:::CHEETAHS:::Monday

wt-i saw this recipe for potassium broth in gillian's book. i don't know how good it tastes (haven't made it yet, but have all the ingredients), but it has a lot of nutrients. i really should try it...

Potassium Broth
(Always wash all produce thoroughly, but no need to peel the skins if you are going organic)

Ingredients:
2 large potatoes
2 carrots
1 cup red beets (optional)
4 celery stalks with leaves
1 cup parsley
1 cup turnips
A pinch of cayenne, to taste

Use stainless steel utensils and pots. Fill a large saucepan with approximately 1.8L (3 1/2 pints) of water. Slice the vegetables directly into the water-never leave your veggies sitting around waiting for ages. Bring them to a boil, then reduce the heat. Cover and cook on a low temperature (a very light simmer) for 2 hours or so. Strain the vegetables and drink only the broth.

who knows?! maybe it's worth a try! :)

Hello again, cheetahs! :)

Wendi :: yeah, I find the extra shock absorption through the SuperFeet makes a difference to me. I think this new problem I am experiencing might be a result of increased mileage and perhaps pressure from the bunion, which has gotten a little worse over the years. Whatever's going on, this leg or foot is a little jacked up somehow *lol*, so if I can find the right combination to make running a little easier (like I did with the skis), then I think it could be worth a little hassle. :) You are getting plenty of potassium there. Nice! I do like veggies, but I tend to reach for fruit more. Do you take a multi-vitamin?

Jackie :: Did you and DBF do anything special this weekend?

Judy :: sorry it's been a rough day. You got a helluva speedy run out of it--great going! I've been thinking of your friend. I hope he's doing better.

Gloria :: is this the friend whose DD just came back from China? A few years back when I taught sixth grade (this was when the war in Iraq had just begun), my students and I adopted a couple of soldiers, whom we wrote to and sent care packages. Such young guys. It was worrisome, and these were people I didn't even know! I can only imagine what it must feel like to have a loved one deployed. How long will he be in training? Hope you enjoyed your run.

Lorie/WT :: good job keeping your hands outta the candy dish. I am doing really well with the nutrition software and feel better than I have in weeks. Thanks for the potassium recipe. Let me know what you think when you try it. I just made the corn & black bean salad on the Diet & Nutrition forums. Very tasty!...congrats on the new laptop!...I have caught a bit of that show. Will have to check out her book.

Karen :: glad you found the nutrition software. A lot of folks are having trouble getting to it.

Was refreshing to get back to HSC this morning. Hadn't done that one in a while.

Got a minute to stop in and say HI!

Jackie - It looks like you had a nice relaxing weekend...you need one of those every now and again. Fantastic workout today, though! I hope your Monday wasn't too crazy at work.

Judy - Sorry you had a bit of a rough weekend. Totally understand the cleaning purge thing. Glad that your very speedy run lifted you up some...love how that happens:). WOW, 18 holes=6 miles?!?!? Yeah, definitely NOT a rest day. Hope things calm down for you soon and you are able to regroup by tomorrow.

Gloria - You are such a big hearted soul! I hope you were able to get that run in today. I know it was probably the least of your concerns yesterday, but did you happen to catch who won NFNS? I fell asleep and missed it...cuz that's *never* happened before .

Lorie - I thought his name might have come from a marking or something. Good luck with the "detox"...sounds like a good plan! Great job avoiding the candy...for me it's PB YUMMY! Killer workout girl!

Cathy - Glad you had a blast with HSC...I pull that one out when I feel like doing a little bit of everything and it always fits the bill. That was a wonderful idea to send care packages to the troops...I can't imagine how that must have brightened their day. I haven't had the need to take any kind of vitamins/supplements. I periodically use Fitday to check and see how I'm doing on an average day and I either meet or *way* exceed all the DV for everything *except* calcium. However, because of my frequent kidney stone issues, I've been advised by my chiro (VERY into nutrition) NOT to take supplemental calcium. It has to do with the chemical structure of most commercial calcium. There is one certain type that has a particular crystalline shape that IS safe for me to take but it would cost me about $75/month...no thanks. I'm *usually* pretty close (80-90% DV) so I just go with that. If I do find that I've been "bad" I will breakdown and supplement but I try not to do that too often. The pain of stones just isn't worth it to me.

Gonna go get dinner on the table and enjoy my last few hours of freedom before heading back to work tomorrow. Have a good night Cheetah babes!
