*** Cheetah (runners) Eating Healthier?? 2/06/07 ***

Christine-THANK so much for that recipe.

Kristi-I follow the Weight Watchers food plan, so I don't count calories. I do, however, eat as clean as possible. I've been slowly getting my boys away from the processed stuff also. If there's going to be baked goods in my house, it's going to be homemade and not from a box (although, no offense to anybody that does use/eat that). I'm trying to get away from the processed flour, sugar, all that stuff also. Little bit at a time. Having said that, I do splurge now and then, but then I try to still make it a 'clean splurge'....like for my BDay Thursday (shhhhhh, don't tell, lol) we're going out to Carrabba's and I'm planning on getting my FAVE...grilled salmon with the zucchini/tomatoe/parmesan side. I also believe in allowing yourself a treat. It's human nature. lol

Hope this helps.

And, thanks for the input on the magazine. If we venture out in this cold weather, I'll get it soon!

Kristi - I think you have a very good question there. Calories are important. You cut calories, you'll lose weight. But, I have found that after two weeks of 99% clean eating, that I can actually eat more calories and still lose weight. I think it's because my body is saying, "Ahh, at least, I'm getting what I need in the form I need it. I don't need to hold on to this other stuff any more as I no longer need it." Plus, the kinds of food you eat makes a difference in how you feel. Does that mean you can't cheat - heck no - but plan your cheats so you can control portion.

Post-workout snack ~ Mochaccino protein shake w/ light soymilk, apple w/ NM PB

Lunch ~ Broccoli frittata (w/ 1/2 c. eggbeaters + 1 egg); salad w/ grape tomatoes + avocado + rasp. vinaigrette

And another 50 oz water. (I usually drink at least 120 oz a day)

Looks like we won't be making it to ice skating because of the weather, so I'll see what I can find for dinner. ;-)

I don't count calories either. I used to, but I found that it only drove me nuts. I'm a bit OCD about things, I just can't handle it!! ;-) I do have friends that use WW, but that's not for me either. It seems a lot of people that use WW (not you, Gayle!) eat really junky foods as long at they're in *point range*. A sandwich on white bread & FF pretzels just isn't a healthy lunch for me!

I'm with Christine, I find that if I'm eating healthier foods, my body responds a lot better. I just can't eat the sugars or white flours or my body goes nuts! (I call it my *white crack*, my body gets addicted to it so I just want to eat more!) So... I do splurge on occasion (cheesecake anyone?? }( ) but not often & I usually make myself feel so guilty after it that it's just not worth it to me. I do eat dark chocolate in very small quantities (Dove Dark promises are perfect!), so I don't feel deprived. HTH!

Hey gang:

I've actually eaten really good so far today - I'm surprising myself because I've fallen off the wagon so bad lately.x(

Breakfast:
Shredded Wheat with 1/2 banana
Other 1/2 banana with peanut butter

Snack:
light string cheese
Weight Watcher yogurt

Lunch:
Taco Salad
100 calorie Lorna Doon snack cookies

Snack:
???

Supper:
???

So far so good. I am going to hit the elliptical tonight or P90X if it's in the mailbox. :)

Take care, Marcia.

Afternoon snack (and I'm DONE til dinner!) ~ Oatmeal concoction (1/2 c. old fashioned oats, 1/4 c. Fiber one cereal, Tbsp. of flaxseed & wheat germ, couple walnuts, and couple Tbsp. cottage cheese (oh, and cinnamon of course!)

Another 30 oz water & cup of decaf coffee

Jess-I agree with the comment about quality of the calories! There are some days that I fall into that exact category. I have found, after being with WW for almost 3 years now, that I can still maintain a healthy weight as long as I'm in my points range, BUT I don't stay full as long and it just doesn't FELL RIGHT in my body to be eating something that I know isn't as clean as possible!

Here's today's menu for me:

Two cups tea with Light Vanilla Soy Milk

Breakfast: Steel Cut Oats w/ light vanilla soy milk

Lunch: Salad w/ pinto beans, corn, black olives, salsa and a touch of light sour cream

Snack - 1 cup Chili from last night

Dinner - Homemade corn chowder (lightened the recipe) and Veggie burger.

Dinner was leftovers again. I made taco soup this weekend (lean deer burger, onion, black & kidney beans, tomatoes, taco seasoning, etc) so I made taco salad out of it & had some baby carrots. I definitely got my veggies in for the day!

OK, made a quick post earlier. We thought the bath tub was leaking, but Greg figured out what was wrong. WHEW!! I could see $$$ going down the drain, literally!!!

I'll probably have a small snack in a bit & my usual cup of sugar free hot cocoa (made w/ skim milk, cocoa powder, splenda).

What kind of light soy do you drink? I really like the 8th continent light. I don't care for the silk light as well. My dd doesn't like it though, she likes the regular vanilla Silk which is fine because it's cheap for a 3 pack at Sam's! ;-) (she has a milk allergy)

Kristi,
I allow myself 2300 calories when I am trying to lose a few. That is just what works for me. I have actually gained weight when I have cut my calories below 2000.

Lunch I had

Amy's bean and cheese burrito with salsa and fresh tomatoes with fresh greens.

Snack-apple with pb
snack- bowl of life cereal

Dinner-chilli's low fat chicken pita with low fat black beans

snack tonight-green tea

It was not a perfect eating day, but a lot better than the past few.
