CHECK-IN for week of 4-1-01

I like Personal Best! - it's a great pick me up on a gloomy day or a "I really don't feel like working out but should" day. I call it circuit training light.

Murph, I'm taking my 4 legged creatures back to school. My 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks (dogs) seem to have some confusion over who is the alpha stitch in this household. I don't know why I'm surprised, training my husband is another ongoing process so why should the dogs be different?

Trevor, looks like my Mariners are going to be as mediocre as your Orioles this year. At least the Orioles had the sense not to pick up Canseco when the Angels dropped him.

Debbie, take care of that elbow & exercise patience. I had shoulder problems for much of 2000. Hopefully your doc is more tuned in than my clueless former doc. She told me to use 2# weights since I only wanted to tone, not build muscle ! Have to find a doctor that isn't opposed to female muscle mass ;-).

It was another chaotic workout week:

Mon: MIS (sis couldn't make workout :)!;
Tues: walk/trot w/ dogs; Abs & back from Streamline Fitness
Wed: Spin
Thurs: (kickboxing planned but repair guys showed up 4 hours late) hill walking w/ sis; Body Max upperbody
Fri: cycle 25 flat miles
Sat: cycle 47 flat miles w/ DH
Sun: trot w/ a little walk (I'm progressing); Millenium Stretch

It was nice to be on my own for my strength work this week, though I didn't do as much as I'd hoped. My sister will be joining me again this week. I may be sending the little chick out on her own so I can push my body instead of hers.

Have a great week everyone.

RE: Hi Terri!

I have more but the tapes I always seem to do are. Ali MacGraw's Yoga Mind and Body, Crunch's Joy of Yoga, Yoga with Ateeka, and Yoga Zone's Total Body Conditioning. I do yoga every morning. Sometimes if there's enough time left after my "workout" I might tack on another yoga session. Usually though, I do it in the a.m.. I've tried do cardio in the morning, and I just can't do it! But I've found that doing yoga in the morning wakes me up nice and easy. It's the only thing I have in able to stick to in the mornings:)!

Personal Best

Hi Murph!

I had a friend in highschool we used to call Murph and your posts always remind me of him :) Believe it or not Personal Best used to be my fave vid before I discovered Cathe. I loved the sports moves in the aerobics, but now I have Mindy to do that for me!

6 hours a day training a horse! My Dad bought me an old swayback horse when I was a kid so she wouldn't hurt me but she ran off down the road with me holding on to the rope! And the first time she stepped on my toe I about died. Have fun with her/him!

Andrea

What are you going to do with your sis? MIS? I'll be interested to know how she likes it after TWV.

Andrea

Laura!

Mercey, girl!! When I first saw your post I thought, ooooh her workouts look alot like mine. Until I looked closer... Your Weds. workout? Did you put some time between MIC and your run? I just LOVE to run! Running and Cathe are a beautiful thing. I am really working up to 20 mi. a week ( maybe I'll trian for a 10k or something). I did a marathon 2yrs ago, did not train properly for it and payed dearly with I-band injury. Your life there in Boring sounds anything but. Happy :-jumpy:-jumpy:-jumpyRunning!

I'm glad that I started checking in. :)

DebbieH.....you really are 'dancing' all the time now with the new sessions you are practicing....hope it went well....and good luck with that elbow

Aimee....I really enjoy doing yoga and stretching....I am going to look for Yoga by Ateeka and Yoga Zone TBC...and I am going to try to do yoga first thing in the morning

Lynn....I think 17% body fat is wonderful!

Terri....No, I am not the Susan asking about TaeBo. I did order the whole set from an ad on TV...but after I received it....and before I opened it...I got another bill to make up for the fact that it was in US funds...I live in Canada...and that would make the cost over $100 so I sent it back. So I never did get to do it :-(

Murph....What a wonderful experience to develop a relationship with a horse. I only have cats and you really can't train them to do anything! But I do love them!

[email protected]'m not in the shape most of the others are who are in this over 50 category....but I feel good and I just love the way I feel like after a good workout :D

About Personal Best....I like it...the scenery is peaceful...and I like the out take at the end....it is for days when you don't feel quite up to snuff... it does gives you a complete circuit workout...but with out that :-wow feeling you have after IMAX or something like that (not that IMAX is circuit).... you know what I mean ;-)

Have a great week everybody :)

Hi Andrea,

My sister isn't ready for MIS. Firm Cardio about killed her even with light weights so I need to chose shorter workouts. She likes The Firm's Max Body Sculpting. It seems to be a good follow up to The Wedding Tape (for her!). Thanks for asking.

You're doing great! Don't know how you have the energy with the little guy!

HI Deb!

Yes, running and Cathe are a beautiful thing!

How impressive you did a marathon! So sorry to hear about the injury. OUCH. I too have a family so my scheduale allows a early morning aerobic workout. I run in the afternoons. I don't think I could do both together.

Have you thought about doing a triatholon? A friend said it was fun. Most of those involved arent professional. A few are very serious. I think the cycling part would be fun. My bike is old and has a basket with a bell on it!

See Ya,
Laura

Hey Debra!
Man I envy your cycling days.....hope to get outside more sometime soon!

Yes I think the O's and M's will probably be just "middle of the road" type teams. The thing is, the Orioles have no excuses. They have money coming out of their ears over there at Camden Yards. They have made very poor baseball decisions over the last few years that have cost them in the standings as well as alot of respect from opposing players as well as fans. I do expect them to be a gritty, hustling group this year. That has been sorely lacking in recent years. Just so you feel better about the Mariners....A-Rod is not worth the money he was paid and since Texas has no pitching at all, I doubt if you will see him in the playoffs either. :)

LAST EDITED ON Apr-02-01 AT 08:24PM (Est)[p]Super weeks everyone!
I just returned from the Orioles opener against the Red Sox. I took Matthew with the company seats and the game was such a thriller! Our Orioles took out Pedro Martinez and the Red Sox so it was a great day. Go O's!!!
On a bummer note.....Maryland Terps completely folded against Duke in a very poorly referreed game the other night. Oh well, being in the final 4 is a great accomplishment nonetheless. :)
And.....today my employer, W.R. Grace and Co., just filed Chapter 11. This news is a little unsettling though not unexpected. I do not foresee any job problems for me stemming from this so that is a relief.
My week:
Mon. -- IMAX
Tues. -- back(rear delt, vertical rows, lats) and shoulder(press, side db raises) weight work. abs
Wed. -- Bodymax
Thurs. -- chest(flat bench, incline bench, pec deck) and legs(squats, extensions, leg curls, inner and outer thighs) abs
Fri. -- went in meaning to do 30 mins on precor along with weights. Ended up going VERY hard on precor. Went 70 mins on that sucker changing speeds, angles and intensities) No weights
Sat. -- had to go in to do weights since I didnt do any Friday. Basically worked every bodypart using machines. Got in biceps and tris during this time since I had neglected them during the workweek. Also did 4 sets of 30 on ab roller.

I feel great as far as cardio goes. And am continuing to get stronger in my lifting. I did lose 5 pounds unintentionally to take my bodyweight to 180. Am working to get back to my ideal of 185 on this 6ft frame.
Have a happy healthy week everyone!!
Trevor :) :-jumpy

Geez you took a day off!!!!! :)
You are a machine girl!
Trevor

Gretchen your workouts are so unique. I bet the canoeing is loads of fun! I used to canoe the Magothy River here not too far from the Naval Academy when I was younger. Loved it!! :)
Trevor

Lynn,
Dont be bummed about the weight thing. It's probably muscle. Your workouts look great.....just keep up the good work girl, you're doing fine.
Trevor :)

RE: Wait till tomorrow!

I feel like I got hit by a truck ever since the time change!!! lol!! :)

You guys..

I have a MAJOR MEETING TOMMORROW--where the nail polish must match the outfit and every acesssory in the right color and i just thought "oh, well, I'll just lurk; not post." And here I am. }> I am glad to hear the comments on Personal Best because that's exactly how I feel about it: it's a "I don't wanna do anything tape that can lift you into it, for some reason."
(Plus, it's before Karen bought her "rack." and I think it's truer. )

Thanks Lynn!

Yes, I was practicing for my new session. (I teach in a church fellowship hall) My Spring session started today. Usually I will take one week off between sessions but took two this time hoping to give this ole elbow some rest. Class went well. I teach two afternoons a week at 4:00 That class has a lot of teachers that come from the school right next door. I also teach two mornings a week at 9:30. That is the class that works out & then we go to lunch!:7 A girl's gotta eat, right? Thanks for asking. Great week for you. BTW, what is double aerobics??

Thanks Deb!

The shower was fun! Actually, if I can say this w/o boasting, I got several compliments saying they thought maybe I was Julie's sis. Not that I actually look THAT young, but they didn't think I was old enuf to be her mom! MADE MY DAY!!! Deb, you are doing wonderful with your running. I wish sooo bad we would get some nice weather. It has been the pits here. It does look like things are getting better by the end of this week. Possible 70*!!! I'll take it after all the snow, clouds & rain. How did your big band party go the other night? Hope you had fun.

Hi Terri!

You are too funny waiting on someone else to post. We will wait for YOU next week!! ACTUALLY, I posted at 8:34 A.M??? It says 7:34 because SNM haven't changed their time clock. Where did you see a post at 4:45? THAT definitley would not be ME! RIGHT HB? I am not an early bird. It is all I can do to get up 2x/week at 6:30 for my A.M class. Losing an hour this week is killing me! Not really, I guess I'll live, but you won't see me posting at 4:45!!! Great week for you & have fun in Florida at your parent's place! ENJOY the sun! :-cool

Thanks Debra!

I'm trying very hard to have patience. It's not easy! By the looks of your workout with MIS & BodyMax, looks like your shoulder is doing well. It's so nice of you still to be helping & encouraging your sis. Hopefully, some day soon, she will be up to your level. Great week 4 U!
