CHECK-IN WEEK OF 2/12-2/18

oh, that's great news

I hope your sister continues to be inspired!! I am still going through this "too many tapes" collection:

Mon: Voight Great Weighted Workout
Tue: Jane Fonda Step/Abs (rest, really)
Wed: Firm Strongbody
Thurs: Adidas Step Workout
Fri: PS Chest-Triceps
PS Biceps, Back, Abs
Sat: Kathy Smith Power Step (noticed that because of the slower pace of this power step that it would be a good begin
ner power step tape) Plus Voight Yogasculpt

Sun: Firm Complete Aerobic Workout

Glad it's behind me..moving on!

Monday: Nothing, crampy and figured I would take a rest day to recoup:-tired.

Tuesday: Monday running into Tuesday:-rollen. My DH has also changed shifts and it is having a very negative effect on me x(

Wednesday: Did a Leg workout in a BFL style while I watched PS legs. It really was different but good. I started with the cardio warm up and then moved right into the 5 sets of squats and then the one set of leg extensions. With the rests and pace, I finished those around the time Cathe was heading into Plies. I then did DB Lunges but got bored and only did 3 sets..plus I needed heavier DBs and was lazy to load my adjustable ones. I ended up doing 3 sets instead of 1 for deadlifts to make up for it. Calves landed around the same time Cathe was starting hers:). So it worked or meshed good...at least for the company, I really wasn't following her counts or anything but it was good company. I even managed to finish in time to switch tapes and reset the VCR to tape DH's shows;-).

Thursday: KB class and was delighted to see Jeff teach. Jeff started out as regular class member who tagged along with his girlfriend. He has now become one of the better instructors and it is a blast to watch him grow and change as an instructor...the boy could do videos!

Friday: Day from hell, nothing went right...and no workout:-mad.

Saturday: Had made plans to meet my buddy at the KB studio, which I did, but only stayed for the regular class and passed on extreme class:p.

Sunday: delay, delay, delay..watched Daytona 500, delayed workout and went to see Hannible..thought I might workout afterwards figuring I wouldn't want to sleep right away! HA!! But we got home to learn that Dale E had been killed in that crash at the race and it was very emotional for us as I'm sure for every NASCAR fan and I just couldn't workout:'(.

Glad this week is behind me! Come on Spring, long days and hot weather!!!

Kelly~I'm sending some energy vibes your way.:-jumpy I am like you as I tend to put stretch on the back burner-would MUCH rather do cardio & strength, but I'm getting better. Keep up the good work!

Erin~Glad you're on the mend! My daughter grew up working out with me. She used to attend my classes. She turned 28 yesterday and is pregnant with our 1st. grandbaby. I really miss her coming & working out with me. Enjoy those special moments!!

Aimee~Where you been girl? Missed you around here. With our computer down, I haven't been around much either. Thanks for encouraging me with the Yoga tapes. I just received my Ali tape and I'll let you know how I do. I picked up Denise Austin's this past week and ACTUALLY like it!! I would say the only negative in the whole tape is she is sooo chatty in the relaxation poses at the end, but otherwise, it felt real good!! Good 2 C U back!

Julie~Wow, what a workout on Saturday!! :-tired!!! I'd be sooo afraid to make that 1st. cut on a step. How did it go? I'd love to have a mini-step. I just use my 14" stool my hubby made me.

Lisa~Isn't Standing Legs a killer? I do love that tape. I can relate with the sweat running off the elbows! :7 Stick with the Yoga-it does grow on you!

Erica~Soooo glad your tailbone is healing!! :-jumpy Take it easy as you ease back in & you'll be back to strength before you know it. Any news on your move??? :-(

Lynn~I'm with you~BRING ON THE SPRING WEATHER!! Have a great time in AZ (w/o KIDS!!) I am sure you are starting to see some improvement in your legs if you can get thru Cathe's treamill workout!! Have fun!

Debra~76 miles of cycling?? Whew, can you sit in a hard chair after doing that? YIKES!! Good 4 U on encouraging your sis still to workout. Can you recommend any good spinning tapes?

Murph~I'll be getting that E-mail off to you now that we are back online! Good week 4 U. I just may have to pull out my GWW. It's been a looong time since I did that tape.

Nancy~Bummer! What a week for you! Sorry to hear about Dale. How sad. Here's hoping the hot weather comes real quick!! Thanks again for all your advice on the spinning tapes.

Okay~WHEW!Hope I didn't miss anyone! Check-ins take a long time when you check-in LATE!!! My week was a good one! The Hi-light I would have to say is that we ordered two spinning bikes. :-jumpy!! They are supposed to be in today. I can't wait to take that 1st. spin. Anyone with any tips or ideas on spinning or tapes, please fell free to share with me as this is all new for me & my hubby. Saturday~How to Get in Shape For Your Wedding-Step section only, I have been missing doing all my oldies since I received the CTX series. It felt so good to do that tape and I'll tell you what, it is not for the faint of heart! Wow, what a workout if you really put your all into it!! Fun, fun, fun! CTX-Kickbox, cardio only, I Want Those Abs by Tamilee. Good tape with some new stuff for the ABS!! Just picked it up Friday when HB & I did our vid shopping!! Hi, Julie!

Jenny is 12 and Sylvia is 9. Thanks for asking. ;-) It's so much fun working out with them! My 6-year-old son occasionally wants to join in too. We started with Tae Bo Junior, but they actually prefer the adult workouts. :) Sylvia actually wants to start lifting weights too, so I've arranged a trade to get Tracie Long's Firm Basics video to get her started. Of all my instructors, she likes Tracie's style the best. :)

Good luck making your mini-step! You'll love it! I would be lost without mine! :)

Erin

Hi, Erica!

Yeah, it's GREAT working out with them! We ride bikes together in the spring and summer, which is wonderful too! I love being an active family together.

I'm so glad that your tailbone is doing better! BTW, you obviously have a much more modest video collection than I do. I tried to imagine doing the cardio sections from all of my videos. Going straight through it would take me a couple of days! :) Hee, hee!

Oh, did you get my email that I sent out RAW on Friday? I hope you're healed up enough to do it right away when you get it!!

Have a great day!

Erin

RE: cia videos

Thanks for the feedback, Julie. I'm glad they were on sale, so if I'm lukewarm about them, it won't have hurt my wallet tooo much!.
I'm so tempted to buy Hi-Lo Heaven and Happy Hou Hi-Lo, but really want them on sale--Christy's site didn't seem to offer quantity discounts. I just need something new...it's extremely frustrating to me that I had have Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max sitting over there by my TV since December 25th, unwrapped , just waiting to be sent back to Cathe to exchange for the DVDs--but I have to wait till a more lucrative time to get those DVDs. Arghh! I want to try them out!!!!
Anyway, thanks agoin for the CIA suggestions!
Wendy

Scottsdale

Hi, Lynn. I live in Scottsdale, and just wanted to give you an update on the weather. Yesterday we enjoyed blue skies, sunshine, and a temp. around 70. Today I have all my windows open as I sit here typing, and I can hear the birds chirping (nicer than the howling Coyotes of last night, let me tell you!), the bunnies running, and the people out milling around! It is gorgeous. Hope this holds true for the time you spend here :)
Wendy

RE: Hey All!!

Oh, Debbie, your chattiness is welcome! (Denise Austin's, on the other hand...I'd just turn down the volume!) I love that you respond to everyone's posts! (Don't feel like you have to every time, now that I've said that ;-) )
I want to send this to my mom. I just recently had my 29th birthday, and I want her to see that a mom of a 28 year old is in incredible shape, and so can she be!!! She has always been a walker, and used to be active in local aerobic classes, but since my dad died two years ago, she's slacked off quite a bit. I sent her some old beginner tapes of mine (at her request--nothing worse than pushing stuff on someone who doesn't want it!), and ordered A New You with Kari Anderson, and she's been really enjoying them for the past two weeks. I saw Your Personal Best on ebay, and if I can get it cheap enough, I'll send her that, too.
Just want you to know that you are an inspiration :-jumpy !

Hi, Debbir!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-19-01 AT 11:20AM (Est)[p]Opps, sorry about the name typo! I hit enter too fast, and it wouldn't let me fix it. :-(

You have me in tears! I've been realizing the last few days how fast my kids are growing up, and cherishing every moment. The thought that they won't always be right here, where I can love them up every single day is HARD. Why can't we just freeze time ( on one of the really GOOD days, though, not one where you're ready to join the French Foreign Legion to get away! :) Hee, hee! ). Thanks for the reminder! :)

Have a great day!

Erin

Hi Erin

I am really looking forward to RAW and hoping to do it right away. I'm feeling just about totally better. I went for a walk yesterday with my kids and tried running and was able to with no problem, and today I did my first Cathe step tape since my fall - fun!
How many videos do you have? I think I have around 70 (haven't counted in a while), but a lot are just strength. I couldn't do much step, so that left me with just kickboxing and hi/lo really. I think I ended up doing about 2 hours of cardio a day? Maybe more some days. It was so much fun - those endorphins were just flying. I was gushing over the instructors - how amazing they were for being able to remember the routine, cue and do the actual workout - I was totally nuts. I'll probably do one more crazy week now that I can do step and run, and then I'll settle back to a normal routine!
Take care!
Erica

Hi Debbie!

Great week - especially for a granny-to-be :)
No news on the move yet. Ron is supposed to go to Atlanta next month to interview, but he is not very optimistic. I'm happy for me, sad for him.
Hope you and your husband have lots of fun on those new spinning bikes!!
Erica

RE: Hey All!!

Deb: DEFINITELY pick up Rodney Yee's Yoga for Athletes. I normally don't like a tape the first time I do it...I usually have to warm up to it. But I loved it the first time I did it! The first section he has you stretching out with a chair which I loved...I also loved how he held the stretches. The other tape I have of his is Power Yoga for Beginner's which really isn't my style as he goes through the positions quite quickly...I like the stretching part of yoga more than the quick moves into different poses.

I'm so excited for you and your hubby that you're getting spinning bikes...I'm so jealous!!! Are you going to do tapes with those? If so, which ones?

Let us know how it goes!

Terri

Thanks Wendy!

How sweet you are!! I love reading everyone's posts and it's fun to get to know everyone. Keep on postin'!!! I'm sorry to hear of your Dad's death. Boy, it's tough, isn't it? I have lost both of my parents and my brother. We really need to cherish every moment we have with our loved ones. Glad to hear your Mom is getting back into working out and how lucky she is to have you to encourage her. Thanks again for the compliment. Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Hi Erin!

It's Debbir!!! Hee-Hee! Give those kids all a big hug today!! Have a great day yourself! :D Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Hi Erica!

Don't tell Ron, but I'm happy for you too!! Whatever is meant to be, you will do just fine and think of it this way~You'll still have lots of friends at Cathe.com!! Hope to meet with you soon!! Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Whew!

Too many tapes & not enuf time!! I guess you have convinced me to pick up R.Yee's Y4A's! I am starting to run out of space to store all my tapes! :7 Yes, we are going to do spinning tapes with our bikes. I ordered both Jay and Mindy's spinning tapes and we are also getting a JohnnyG one thrown in with our bikes. Want to come spin with me? I can't wait & I will definitely get back and let you know how it went. (IF, I can get up the steps afterwards!!!) Have a good week. Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

New to this ceck-in stuff 12th-18th

Hi everyone,
Well I have been encouraged to join you all.

Let's see now, what did I do.
From Monday to Sunday
Monday: Went to Gym and ran 3 miles on treadmill half of it on incline, then did half of my weight workout doing a light day then stretch for 30 min.

Tuesday: Went to Gym again and ran 2 miles, followed by 15 added minutes on Ecliptial machine. Then did my other half of my light weight workout. Followed with stretching

Wednesday: Ran 3 miles on 3. incline then followed by half heavy weight workout with 30 min. stretching at the end.

Thursday: Gym with 10 min. run, 10 min Bike, 10 min. Ecli. machine followed with last half heavy weights day. Ending with stretching.

Friday: Did Cathe PowerMax video. Loved it.

Saturday: Went to gym and did step class followed by floor work.
75 min. workout with a bit of weights and stretching afterwards.

Sunday: Off

I'm trying to train for my first race. It's a 12K and I don't think I will actually do it. I'm looking for a shorter race for around May to run in. I'm running alot and trying to do at least the first mile on a incline. That's what the 12K has for the first mile. I'm also trying to do a light weight and heavey weight workout as well. Lora

P.S. Any of you know how to estimate how steap a hill is? Also are any of you doing "Active Isolation" Stretching? I've been doing it for about a month and love it. It takes me along time though but seems to be doing what it promises.

RE: Hi Erin

I have about 70 also ( not counting all the ones on the way, like TBLA4 and all my CIAs shhhhh! ;-) ), but I'm the opposite from you. I adore cardio, so most of mine are cardio, where only a chosen few are strength. :) A lot of THOSE have cardio on them too, like CTX and BMax. :)

Have a great day!

Erin

Hey Gretchen!

I just wanted to tell you that I think that you have a great attitude! I have really been slacking and feeling sorry for myself the last couple of months due to prednisone side effects. Your post has inspired me to quit whining and get off my butt.

I checked out your homepage. I think the camp sounds really cool. I was 17 when I was originally diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and I think it would have been great to meet other teens with the same problem. For years, I wouldn't tell anyone about my colitis unless I just had to because I hated having it and found it really embarassing. I've managed to get over that the last couple of years.

Anyway, I think that it's great that you don't let your illness prevent you from doing things that you want to do.

Christina

Hi, Christina!

That prednisone's a killer! I couldn't move up from 1# to 2# dumbbells on the Arms & Abs of Steel because of that stuff. Couldn't believe how quickly I put on muscle after I got off of it.

Thank you for all the kind words! I'm just a curmudgeon, really, I get mad at anything that tries to tell me what to do--people, disease, or otherwise!

The camp is a really great place. One of the things that happens is the kids get more physical activity than they do at home. Of course, that actually isn't unique to kids at Crohn's and colitis camp, but I think there's a tendency to go crawl into bed rather than do whatever they can. Been there, done that!

Great to hear from you Christina!

:) Gretchen
