CHEETAHS check in for wednesday 6-14-06

Cathlete
good morning everyone!

Today is a rest day for me. I had bootcamp class lastnight and my legs are a little sore from all the walking lunges and leg presses she made us do. I didnt decide about the rest day until I woke up this morning, feeling sore and all ,I thought it would be a good idea not to run this morning.

my son has his baseball practice tonight and we also have private showing of DH grandma tonight and then tomorrow we have to drive 2hrs for her burial in alexandria, ohio and then come home for my sons baseball game that night. It's been a crazy week at work as well as my personal life.

sounds like everyone had another great workout day yesterday. I will eventually get another long run in after everything is cleared up with the bronchitis and all. Carole doing these long runs makes me want to go run a long one. Maybe next weekend. My friend marci and our friend kevin just finished a half iron man race last sunday. We call him coach because he runs the long runs with us and puts us threw the works. I have learned alot from him and marci. He is like the energizer bunny but he has been running since high school so that makes a difference comapred tosomeone like me only running 2yrs.

anyway, sorry to keep rambling.Hope everyone has a great day and a great workout today. Keep on running!!:)

Good Morning Laura and all who follow.

Laura: I hope DH's grandmother's funeral goes smoothly. You are lucky to have running buddies. Part of the reason I really wanted to take the running class is to hopefully find someone that I can run with on a regular basis (or atleast once in a while!:p ).

Laura, Mattea, Jess, Marcia, Elaine, and Cathy: I posted something to all of you in yesterday's thread kind of late last night...last post of the evening so I don't know if anyone read it. This is just a head's up for y'all!:)

So I still have a bit of U/B DOMS from that killer circuit I did the other day but not too bad so I'll be doing Ripped this morning. I have a 5:30pm hair appointment tonight...I think when I get out of there I'm gonna head right over to the gym for a short easy run. I'm not worried about my hair getting messed up as I usually don't care for how they style it anyway. :p This run will probably be the only one before o/d run # 4 this weekend...9 minutes...YIKES!

Happy Hump Day!:7

Hi gals......

Laura: My thoughts are with you, DH and your famiies - funerals are always a tough one and close friends and family can make a huge difference. Take care.

Wendy: Hey girl, yeah, I believe we are at a similar place in our running, too. I'm so glad to have the company as well, makes it so much more fun! :)

Today is cross training and/or 2 mile run. I'll probably get some time on my elliptical after the run. I love it - when I think of a 2 miler that sounds so easy and a drop in the bucket. I'm so glad I am finally at this point. I'm not sure if anybody remembers, but I posted a week or so ago about getting to that point where 2, 3 and 4 miles were a drop in the bucket. Well - I'M THERE............! Yesterday my 3.5 was great and seemed harmless and I was just beaming with delight. Now, if I can only get my feet to quit being so sore at the end of my runs, I would have it made. I sure hope I don't have the wrong shoes, because I spent good money on them and I'd hate to see that go out the door.

Have a great workout everyone.

Marcia.

Marcia: Great job on your running! Doesn't it feel good when something you thought was so hard at first becomes easier and easier?:) Did you buy your shoes at a running store? If you did, they should be the right shoes for you and if they are not, I would think you should go back and tell them....Aaah heck, I'm basically saying to go back and complain but I was trying to be nice!:p LOL

G'morning Cheetahs!!

This Cheetah did NOT want to get up this morning, but knowing that Melissa would be here at 5 got me outta bed. We did 5 miles w/ some hills. My legs didn't feel like cheetah legs today, so I only did a little speedwork. I don't want my legs too tired for Sat!

I think we'll head to the pool today. I got all of my errands done y'day & can take it easier today!

Have a good one!

Hugs,

Laura- I hope all goes ok w/ the funeral. We have one to go to on Friday- it's always hard. Have a safe trip & it sounds like you're busy!!! I hope you continue to feel better too, I'm glad that you went to the Dr. & got some meds to help!! And it sounds like a fun bootcamp class too!!

Wendy- I'm so excited that you're going to do this class & 5K. I swear, you'll be hooked like I was!! And yes, I saw your post from last night! I like doing a mish-mosh of a workout too, changes things up a bit!

Marcia- you're doing great!!! I remember that feeling of thinking I'd never be able to do 5 miles w/out killing myself & now 5 miles seems like an *easy* run! I honestly don't like running only 2-3 miles, if I'm going to make an effort to go run I'd rather do at least 4-5. Good shoes are very important- take my advice!! I've had the black toenails from my shoes not being big enough in the toebox (lost 3 toenails!!), and had tendonitis. Go to a good running store & take the shoes that you run in for them to see how you're wearing them. Speaking of, I"m about due for new shoes!!

Everyone else who will post after me- have a great day!!

Good morning cheetah runners! I'm finishing up a work stretch and can't wait to leave and hit my favorite running trail. I'm backing off on the intensity for a while. Today will be just 3 miles, then my nap. This afternoon will probably be a nice sweaty kickboxing routine :)

Laura- It really sounds like your on the road to recovery. I'm glad you're taking a rest day. Best wishes to you and your family during this time.

Wendy- It's great that you decided to take the initiative and go with the running classes. I'm willing to bet there will be plenty of other people there on their own hoping to hook up with someone. I get pretty lonely on my runs also but it's very difficult to connect with someone... I live kind of out in the boonies and my work schedule is so erratic it's too hard to commit to a regular meeting with a running group. I'm so happy for you that your are so fired up and energized :7 You'll have a great time for your first 5k!

Marcia- You are making tremendous progress! Give yourself a huge pat on the back girl! Yes, it's quite a landmark when you can call 3 miles an easy run!

Jess- Sounds like another PR in the making for you this weekend! Having a friend waiting for you is a great motivator...I'm jealous!

I'll check back later in the day. Hi to everyone:7 :7 :7

Good morning cheetahs

Laura...I have had rhinitis before...yuk! I hope the antibiotics will clear it all up! You have had a busy week. I hope the funeral goes smooth. It's nice to have the support of so many athletic friends Laura!! You deserve a rest day...:)

Wendy...way to go on the class!! http://bestsmileys.com/signs16/19.gif[/img] Have fun at the gym today!

Marcia...I am glad the shorter runs are getting easier for you...that is a great sign..:)

Jess...good idea not to push to hard today with the 5K on Sat. Save the enrgy in those cheetah legs...:)

Mattea...I do so like that smiley....about my MIL....I've been married 25 years....so its a looong story...I'll have to email you...http://smilies.sofrayt.com/eng/help%20wanted4.gif[/img]

Karen...hill training to me would depend on the hills in the upcoming half. Hill training consists of running hard uphill and jogging downhill, and repeating that a number of times. Not sure if there is a specific distance for the uphill to be?

Elaine...is that the Pit River rec Area near Fall River Mills? If it is, I might have to come see you...:)..it is not very far from me...:)

I am doing P90X Back & Biceps, abs and a 5 or 6 mile run. It is a bit cooler as we got rain last night!!

Have a great day...

Hi Cheetahs,

I've been swamped and not able to check in. The end-of-the year rush is on.
I stuck with my swim plus Core Synergistics on Monday. Did a 5-mile recovery run yesterday and some floor work, but am feeling under the weather. I did some of PLB this a.m. to see if it's DOMS causing me to feel stiff, achey. But I think I am sick with something viral.
So I'm taking it easy, seeing if I feel better in a few hours.

Quick hellos:
Wendy- I'm so excited you signed up for the class. I bet you'll love it. Amazing workout you did a few days ago with all that Kickboxing!!

Jess -- I run in early, early a.m., too, so I know what you mean about figuring out how warmly to dress. Sometimes it's cooler than you think after a few miles (this is responding to something you posted awhile ago.)

Laura-- my thoughts are with you and your family about your loss. I hope things go as well as they can -- and am so glad you are feeling better, health-wise. Glad you got some good info from the doc.

Elaine-- how's your training going? Sounds like you have a good schedule planned for your training, keeping your kids busy and keeping up with life. I'm in awe of all the marathoners here!

Carole -- How are you feeling since Sunday? I hope you feel better. Is P90x back & biceps and the other upper body workouts harder than Shoulders & Arms? Last week, I ended up working my chest & back on Saturday, because I felt like Shoulders & Arms wasn't enough.
Yay for the rain!

Mattea -- MIL in the car for too long going to a family event? you've gotten some good advice, re: pepper spray. My DH's thought, as his Mother is a lot to deal with, is to consider packing duct tape as a back-up tool. He said if he was in the car with his mother for that long, he'd get the kind of tape that has extra thickness for high winds!!:+
Another trick I have for dealing with my MIL when I am exhausted, is trying to pick up on her repetitive speech and just comment on the format, not the content.
Example: most of what my MIL says revolves around these themes with surprising regularity:
1. I'm great
2. You may think you're great, what with your Vegan eating and exercising and fancy ideas about parenting. But you're not.
3. I've done everything you've done and more and I'm better
4. Some day, dahling, you may realize how great I am.
5. Have you noticed I'm great?

I have found most content of her speaking revolves around these ideas. I have five verbal curtsies I can tolerate. My DH taught me this and it works like a charm, when I get tired of her blather... e.g. Curtsy One, slight bend in the knee (Painful to get started, but it works like a charm) : "Wow, you are so right about that..." }( ranging to Curtsy Level Five: "I am learning a lot from your experience. Thank you. ".:p My DH helped me focus: the goal is to get her to shut the yapper.
And when in doubt: PUNT to the DH. It's him who got you into this!!! Remember, he's worth it and relative to all the time you have in life, time with her is really short.

Marcia-- how were the veggies post run?

Cathy -- your trip sounds fun, you Cathe imposter, you!! :+ My 7th grader's class picnic is tomorrow. I can tell all the teachers are really pumped to be done with school.

Judy -- I like your idea of mixing weights with running and then having a light day. Are you feeling more recovered for your next run doing it this way?

Christine -- how sweet of your husband to make plans for the two of you! It sounds like a great trip and more importantly, a sweet gesture on his part!

Gayle -- sorry about the rash, but glad you are feeling better about your workouts. Please post your training plan. I'm really interested to see how you organized things. how is summer going with your kids so far? Are they out of school yet?

Karen-- congrats on your gains in distance and speed! You are doing great! Injury free and increasing your running. Excellent! WTG!

Got to run. Hi to everyone else: Pamela, Thomasina and all other terrific Cheetahs!
have a great day.

Barb

:) :) :)

We've mised you Barb!! Sorry you are a bit under the weather. I am feeling alot better these days. Funny thing it turns out most of the hairdressers I work with all seemed to have a touch of the flu Sunday???....bizarre...I loved your way of dealing with your MIL....mine is a bit different than yours but the distance helps us..:)...Back & Biceps is tough as you do more pull-ups and chin-ups...but the bicep work is fun...hope you feel better soon...

Hi Carole
Thanks for the get well wishes. Interesting that coworkers were sick, too. Thanks for the info about back and biceps.

Shelly-I think we were posting at the same time. Hope work finishes up in lightning speed and you can get on to more important things. A nap sounds good!
that's where I'm heading!

;-)

Barb

Hi, ladies. My usual check-in and quickly check-out. Summer days are here again, FULL SPEED AHEAD! We spent all day in the pool yesterday at a neighbor's house, then baseball at night.

This morning, my workout was a 3 mile tempo run, followed by PUB and a nice stretch. I've got Mr. Yummy Pants on tap for later this week. EXCITED! LOL

You ALL are doing fantastic! 5 miles being easy......Yeah, I remember wehn it seemed impossible! A friend who's doing her first marathon called me, and she was very nervous about her first long run this past weekend. I actually gave her some sound advice, and it's so true:
"It's amazing what your mind and determination can make your body do!"

Gotta go!

Cheetah Gayle, checking OUT!

HI Everyone-

I got limited time to respond like Gail. But I did get in a 7 mile run and will move on to upper body when I sign off here.

Laura- I hope you get through the funeral services and move on. Blessing to your husband and his family and Grandma

Barb- I am finding I like the heavy /light day alternating . And I just read something similar to that on the runners world web page in their 25 rules for runners list. I *think* it helps me do better on my runs to have a light day in bewteen. I am 45 years young and a new runner, but not new to high impact cardio. I am trying to make my joints last as long as I do!

Good morning everyone!

Today my workout will be GS Legs floor, between 100 and 200 walking lunges, some time on the elliptical and some of PlyoX. I haven't done walking lunges in a while and I always get bad DOMS when I first do them so I might keep it toned down today.

Laura, I hope the antibiotics get you back to feeling 100% soon. Enjoy your rest day today! You definately deserve some rest after all you've been through this week. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Wendy, A Labor Day 5K is perfect because I am sure by that time you will feel totally prepared and your confidence will be high. I think you are absolutely going to love working with a group of runners. There is almost no end to the different variations of training and you will absolutely continue to see improvement for a long time to come which is the best motivator. I'm willing to bet lots of money that you've got a head start on the group you've joined since you are in fantastic shape already! I'm looking forward to your future reports! :)

Marcia, What kind of soreness are you feeling in your feet? Could it be because you are fatigued? I know my feet(among other things) get sore at the end of the longer runs. In any case, it sounds like you are doing terrific!

Jess, Sounds like you are on track for a good 5K this weekend. Have fun at the pool with your little cuties!:)

Hi Shelly, I am still amazed at your energy level! I can't imagine doing shift work then getting in a workout.

Carole, Not having ever been to the Pit River place we are going I can't really answer your question about where it is. Here is what I got from the web site:
Camp Pit River is approximately 60 miles east of Redding near the Pit River and about three miles southeast of Big Bend. From Highway 299, turn left on Big Bend Road which is approximately four (4) miles from Montgomery Creek. Take Big Bend Road for approximately seventeen (17) miles, then turn right on Haggin Flat Road, and go 1.7 miles to Camp Pit River.
If it is close to you then maybe we could get together for a run since I'll need to do that to keep up with my marathon training.

Barb, Training is going well. DH and I went to the track to run 800s last night and I was happy with how I did. The trick for me is to not do too much and end up injured.... I hope you are feeling better soon. Pepper spray might be too harsh for my MIL but the duct tape idea is PERFECT!!!

Gayle and Judy, It can take a while to say hi to everyone individually, especially if you lay around in bed until 7 am (which is 10 am to you eastern gals) I think that's pretty much long after you all have checked in here. Sounds like you are both doing great even if you are busier than a two..... Uh, never mind!:7

Hi Karen, See you when you come back later!

Happy Hump Day Cheetah Ladies!

I did Core Max # 2 and P90X Shoulders and Arms this morning. Missed my elliptical yesterday as my boss took me out to lunch (it was more social - he's a great guy). So today will be Cardio Coach #5 on elliptical over lunch. I was thinking of a run instead, but yesterday during the kpc drills I twinged my knee a bit and it's pestering me (not bad, just enough to let me know it's there) so I'm going to do the low-impact thing instead.

Laura - Good idea for the rest day. Take time and get those muscles happy again. I'll be thinking of you tonight and tomorrow. Bless you.

Wendy - Happy Hump Day right back at ya! You are really an animal! Those circuits you post would kill me!

Marcia - I think that's one of the greatest feelings in the world -- realizing that what once seemed impossible is now a walk (run?) in the park. You're doing so great!

Jess - Oh, I hear ya! Today the bed was so warm and comfy! Sounds like you had a great run, though. Good job!

Shelly - enjoy your run! I keep chuckling at the thought of you racing a mule. You HAVE to take lots and lots of photos!

Carole - we managed to skip the rain, here in San Jose, but it's cold this morning. Where I live it's warmer, but driving to work (I work in Fremont) I ran into the "marine layer" (fog to the rest of the world) and had to close my sun roof as it was sooo cold!

Barb - oh, I hope you're feeling better! Nothing like a virus to make your workouts even tougher.

Gayle - enjoy your date with Mr. Yummy Pants!

Judy - sounds like you had a great run!

Karen - have fun at the library!

Elaine - I'm not a fan of walking lunges either, which is why I force myself to do them. Figure if I hate them so much, they must be doing some good. Either that or I'm just crazy... :)

Thomasina - MISS YOU!!! Where are you girl? How's DD doing? How's your DS's trip going?

Hi Cheetahs,

Just a quick post to say hi. I'm not at home, but since I had my laptop with me I decided to do a quick "run by" :).

Laura, I'm so sorry about your dh's grandmother. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your husband as you mourn this loss.

Marcia, I lost 60 pounds with WW flex. However, recently I've been stuck. I am sick of counting points, but I don't seem to be able to stick within point totals when I switch to core. It is a great program though. I'm just tired of being so focused on food right now. Good luck with whatever you decide. They're both pretty good.

I haven't read any of today's posts, and none of yesterday's after about noon. Sorry! I'll get caught up later.

Yesterday was a 4 mile run, and I finally viewed Mr. YP. :) No time to actually try it because I had to leave for DD's basketball game, and after that DH and I had a birthday party/ Miami Heat party to attend. Lots of dancing after the game -- does that count too? )

Today I planned on getting back on track with getting my workouts complete in the am, but no such luck. My sis asked me to go with her to the Berlitz center to get info on learning another language. (That's where I am now btw.) So, later today is an easy 2-3 mile run and P90X Shoulders and Arms.

Hi Karen, Wendy, Carole, Sarah, Christine (that trip your dh planned sounds amazing!), Mattea, Judy, Cathy, Elaine, Barb, Thomasina, and Jess! (If I forgot anyone, it was unintentional and hi to you too! :)
Hi Gayle!

TTFN! :)
Pamela

Cheetahs!! (Hissing the "s" sound at the end, lol)

Laura-Enjoy the rest day! I've done that before, woken up and just thought, nope, not today, lol. You and your family will be in my thoughts tomorrow. Hope the meds clear things up for you.

Wendy-I'm still feeling the DOMs from my killer circuit as well, lol! What did we do to ourselves?:p What? Me not like my in-laws? Why Wendy, how could you even suggest such a thing? And don't be nervous, you are going to do GREAT! Just keep telling yourself, at least it's not plie jacks...

Elaine-Thanks for the in-law sympathy, lol. Sigh...

Marcia-So happy to hear that you've hit your first goal, light runs really feel like light runs! High five:)

Jess-After the mish mosh you did yesterday, as a BONUS workout:eek: I'd say you did great just to get up and go like a tired cheetah. Take it easy for Sat. We want a new PR ;-) Sub 24, sub 24, sub 24

Shelly-I'm so delighted to hear that you too are human (now I feel like you and Carole are both within reach:D A girl can dream can't she?) BTW, Camelback Mt. in Arizona was a Jeopardy question the other night and I knew the answer thanks to you! See, it's not just running tips that this thread is valuable for:+

Carole-I'd love to hear your long story, if someone as great as you is disliked by her MIL than I feel a little better. 25 years, wow, I don't know if 600 miles would be far enough, lol;-)

Karen-I think I just read that hill repeats are best done on something like a 200 meter hill and to just start with 3 of them and add on from there. They are not easy on the legs or the lungs so try out your driveway and see how it feels.

Barb-Hope you shake off whatever nasty thing has you feeling under the weather! ROTFLMAO!!! (See Carole's smiley from yesterday's thread!) Duct tape!! It's so simple, yet so brilliant}( But Barb you forgot, 6."I'm a nurse and there's nothing you can tell me that's new about anything." and 7. "Doctors are never wrong" Seriously some great practical advice there, those curtsies are probably going to be priceless in the years to come. Ordinarily I would leave most of it to DH, but he won't be there, he'll be off running a 5K!x( Maybe I'll just pretend to fall asleep?:p

Gayle-Great to hear from you! Enjoy Mr. YP!

Judy-Hi! Hope the 7 miles feels more like 4!

Pamela-Dancing always counts! Mr. YP is waiting...

Hi to Amy, Sarah, Chistine, Karin, Dallas, Thomasina, and any other lurkers or posters.

Today it is RAINING and since I haven't invested in the waders yet I stayed indoors for one of my fav mishmoshes. I do a 20-20-20 that is KM w/u and Blast Challenge
SJP Hi/Lo add on
SB Challenge and Blasts and Stretch. This comes in at almost exactly an hour and will leave you wiped!
I am so avoiding weight work this week and have no idea why:eek: I've only done what's in HSTA and HSC, somebody send me to my room with PUB or something, lol.
Mattea

Mattea - thank 20 20 20 mish mosh sounds fabulous! I'm going to have to try it! I keep forgetting about 10-10-10 - I could have done that this morning! Oh well, I need a good large elliptical session!

I won't even tell you ladies who have in-law issues that my MIL lives in India (I've seen her twice in my life) and does not speak English... She will talk my ear off while I'm there, but unless one of the kids (or DH) is there as a translator, I have no clue what she's saying.

Pamela - YES dancing counts!! It's FUN exercise. And thanks. I'm looking forward to it.

OOOOHHHH Christine!! Don't tease!! India?!?! Tell me again about how you can't even understand a word she says:D I thought you might like 20-20-20 knowing how much you like the KM/KPC/CK mishmosh}(
Mattea
