***CHEETAHS***Happy Friday, 9/8

Cathlete
Happy Friday, everyone~

I think I'm gonna resist the urge to run again this afternoon and instead do KM + GS BSB. My legs feel good at the moment, but four days in a row of running might re-aggravate the problem. So I'd rather err on the side of caution. Besides, I wanna try KM now and feel the pain!

Adri, it could be a hydration issue or maybe even just something you ate that didn't agree with you.

Colleen, I am still up at that hour usually, but last night I was feverishly writing a paper.

Hi to all other cheetahs...I will be back in later to catch up.

-Cathy :)

Hello :)

Cathy- Did your paper get written? I like KM too and after4 days of running changing up the routine might be a good idea

Adri- Sorry aobut your poor WO. Perhaps today will bet better! :)

Today will be 5 or 5and a half miles with some rolling hills. Then all PT leg stretches.

Shelly the leg exercises are all for glute medius. They basically use it as a stabilizer.

For example I have to balance on one leg like a flamingo for 30 seconds 3 times per leg. Then there are two variations on that where I rotate my hips from 10 o'clock to 2 o'clock in the flamingo position. (30 seconds 3X per side) In the third variation I oscillate up and down (small squat)in the same position (30 seconds 3X per side)

There are leg abductors like Cathe does in many floor work DVD's
There are these almost one legged bend over squats concentrating on keeping the hips level. I hope this makes sense. There are more but I won't bore you.

Good morning cheetahs

Cathy...yes, definitely a Garmin fan...I can't wait to use it today now that I have the data pages showing the things I want to see! Good luck with KM today...

Judy..those look like great leg exercises!

Wendy...you got your stroller!!! Awesome!! I'm so glad work was better yesterday...:)

Elaine...did I mention I love 24...:)...yes and my Garmin!!! Your last 20 coming up. I think you are quite prepared. And then a nice relaxing taper...

Jennifer...I am in Calif with you. I get up about 4:45-5:00.

Adri...I have run with a few different types of HR monitors. I wanted the Garmin as it has GPS capabilities so I can see how far I've traveled as I run alot of trails that are not marked. The Garmin also has a HR monitor and a calorie counter (I think the calorie thing is a bit off myself) I do have a bit of glute DOMS...hope you had a good workout yesterday. Sorry about the cramping though...not sure what it could be?

Shelly...I had a crown fall off one time!! Not a pretty site. I'm glad you got yours fixed for free! Enjoy the seminar with your nursing buddies...Yes, the download feature on the Garmin is so cool. I have so many training logs....:)

Christine...did I tell you the new 305 Garmin has better sensitivity to running in trees?? So it tracks in those condition alot better than the older ones...:)..I can imagine those young kids could get bored easily with the boxes and stuck indoors...I like thunderstorms too, especially with lightning...

Laurie...good workout yesterday. Sounds like thre run was fun. You know honestly, I have used so many different toys in all the years I have run, but the Garmin is amazing and I only know of a few of the things it is capable of.

Natalie...tapering is always a good idea before a longer event. Saves your legs...:)...18 more days, how exciting...

Jess...its good not to have any real strict goals for your 1st marathon. I think you will do great. And I agree...try hard not to get sucked up into going to fast in the first half...

I'll be doing abs and a 5 mile Garmin run...:)...then some shoulders and tris if I have time.

Have a great day...:)

Good Morning Cathy, Judy and all cheetahs that follow!:)

It's upper body weights plus a run in the park with my running friend for me today.:)

Cathy, I find that anything beyond 2 days in a row of running begins to cause me pain. I learned that quick when I went to a/c and went waaay overboard w/my running! I ran 4 days in a row and thought I'd die by the time it was over with! LOL Definately smart to put the brakes on and give your body the rest it needs.

Judy, There were rolling hills in the 5k I didn't end up running. They are tougher then they look! Atleast for me they were!}(

Cathy, Yes, it's a jogging stroller I got. I am going to let DH put it together so I have to wait. I'd probably screw it all up! LOL I can't wait though!

Christine, Oh if you have an elevator to use then you'd better run girl!:p }(

ETA: Hi Carole! We were posting at the same time!

So my body must be changing....I was never a short cycle TTOM person and they were never heavy or last for very long. I used to get bad cramps as a teen but that subsided years ago. For many years now I have always gotten short, light and almost if not completely crampless TTOM's. Well last month I got it and it was AWFUL and now I have it again-waaay early and again, it's pretty awful! I felt so crummy last night from it that I went to bed at 8:30!!! :-( If I end up having to deal with this every month now I'm going to be uber pist off! Sometimes being a woman just bites, ya know!? :7 :7 :7

Good Friday morning, Cheetahs!! Lazy cheetah here today- I love rest days!! I needed it too, I was just exhausted last night, I think partly from driving & of course from being up so early running all week! It starts to hit me by Thurs night how tired I am. ;-)

Allison's first real day of preschool (or pretty school as she calls it) this morning. She's all excited, she is wearing a skirt of course. (she picked it out!) She goes from 9 - 11:15 & I think I'll come home & CLEANMAX while she's gone. After the marathon I might start switching my Fridays to running at that time alone!! BTW, I'm going to need some help making a rotation after the marathon. I've never done a real rotation, I've always kind of done what I feel like! I think it might be good for me. I'll take a little time off after the marathon, just mainly do some walking, biking, & pilates, stretching while my muscles recover and then I'll be ready to hit the weights hard!

Oh, and today is *V* day for Greg!! His appt is at 3- wish him luck!!

Ok, better get going. I haven't even showered yet! :p Have a great Friday!

Hugs,

Good Day Ladies:) I'm doing a sprint here to get out the door for a client in 25 minutes:eek: No run today, I wanted to loosen up my legs a bit so I did the step combos from IMAX2, FUN, FUN, FUN:7 I fit in an hour of yoga which is why I'm running late but it was worth it!!

Wendy, I feel for you Honey, as the Mom of 3 Girls we often talk about the fact that as girls/women we never really settle into our ever changing bodies. The ebb and flow of hormones is something that we often feel we are at the mercy of but in spite of the bad days we LOVE being Girls!!:) Hope you have a better day today...

Hello to all you fab Cheetahs! TGIF!!!

Take Care
Laurie

Good morning!

Today I'll be doing PUB and 45 minutes on my elliptical.

Carole, Yep, one more 20 miler to go but I'll do that after this weekend. Four more weeks to go until the actual marathon and I am looking forward to it. Then I'll need to set my sites on the next thing to train for but I haven't thought of what yet......

Jess, My DH when through "V" day when our 5 year old DD was a few months old. I was almost 42 when she was born and we certainly didn't want any surprises and this seemed like a sure fire way to avoid that! At the consult the MD told us that my DH would be given valium but when we went for the actual appointment he was all out of it!! My DH did just fine....Sat around with a bag of frozen peas the rest of that day then up an at 'em after that.
I took a look at the web site for your marathon. It looks gentle enough, one hill at the 3rd mile and flat for the rest of it! (yeah right! It's 26.2 miles for gosh sakes!!! LOL!). You'll do great and I'll betcha this won't be your last!

Wendy, The older I get the better those female things become. Anyway, that helps explain why you said you were in a horrible mood the other day!! LOL!! Have you put your jogging stroller together yet?

Hi Cathy, Judy, Laurie and everyone else who stops by today!

Hey laides.

I just sent an email to my mom and a few friends about the race on the 23rd as I'd like a cheering section.:+ I am trying to convince my mom and my best friend to enter as walkers. Wish me luck!}(

>
>Jennifer...I am in Calif with you. I get up about 4:45-5:00.
>

Wow, you are my hero!! :)

I only get up at 4:45 when I'm doing my buddy runs on Thursdays! Otherwise, I get up at 5:30 (well, the alarm goes off at that time, but I atually roll out of bed at 6 or 6:15 ;)).

So sorry this'll be a short note again, guys--gotta get into work early today, so gotta rush!

Tomorrow's my last run before the half. I'm very excited :). And also nervous, since I'm still getting my stamina back after this nasty cold. Hopefully I'll be ok, since it's a 4-5 mile run max. *fingers crossed*

Jennifer

Thanks, Elaine! I'll make sure to let him know that! Yep, I've got the frozen peas in the freezer ready for him! ;-) Greg has a high pain tolerance anyway & isn't your typical whiny man even when sick so I'm sure he'll come out of it w/ flying colors!

Yes, the marathon doesn't look too hilly & looks like a fun course!! I grew up not too far away & know the area pretty well so it will be fun! I'm looking forward to not so many hills, that alone should make me faster since we train w/ lots of hills around here. I'm not so sure about it not being my last, but my running buddies are already trying to convince me to do Chicago next year (it's the 30th anniversary & I'll be 30 next year...) So... we'll see! I really like the half distance, not as much training but still a good distance!

Good luck w/ your next 20 miler, I'm sure you'll do great!! I did my 21 miler last weekend & am glad to have it out of the way!! Just 12 miles tomorrow, then 8 next weekend & then it's the BIG day!

Have fun w/ PUB, I did that one this week too!

Hugs,

Wendy ~ ITA w/ Laurie!! I swear I've never had a *normal* schedule anyway, but after nursing 3 kids my body has never been the same!! After I finally got AF after Allison was almost a year old I never can predict when it'll show up! (although I'm hoping it will be soon so I won't have it for the marathon!) Lately though, I've been having it every TWO weeks!! Now THAT sucks. Before that, I would skip a few months (even skipped up to 5 mos, but my Dr. wasn't concerned). Now though, I get terrible zits on my chin, crave pretzels & chocolate, and just get crabby for a couple days!! (which makes me think she's showing up soon!! :p )

And good luck w/ your race, I hope you get a good cheering section!!

Hugs,

Good morning ladies!

Just a quick check-in and later I will be back. Yesterday I did the viper and it was HARD!!!! It is funny how we think just cause we can run 7 or 8 miles that other workouts will be really easy. Well, I got a kick in the pants. I did the viper on an 8 inch step and I was struggling. Anyway, today I am going to run outside for 6.5 miles with my hubby. It is funny, we used to go to breakfast on friday mornings since he works at home on that day, but now we run instead. It is all good!!!!

I hope everyone is great and I will check-in later to chit chat.

Cheers!

Susan

Good Afternoon lovely ladies!

Took a brisk walk with my sister and niece Avery (in jogging stroller) today instead of running (I was sore this morning – must have been the boxes after all!). Then I came back and did P90X Chest and Back – the first ½ an hour. Great workout for on the road because all you need is a band and the video. In every video there’s someone who’s using the band. It’s great. Now it’s more boxes, although I may let my sister and her DH do that while I take my nephew to the local Aquarium. He’s 4 and no longer naps – so someone is tasked with entertaining him during the day.

Cathy – I think you’re smart for listening to your body. Hope you enjoy KM!

Judy – sounds interesting!! Also sounds like these will strengthen the legs and hips. Great! Hope it works well for you!

Carole – yes, you did tell me! I will be getting one – I had been looking, but my SR2000 was cheaper… I just need to get a job! :p Enjoy your run!

Laura – GOOD LUCK ON THE HALF!!! Where are you running? Sorry if you told us already, I did not see it!

Wendy – It’s still three flights – you know I think I’m superwoman. I hate finding out I’m not! I woke up this morning so stiff that I felt 80 years old! Oh well… That which does not kill us makes us stronger! And yes, I know what you mean about TTOM. I'm a crab for days. But even with that, I’m glad I’m a girl. Men are such men…

Laurie – yes I love Imax 2. Glad you enjoyed your workout!

Jess – not long to your marathon – eh? You’ll do wonderful! Give Allison a big hug for me! Hope her day was wonderful! And sending good vibes for Greg!!

Hey Elaine! We’re getting close, too, aren’t we – to our events – although you’re running the full! You’ll do very well too!

Susan – Oh I’m with you on that one! I was doing heavy weight work (P90X) and running, and thought Power Hour would be simply. I had DOMS for 3 days! It’s all in what we’re used to. But Viper is fun, too, isn’t it? I love that you run with your DH on Fridays! That’s so great!

christine I might run a half at the end of this month. I am not sure just yet if I am gonna do it or not.

I only ran 3miles this morning, the legs where feeling pretty heavy today.

talk with everyone later

Good luck if you decide to do it, Laura!! I hate those runs where your legs don't want to cooperate!

Hugs,

Well, Allison loved her first day of school! It's such a gorgeous day. I did some cleanmax this morning & got caught up on a few things around here. Then we played outside & I decided to be a nice wife & mow the lawn. I didn't figure Greg would feel like bouncing along on the riding mower after his procedure!! :p

I decided to do Baron Baptiste's Yoga for athletes, I like how it stretches out my hips!

Nothing big planned for the evening, I think my dh will just feel like taking it easy! ;-)

I get to sleep in a bit for our longer run tomorrow, we aren't going til 6AM! And it's only 12 miles, wow I'm loving this taper!!

Have a great night!

Oh, and of course I updated my picture trail w/ a couple pics of the big preschool girl today!!

Hugs,

Susan ~ That is so great that you can run w/ your hubby!! Mine won't run, but we do enjoy biking together when we can! I had that w/ KickMax the other day- DOMS in my glutes that I didn't even have after running 21 miles! Cathe will work ya & work ya good! :p

Hope you have a great day!

Hugs,

It always makes me feel better:) You guys are soo great!! I love yall:*;-) And thanks for all the kind words you all said. I feel better today, but I just dunno what is was. Maybe Cathy was right. Had a great run with the Garmin today. I am finally getting under a 10 min pace so I think the Elliptical is helping me get my speed back...:)
