Check-in 4/7/01

Wendy,

Sorry to hear about your hurting knees. I did something to my knees a few months back too and I ended up having to do lighter weights during strength training and the same cardio (but definitely minus much of the jumping/power). I did this for about 3-4 weeks and the twinges cleared up. Of course, if you think it's something more serious, you may need to consult a physician. Good luck :)!!

BTW, glad to hear your DVD player is back on track. We just got our multi-disc player back on Monday after THREE WEEKS in the shop...they certainly took their sweet time but it seems to finally be working okay :D.

Take care,
Lisa

Hi Debbie!

Debbie,

Glad to hear your elbow is on the mend. You are wise to be resting it for as long as necessary for proper healing.

As for the Power Bar training tape...I responded to Terri about this too (see below) but I'll just recap. It's more high rep, lower weight than say, a Cathe weight workout. But, I definitely had some good soreness the next day. I think it's good to use as your second (or third) weight workout for the week to complement Cathe weight workouts. I will say though that it takes some experimentation to figure out which weight to use for each body part...I had to do a lot of pausing while I switched plates and/or switched to my BodyBar for certain exercises. This was my second time through and I'm finally starting to know the routine well enough that I can plan ahead for barbell changes.

Okay, that's probably more info than you needed...I'll stop.

Take care,
Lisa :)

Hi Aimee

So sorry to hear about your stepdad. I agree that keeping up your normal routine helps get you through these tough times.

My thoughts go out to you...

Take care,
Lisa :)

I did enough to make me feel like I did something but not enough to make me feel achy as I felt when I tried MIS 2X in one week.

Mon......Sweat Express
Tues.....70 min walk in A.M. Angles, Lines and Curves in P.M.
Wed......MIS
Thurs....planned off
Fri......Step Heat
Sat......planned off
Sun......Happy Hour

I should have switched Wed and Thurs around but wasn't expecting Sat to be completely off.

Have a good week !

Hi Everyone!

Howdy,

Whoever started this once a week check in had a great idea..Thank You! When I realize I will be accountable, it keeps me going.

Aimee...my thoughts and heart are with you. So very sorry to hear about your loss. There must be many who will miss him dearly.

This will be short and sweet. I have 2 young men to pick up from church camp. They were gone this weekend.

Mon: MIC, ran 4 miles
Tues: Karen Voight Energy Sprint
Wens: Off
Thurs: Interval Max, ran 4 miles, soaked in a hot tub!
Fri: Power Circuit
Sat: Power Max, ran 4 miles
Sun: Cardio Kicks, I want to run today but we will see what happens.

Oh...Trevor, you have such a beautiful family! Keep up the good work.

See Ya,
Laura

Thanks, Kelly!

I just noticed you had already posted about this anyway over on another conference--sorry!
I still haven't done any Christi, but this sounds good to me!
Thanks again...
Wendy

Lisa

Thanks for the words of encouragement! I'm definitely going to take it easy, at least for 3 to 4 weeks, on the leg work and power moves--may even do all stepping videos without the step for a while, and with low impact modifications. I think it is most likely overuse, and jumping right into a 3 1/2 mile run this week was pretty stupid!
Glad your DVD player is back!!! Mine took just under two weeks to fix, and it still didn't fix the sound problem I was experiencing with the Cathe DVD's, but I finally noticed an audio output option was set to bitstream rather than PCM, and that fixed the problem!
Thanks again for the knee advice!
Wendy

Hi everyone!

Wow - the check-in is busy!

Aimee - I'm so sorry about your stepdad.
Trevor - love the pictures of Brandon and your family. He is getting big fast!!
Terri - Wow, that's scary about your dad. Hope he starts feeling better soon. By the way, I love the Powerbar Training tape. I find it to be very challenging and even have trouble completing the reps on some sets using lighter weights than I use in any other video.

I recently started a push/pull slow and heavy rotation - getting ready for the new tapes!!
Here's my week:

Monday - Run 2 miles, 25 minutes on stairstepper, Precision Cycling, Biceps/Triceps

Tuesday: Run 8 miles, abs

Wednesday: Cardio Kicks, Mindy's Sport Cycle, Chest/Back. My chest was sooo sore for a couple of days after this workout - ouch!!

Thursday: Run 8 miles, Leaner Legs, shoulders

Friday: I was tired, so I used the slide and then did Intense Moves with many modifications. Biceps/Triceps

Saturday: Run 8 miles, abs

Sunday: Run 4 miles, Mindy's Sport Cycle, Chest/Back
Hike with husband and kids. Debbie and Honeybunch - have you been to Nelson's Ledges Park in Portage County? It is really nice.

Things have been crazy around here and my workouts have really helped me stay sane!!
Hope everyone has a great week!!
Erica

Hi everyone!

Some very busy weeks for everyone. I'll have to make this short as I need to get some kids in the house and off to bed. It was a great day here in Omaha. Finally feels and looks like Spring.

Aimee - my prayers are with your family. It is good to have a stress reliever like exercise.

Terri - Hope your father-in-law is doing o.k.

Trevor - Cute pictures.

Debbie - Keep taking care of that elbow

LAST EDITED ON Apr-09-01 AT 11:45AM (Est)[p]Trevor, what great pictures! Love the shot of Tigger giving Brandon a few pointers. Matthew's "playground" looks like such fun. What I would give to ride or run through trees! Nature is much subtler in So Cal. Michelle looks great - must be getting some quality sleep. Thanks for sharing your family with us.
Debra

I do Circuit Max with a barbell because I need additional leg work. I have gone down to a 35 lb. one instead of 50 lb.

RE: walking and leg work...

I get my tapes from Sports Music. You will get great result with the Spri tubing.

Aimee, sorry for your loss.
Terri, what a scare. Hope your father-in-law is on the mend.

Wendy, watch those knees. I've mistreated mine recently & boy do they let you know it. This week, I ran (trotted) 2 days in a row & they're letting me know they are not ready.

Got the good & bad of health clubs this week. The head of the spinning program gave me some training ideas. He quit racing last year & now coaches other racers. It's generous of him to give me some time. I climb well but can't accelerate or sprint during the climb. The Rx is hill repeats(4) & 2 days of training on steep hills each week.

On the bad side, the club wrote my pregnant Pilates instructor off the schedule. The club closed 1 of their 2 locations & an instructor w/ seniority got the mat class. She's an excellent instructor but her class is more Pilates inspired. Great stretching but I'm missing the core work. Plus their have been lots of beginners with medical issues which has changed the focus of the class.

Mon: Trot/Walks 45 min (too much trotting & it was the 2nd day in a row); upper body weights & abs
Tues: Pilates mat class (achy knees)
Wed: Spinning; Firm Max Body Sculpting w/ sis
Thurs: nada
Friday: Cycle 17 miles (hills - checked out the loop the Spinning director recommended. Survived the climb ok but the descent :-wow ! I think he has overestimated my abilities); BodyMax upperbody & abs
Sat: nada - rainy
Sun: Cycle 47 hilly miles w/ DH (while an hour w/ Scott Cole would have been preferred, I washed windows 'cause we're finally getting our window coverings :-jumpy .)

Trevor, my husband also needs to put about 8 pounds back on. The move & ensuing projects has taken a toll on him. The weight didn't actually leave the house, I'm holding it for him! I need to lose that proverbial 5 to get down to a better climbing weight. I may torture him on flats but he's blowing my doors off on climbs.

Have a good week everyone & listen to your bodies!!! Oh, & enjoy a few Easter treats too!
Debra

Hello All!! I am so-so-so late for this post, but thought I would add mine anyway and thank you for checking in. You guys are so inspiring. I have had a weird week, not bad, just kind of blah and busy...anyway this is what I did:

Mon.-Cardio kicks+Leaner Legs

Tues.-MIS Upper Body+4.5 mi. run

Weds.-Ab work + Gin Millers Intense moves.

Thurs.-Nada-----pooped...pms'ing???yea, think so.

Fri-MIS lower body+ 4mi.run

Sat-MIS upper body-power NAP.Ugh.

Sun-IMAX, with a vengence! Got through it without cussing in spanish. Did some Yoga moves to Luis Miguel's new CD Ahhhhhh.

Hey Debra, Since you are our Culinary student, do you have any good bean spread recipes for me? Love legumes, just love them.

Trevor your family is great--could just eat that baby up! Adorable! You are a lucky man.

Dear Aimee,

I am sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Hang in there girl. Debbie Dailey

Hi Terri!

I could've sworn I already posted a reply to you yesterday but I don't see it here so I'll try again.

Sorry to hear about your dad. I work at a hospital and have heard many success stories from patients having stent placement done...hope he's on the mend soon :)!

As for the PowerBar training video. I definitely wouldn't call it easy, but it's different than a Cathe video. It's more high rep, low weight work...but I definitely felt some good, healthy soreness post-workout. It's a good total body workout to rotate in on alternate days of your Cathe weight workouts. And the sisters who instruct it are quite friendly and easy to follow...but of course no one will ever take the place of Cathe as the best instructor out there ;-) !!

Take care,
Lisa

I didn't have much time when I did my check-in and just got down to the nitty gritty and had no time to really say anything personal.

Amee....I was sorry to hear of your step-dad's passing ...I agree with the others that exercise is a great stress buster

Terri....sorry to hear of your changed plans for your vacation....my dad had a pig valve put in in '78 and now that he is 80 he is on a cruise going through the Panama Canal. Those heart doctors can do marvelous things!

Janet...I was so sorry to hear about your back...I remember talking to you once about stretch tapes

Trevor....I took a peek at the pictures of your wee one....Brandon has grown so fast...I particularly liked the one with Tigger.

I read all the posts and hesitate to respond to them all....this is going to be long enought as it is.

The sore knees, elbows and backs....I can empathize with you all in having to skip parts of workouts because of them.

You all work out so hard and as the previous post said...you inspire me.

Sorry to be so long winded.....I just wanted to give everybody hugs!
