Check-In W/E 2/11/01

Karen Voight

Yep, Voight is zombie like in this video. Guess her subdued manner is supposed to be soothing. Voight usually started out stiff in earlier videos, but then got looser as she got into the videos (I'm not talking physically). She's much better in her newer videos. She has great form & somehow her workouts always find some unused muscle to torture.

Despite Karen's demeanor, I like the stretching video & used it weekly until Nancy C introduced me to Scott Cole's Millenium Stretch. I still do the Voight tape when time is limited.

Kari Anderson is the only fitness personality that I've been exposed to that has Cathe's warmth & comfort in front of the camera.

RE: Just saying hi

Andrea, glad you posted an update. Trevor's not quite in the same boat. He does deserve kudos for getting in his workouts despite his sleep deprived status. Your time will come! Take care.

RE: Hi everyone!

We were barried in snow this week, but I still did pretty good when it came to exercise. Eating was a different story.

Mon- Circuitmax, 20 min pilates
Tue- Cardiokicks
Wed- PS CST and Leaner Legs, Joy of Yoga
Thur- 20 min Pilates
Fri- All Step in its entirety, Joy of Yoga
Sat- PS BBA and SNI cardio, Pilates
Sun- Cardiokicks, Living Arts Intermediate Matwork

Well, I have discovered pilates and I like it. It's a totally different feeling from standard workouts and even Yoga for that matter. I was looking for a new way to work the abs and let me tell ya, this is it! It incorporates the power of the mind as well. I can't say enough good things about it. Have a great week everyone!

Hi everyone!

More real estate battles this week. I never want to move again. Along with packing:

Mon: Trot 30 min w/dogs; Wedding tape conditioning w/sis
Tues: Cycle 23 miles (rolling hills)
Wed: Spin; Wedding tape cond. w/ sis
Thurs: Pilates mat class
Fri: Cycle 67 miles w/ DH (a metric century! Flat but w/ plenty of headwinds. Didn't do my share of pulling thru the headwinds.)
Sat: MIS (skipped legs)
Sun: Cycle 27 miles w/ DH; stretching video tonite

A string of storms was supposed to start rolling in yesterday but so far only a few showers have hit. It's been chilly & beautiful. I love it though I was glad Thurs a.m. was DH's turn to ride & I had dog duty!

Have a great week everyone!

RE: About your bread machine

This is really off the subject but after reading about your bagel making experiment. I do not have a bread machine, I got one for Christmas one year and it didn't work so I sort of got turned off. Anyway, I really am thinking of getting one now, but can you make whole wheat bread with them easily? My kids do like it and we have a bakery that makes a really good one but $3.00 a loaf gets pretty pricey if you ask me. They absolutely love bagels too but they are just refined flour ones not whole wheat. I may even eat one if they were whole wheat.

Erin, what machine do you use and are you happy with it?

Thanks,

Lynn W

Hi Terri!

Just wanted to let you know that Best Buy is an electronic, appliance and music (cassette tapes, VHS tapes, cd's & dvd's) store. It's not related to Buy.com. If you have trouble finding the tape near you, I'll be glad to pick one up for you if they have more at my store. I know our Sam's Club's and B.J.'s (both wholesale stores) carry the "Dummie" books, but I'm not sure if they carry the VHS tapes. Do you have B.J.'s or Sam's near you? Let me know if I can help. You may be disappointed in that it is definitely a beginner tape to learn the 12 basic poses. It was my intro to Yoga so I did like it. Let me know either way. I can't wait to try Ali's tape after hearing all the raves about it. Good Luck at your next dentist appointment. :-mad Just kidding!! Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Hey Lynn!

I think getting one workout in a day is a real accomplishment for someone with 5 kids all 13 years & under!!! (Not to mention a hubby and a dog too!!) Keep up the great job. :D I know what you mean about being afraid to go back to posts. I've lost a few of my posts trying to do that. Grrrr!! Good Luck with the weather this week.:-cool Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Glad...

...to have you still joining us!! Before you know it, you'll be jumping around like the rest of us! Thanks for the congrats~it is unbelievable to see the baby moving and his/her lil' heart beating. Hang in there on your workout schedule. Once Jacob gets his schedule down pat, it'll be your turn to do your thing. Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Erin!

Bummer~sorry to hear about your lousy week! Hope this week is much better. Maybe when you get to feeling better, you could share your recipe with us for the bagels?? No hurry. I almost hate to ask after the flood of e-mails you've had to send out lately. Really, no hurry at all. Just get better and start back easy this week! Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Hey Brad!

Which pilates tape are you using? I could use some new ideas for ABS. TIA! Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Thanks Murph!

I truly enjoy my home workouts! It adds some variety to what I teach, which is just basically Hi/Lo with a little kickbox and light toning. My students have to bring their weights, water, mats & shoes with them as I teach in a church fellowship hall so there is no way we could do much beyond 5 pounders! Of course if I had them bring their 5's, 8, 10, 12, 15, & 20's, they'd have their warm-up all done by the time they got up the steps into the room. :-tired Good week for you~I'm thinking of adding some Firm back into my rotation. Have a nice week. Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

Trevor..pick a fav!

You mean outdoor activity? It probably doesn't matter as long as the sun is shining and I'm warm and toasty;-). I did just get into trail riding on my bike last summer and that was fun. I'm sure I'm not as hard core as you though;-)...don't like to get too dirty! LOL
But then again, it's hard to beat rollerblading or taking my step n go out on a good bike path for the day:)...I'm certainly a recreational outdoor person..nothing too crazy. I still haven't taught myself to rollerblade backwards yet either..I'll be tackling that this year!

Hello Everyone!

You all give me such motivation to work out! I got my new Cathe tapes on Monday and my only regret is not being able to try them all out at once! I started a CTX rotation on Tues and am enjoying it, but I am finding that I really miss a good 60 min step workout with sweat dripping! I think I will have to modify the CTX series for myself so that I still get to do those long step tapes.

Here is my week:

Mon SW
Tue CTX Kickbox
Wed CTX All Step
Thur rest
FRI CTX Leaner Legs
SAT CTX Step and Intervals
SUN CTX 10 10 10

Have a good week Everybody!

April

My bread machine

Hi, Lynn! My machine is an Oster 2 lb. Expressbake machine. I got it right after Christmas last year, and I love it! It has 8 different cycles on it, including dough only, whole wheat, & 2 different "express" cycles, one that is 58 minutes, and 1 that is 80 minutes. It's great for having hot bread for dinner or whatever, and not having to think of it 3 1/2 hours ahead of time. :) And for some reason my favorite whole wheat recipe comes out better on the 80 minute express cycle than it does on the regular whole wheat. It's a little bit heavier ( not quite as high a rise ), but it's less coarse, and I think it tastes better. I DO add 1 cup of bread flour, for the higher gluten content and better rising, but you could also just add gluten, and probably get the same good results. I've had the best luck with my sourdough whole wheat recipe. Sadly it isn't "sourdough" tasting, which is what I was trying to achieve, but it does make a very yummy, moist wheat bread that even my kids will eat. :) So I've stuck with it for my regular whole wheat breads. You can make the "starter" yourself in just a few days. But I'm babbling on. :) I highly recommend getting a breadmaker that is a 2 lb. machine. They seem to be a little bit heftier than the 1 or 1.5 lb machines. A great bread machine cookbook is called More Bread Machine Magic. It has the recipe for starting your own sourdough, and lots of good hints to tweak your bread recipies.

I hope this helps!

Erin

Debbie!

I'll post some recipies later today or tomorrow. Getting healthy again has left me with quite a bit of catching up to do. :)

Total Body Shaping Mix went very well yesterday, by the way. But WHAT does the Firm use as its definition of "low impact?" It was nuts! They would say,"Prepare for low impact," and then launch into a cardio section with a bazillion plyo jumps! I modified everything low, snce it was only my second post-virus workout, but come on! Talk about false advertising. I DO love the Firm, but they have a language all their own. :)

Have a great day!

Erin

RE: Thanks Erin

I appreciate all your advice. I am going to look into it. We belong to Sam's and sometimes they have some good deals on appliances. There is nothing like the smell of fresh bread baking. :) I must be hungry, it is about lunch time for me.

Thanks again,

Lynn W

I'm Baa...ack!!

Glad to "see" all my friends here at the Cathe forums...great workout weeks as usual for all of you.

Well, my husband and I decided on January 26th to take a very impromptu vacation on that very day (we hadn't been out of the state for fourteen months and that's a LONG time without a trip for us). So we booked the trip and left that day embarking on a very long trip (about 12-18 hours each way) to our "happy place," Disney World. (Yes, we're crazy about the mouse :7).
We just returned this past Thursday. It was a twelve day trip and it was heaven to get away finally :).

Aside from walking in the parks for 4-6 (very stop-n-go) miles each day, I also brought my Aqua-bells (dumbells you fill with water for resistance) and was faithful in doing a total body weight workout on my own about 2-3x/week. The last few days of the trip, I also did a little bit of walking alternated with jogging in the mornings once the weather cleared up (i.e. the rain stopped on our last three days).

So here's my last week:

Monday - 30 minutes "wogging" (walking alternating with short bouts of jogging); 5 minutes abs and plank work
Tuesday - 30 minutes wogging; 1 hour total body aqua-bells weight workout
Wednesday - 20 minutes wogging; 5 minutes abs and plank work
Thursday - I'm home again (wish I was still in Florida, but at least I get to return to my videos); did BodyMax
Friday - Cardio Kicks
Saturday - Firm Super Cardio

I've gotta say, the workouts I've done since I returned feel 100% better than they did right before I left. I think the rest/time off did me a lot of good (prior to the trip I'm almost certain I was going through burnout), so I'm trying now to stay committed to NOT overburdening myself with workouts but rather doing what feels good to me and listening to my body. Yes, I know easier said than done but that's what I'm gonna try to do from here on out.

Sorry for the long post. Take care everyone and have a great week.

Lisa :)
