another. I'll be there!! :) Did you meet up w/Posh in the lobby this morn? She was wired last night when she texted me back. ha ha She said she had no caffeine. uhmm...you ladies left too much money in my car!!! It was my pleasure to drive you back to the hotel! :D How is your mom feeling? Glad you're feeling pretty good today. Hope those shoulder aches subside quickly.

Posh ~ Did you ever fall asleep? You sounded rearing to go in your text last night. I could barely keep my eyeballs open. Thanks for the hugs for DD. You hate to see them lose like that. :( How are you feeling today? How is Beryl? Thanks for the Blackberry tutorial. ;) Although, I was trying to load that tracker thing until almost midnight before the race and it wouldn;t cooperate. I tried again at the soccer field and said that option was not available anymore. Oh well, our Christine did an awesome job texting and updating! :) Oh, you are photogenic! You're a beautiful person inside and out!! :) I looked back at my pictures...I'm the one that looks like a cartoon character at the restaurant/table picture!!! Geez, my big chompers are all out there w/my sweaty big forehead!! LOL

Christine ~ Thanks again for all the texting/updating!!! I checked in on the thread and you even updated the rest of the Cheetahs w/pix and all!! :D You got yourself a workout too y-day...running to the various check points. :) Don't you love that Bean? Did you girls check out the Millennium Park? After dropping you girls off, I passed it and was wondering if you made it over there. Thanks Christine for your kind words!

Carole ~ Another class act like Shelly! :D That was awesome you joined her at the half. How's the Chicago course compared to others you have run? Hope that umbrella in the eye didn't cause you any problems? ;) Thanks for the super sweet text! I'm curious too about the electrolyte tablets?

Karen ~ How's that calf feeling today? Still doing the Frankenstein walk?

Gloria ~ How was your drive w/DH?

Linda ~ Yes, waiting for the dog story! Great job on the 24.6 miles! OH my!

Jackie ~ Great job on your recent 9 miles!

Judy ~ What have you been up to lately?

Wendi ~ Where were you off to now? I know I read somewhere you were packing.

Ladonna ~ How did it go on your half?

Again, so glad to have met Christine, Carole, Cathy and Thomasina!! Wonderful gals, but of course! :D We had some good laughs at the restaurant (BTW, a dad at the soccer field grew up near the restaurant and said it was a shady part of town....gulp! He said that the main drag of restaurants it fine, but the surrounding areas not so good. Dh gave me a look.) and car ride. You survived my driving. I hate city driving. I hope to meet and/or run a race with the rest of you someday. Cheetahs ROCKS!!

Well, the kids are just now waking up. I slept in too, just couldn't get up. It will be an abbreviated workout since they're off school today.

Safe travels to all heading home!

BBL!

Wendy, I'd bring it....who cares!! You might inspire someone to run a race!! ;) Roll away, girl! :p enjoy the park. We'll probably hit the pumpkin patch at some point today.

Cheetahs Rock!

Good morning all!

Wow! I slept in til 0830 this morning:eek: Can't remember when I last did that! After I got back from the LBI 18 miler DH and I bought a new dining room set at a second hand place. It was so US and the price made it hard to resist. DH wanted it bad and I had had such a good time that day he caught me in a weak moment;) So the rest of the day was spent loading the table and various other stuff we had left in NJ, hooking up the boat to tow that back, then loading up the dogs for the 4.5 hr trip back to PA:eek: We got here about 9:30pm.... still hadn't eaten yet but oddly I didn't really feel that ravenous. I did scarf down some bagels post race, so don't worry cheetahs... I did refuel!

Wendy- Glad I didn't kill you after all!!! You are are just too sweet!
It was you all along there kiddo and I don't think I really made that much difference. Your pacing was SUPERB!!!! As I told you, you always know you did well when you are passing by everyone walking the last few miles and that is exactly what occurred! I don't know how you put up with my inane babble! ;)

My booboo re: MCM... guess I was confusing that with another marathon. I'll have to do some research for something suitable. I would REALLY love to do MCM some day tho!!

You never did mention your knee either during the race or after so I guess that held up just fine! GREAT JOB and I was proud to be there with you.
That was a fantastic 18 mile run for me and great training for my Philly marathon Nov 23rd. Re: running up the lighthouse. Ya know, I actually didn't even think about it. I was too anxious to get back and pack up to head home. Now I wish I had thought of it!! Would have been fun!

Gloria! Nice to hear from you and I guess you have this holiday off... what are your long runs up to now?

CATHY - CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN!! I bet your e-mail is packed with good wishes and congratulations. I am particularly thrilled that you are planning to do another marathon!! AWESOME!!!!!! How about MCM?
(LOL) As Wendy can attest to I can provide entertainment thruout... but you may want to strangle me by the end;) Great job hanging in there under difficult situations!!! YOU ROCK

Posh- Looking forward to reading your race report. WTG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Judy- Hey there! Forgot at the end to see if Wendy and I could find your brother! The race was obviously well organized and timed by professionals!!!

Karen- Congratulations to you too! Actually, heat really was never an issue at all. There was a nice breeze blowing the whole time, it was really perfect running weather. There were several areas where people had hoses running as a spray for runners to go thru but I always went around them... didn't feel the need:) Absolutely FANTASTIC that you are contemplating doing a full now!!!! Do you have an idea of the time frame? Wendy is shooting for a fully mary next May... maybe you'll want to join her... and me too if she'll put up with my babbling again;)

Robin- How nice to drop in and give congratulations!! THANKS~~ You are great!!!

Linda- Great job on that 24+ mile run  You are more then ready for this Marathon and we'll all be anxiously awaiting your post that day!!!
Wish I could join you!! But you'll have a wonderful running partner apparently. I do have Philly to look forward to Nov 23rd. Hey.... you aren't very far away.... I WILL run a race with you someday!!!!

Carole- OKAY... enquiring minds want to know.... What's with the falling off the bed?????????? You and Christine must be quite a pair together!
Sounds like we can give you some well deserved credit for being there for Cathy during her critical moments!!!!!!! YAY for Carole!!! Cant wait to see some pics!

Christine- I'd put you in that giving critical support category too! OMG- I'm hopeful my house will somehow get sold so I can do some travelling and meet up with ya!

LaDonna- How did your race go? We're waiting to hear from you!

Hi Jackie!

Dallas- I'm glad to hear you were able to do a meet up with the Chicago travelling cheetahs!

I think I'm about caught up.

Going to head downstairs now for some HSC:eek: Catch up on chores and then nap for work later tonight:eek:

Good morning Cheetahs!

Karen - Thanks for the tip on Bear Naked sample. Will check it out. Hope that calf feels better.

Gloria - Yay for the DOMS I think! Hope it's not too bad. Have a good run.

Cathy - So glad you had fun in Chicago and most of all running the marathon. So proud of you for setting the goal and achieving it. Love that Chicago pizza too. Have a safe trip home.

Wendy - Glad you're still alive girl! Congratulations to your finishing!! So proud of you for pushing through despite of the TOM problems. Glad Shelly was there to encourage you. You deserve a good rest day.

Dallas - Congratulations to DD and DS on doing their best in their games. Ouch on the sunburn!

Shelly - Enjoy the new dining set! Sounds like a busy day for you after the race. Congratulations on the 18 miler yesterday! You and Wendy rock! Have a good workout!

Safe travel to all cheetahs travelling today.

I did speedwork this morning - 8x400. Got in 4.5 miles. Finished up with GS Chest & Triceps Super Sets premix, abs and some stretching. I'm whipped. Can't believe my legs are not too sore from Saturday's run. Will probably do some foam rolling on the hamstrings later today. Want to keep them in shape.

Well, I have people in working on the sound system and wireless internet today. Will talk everyone later. Enjoy your day!

Hey cheetahs. My half went pretty good. My right foot is crying. PF is acting up majorly. I ended up at 2:08. Not quite what I wanted but it was my first try. I put a total recap over in the PEEPS check in. :D
Hey Wendy, I was thinking about the Nashville Marathon. Is that too far from you? I am taking the whole week off to just stretch and decide what I want to do next.
Congrats to everyone who ran this week-end. I read all of the posts and it is just amazing. I also want to say that Cathy you popped into my mind when I was on mile 11. I'm not sure why but you popped in there and I though to myself, I wonder how Cathy is doing! You gave me just a lil push. Thanks girl! ;)
