Check in wk 3/12-3/18

Well, not a great workout week for me, but it's the best I could do at the time. I'm excited today because I'm buying a stairmaster for my home. It's an inexpensive one, but I'm thrilled nonetheless. It will be so nice to have another option at home instead of just the treadmill and videos. I use the stairmaster at the fitness center at my office sometimes and love it. Now I can step on weekends too!!

Sunday rest
Monday 2.5 mile run
Tuesday Abs only from Bodymax
Wednesday 15 min. stairmaster
Thursday rest
Friday 2.5 mile run plus 15 min. stairmaster
Saturday PS Biceps, Abs only from MIS

Just got MIS on Friday. I've only done the ab section so far. I think I'm gonna love it. But then I love every Cathe tape so far. Can't wait for the new videos this summer!!!

You gals have a great week!!

Here I go again - what is a "Little Debbie"? I'm trying to avoid the Easter aisles in stores. The retailers just go from Christmas to Valentines to Easter candy!

I've been doing 2 weight training sessions with my sis each week & it was time for a change after doing the Wedding Tape since January. I'm limited because I only have one step & tall box. Plus I have to haul my weights upstairs right now or give the landscapers a show. Chose Firm Vol 1 (no step) & it was a mistake. Sis couldn't stand Susan Harris' voice & didn't like the tempo. She's right- the upper body moves tend to be rushed with limited range of motion. Cathe & Voight have spoiled her. So I pulled out Max Body Shaping (Tracy Long) for the next workout which was a more popular choice.

This was be kind to legs week for recovery:

Monday: Firm Vol 1 (no weight for floorwork)
Tues: Pilates
Wed: Spin; Firm Max Body Sculpting
Thurs: nothing
Friday: Firm Strength
Sat: Cycle 46 miles w/ DH
Sun: Walk/Trot w/ dogs for 40 min.

Got into a juvenile dual with another rider on Sat. I won }>! I had her on the climb, she passed back on the descent (aided by extra body mass I might add), & she didn't have a chance once we hit the flats where it's all leg. DH was quite irritated.

Have a good week everyone!
Debra

Little Debbie's are a regional brand of snack cake that is cheap. So you can pig out and have money left over for candy. I'm not sure what area of the country carries them, but they are great!!!! I can polish off at least half a box at a time, when I give myself permission to do that. Anyone who thinks they could beat me in an eating contest, just forget it now!!!1;-)

Ah, Little Debbie's

My Dad loved those Little Debbie's. After I moved out of the house (ironically, that's when he started calling me "Peaches" again, for the first time since I was six), my Dad would hide some Little Debbie's brownies in a special cookie jar. That way, they'd always be there whenever I would come over, instead of being consumed by my teenage brother.

Just got off working two weeks of overtime with fifth graders. Mostly hiking at work for physical activity, but now that the month-of-hell is over, I'm starting back with my beloved videos.

TUESDAY-FRIDAY: hiking at work
SATURDAY: CTX Kickbox to jump rope section; CTX biceps
SUNDAY: Crunch: The Next Step; CTX triceps

It's hard, but I'm trying to adhere to the getting-back-into-the swing-of-things advice on taking it easy at first. Even with really cutting the weights, I got some nice DOMS going on today. And boy, did I miss Cathe!

Hey Murph!

I can't wait for your trip to the Akron area. EricaH is also interested in meeting up with us. Any of you other Ohio fans out there, let me know if you would like to join us and I'll contact you when Murph lets me know!! No, Murph~I teach a program out of Michigan that choreographs the rouitnes for us and then we memorize them. We get all new routines every 10 weeks. I do tweak them at times if I don't feel comfy with a move or I like another move better but on the whole, they supply us with the music, notes and videos. I attend workshops to receive the materials. The muscle toning is my own work. I love to steal ideas from Cathe! How are you liking Pilates? I am trying very hard to keep it or Yoga in my rotation but it seems to go 1st. if I don't have the time. Great week 4 U!! Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Little Debbie Nutty Bars are sooooo good. Seriously, I could eat half a box of those things at one time...could eat the whole box, if DH isn't quick enough to grab and hide his share!

RE: Check in

Hey Murph!
The Precor is a glorified stair climber with about 10 different programs you can put in depending on what your pleasure is on that particular day, i.e. flats, hills, cross country, intervals, etc. Precor is the name of the company that makes these things. The thing I like about it is you can climb backwards which really works my quads. We have 4 of these at the fitness center where I work and they are popular. I once saw a post in here where someone mentioned they didnt feel as if they got a good workout on one of these. If you mix up the resistance, angles, programs, and your own output, you will get a damn good workout.

RE: Food Journal

I not really quite sure what triggers those Krplunks. But I like the idea of not fighting it and just working it in. Yes, ice cream is a HUGE trigger of mine(especially with marshmallow creme on top and cherries and hot fudge.....) Sorry, got off track there. I'm going to give your suggestion a try HB. Thanks for the encouragement and the advice! I'll let ya' know how it goes! Thanks again!

food budget

Aimee,

Here's a suggestion - put that sundae into your calorie budget. Obviously it shouldn't be in there too often, but I really like the nutritional advice that there are no forbidden foods, just ones that should be limited. Also look for a substitute. I love ice cream but I find that frozen yogurt satisfies the craving. It's hardly a health food, but compared to real ice cream, it's a winner.

I also use a food diary on occasion & find it curbs some bad habits. It's also a good tool to find out what you're eating, not just weight control. E.g. are you getting enough food w/ calcium or vitamin C?

RE: food budget

Hi Debra!! Yeah, I keep a food journal. It tells me everything! Calories, fat, carbs, vitamins and minerals..... all the good stuff. I like the food budget though, I'm going to give it a shot. My DH ONLY eats real ice cream, but I think I'll pick up a little thing of the frozen yogurt so I won't be tempeted to take a few bites of his. I'll let ya know how it works for me.

Thanks!!

RE: food budget

I've plugged this book before, but according to Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss, instead of one sundae with 3 scoops of "real" ice cream, 6 tsp of choc. syrup, 2 Tbl. of chopped nuts, 2 Tbl. ofr whiped cream and one maraschino cherry, you could have, for the SAME # of calories FOUR sundaes made with 3 scoops of nonfat ice milk or frozen yogart, 1/2 c. mixed fruit, 1 Tbl. Choc. syrup, 2 Tbl of whipped cream, and a cherry.

You don't have to have 4 sundaes, maybe just 2, and you would be ahead of the game.

The moral of the story is: substitute, substitute, substitute!

Plan, Plan, Plan!!!!!! Don't leave yourself open for sneak attacks of hunger!!!!
