Ceiling height?

I'm considering buying a house that has a "finished" basement (quotes b/c it's vinyl floored & wood paneled, but it's definitely NOT a place in which I'd hang out & relax). I've promised myself the next place I buy will have a room where I can not only store all my stuff but also use it for actually working out, & this seems ideal.

The only problem is I'd estimate the ceilings at maybe 7 feet. I'm 5'3" or 5'4" (depending on which dr. you ask) & do most of my stepping on a 6" step. So this leaves me maybe a foot of space above my head for the high impact moves.

Do you think this is enough room? I can just see myself attempting to do power 15s & knocking the plaster off the ceiling.........:eek:
 
My gym is in a room with a ceiling height of 7'3". I'm 5'6" and the only problem I've run into with step (also 6") is the ceiling fan...ouch!! I try to position the step so I'm out of harm's way. Occasionally, I may graze the ceiling with my hand when doing something, but not very often.

The problem I'm running into with this ceiling height, however, is that it's really too low for most pull-up towers and other equipment.

You might be okay with that but it'll be close. I have an 8' ceiling in my workout space which is perfectly adequate for me -- I'm 5'5" but I only use the platform for step workouts (my hip can't handle the risers).
 
I can reach up and touch the ceiling in my basement, so it's probably around 7'. The only issue I have is when Cathe has me extending the stability ball overhead. Step work is no problem. Leg presses might get dicey if I ever go over 14" - but that won't happen, so I'm safe.
 
Hey Laura! I workout in my basement. It's unfinished, but it's my own space. I would say that my ceiling is about 7 ft and I am 5'3".

I have no problem with power 15's or any step moves on 6" step. The only trouble I have is in Drill Max, the segment where she uses the stability ball for cardio and she does the pendulum. When I raise the ball over my head to do that side-to-side move, I can't fully extend my arms. But I still feel it in my shoulders so it's all good!

My basement ceiling is unfinished as well so the wood beams are exposed. I haven't gotten splinters on my hands yet, so that's gotta count for something!!

It's hard for me to imagine actually hitting the ceiling, since I'm only 5'0", but I'm thinking that with your arms extended - you might hurt your knuckles. I'd keep looking for a house with a higher ceiling in the basement.

That's also something that is on my high priorities when I buy my next house. Finished basement, 2 bathrooms and a safe place for my daughter to ride her bike.
 
The ceiling height in my workout area is 7' and I'm 5'8". It's a pain for me, but I deal with it by just being more careful with the overhead moves. It is still possible for me to do them without hitting myself, I just cannot get too exuberant! The only thing I really cannot do is anything overhead with the ball. That's just not going to happen. If I was about 4" shorter, it would probably be fine though, so you may do fine with a 7' ceiling. It would be nice if there was some way you could take your step over there and "test" it out!
 
I'm 5'5" and work out in a room with an 8' ceiling. I don't know what Power 15s are, but I've never had a problem with hitting the ceiling, even with the stability ball during DM. Then again, I probably don't get that much height when I jump... :)

I am in a part- finished basement - open rafters. I'm 5'8" and can reach up and put my hands flat on the rafters. I just am very careful I occasionally bang my knuckles but not too often. You just have to be aware of where you are. The prob I run into is trying to do overhead presses, I have to make sure the weights go between the rafters or I end up banging them, and that is uncomfortable. You'll get used to it. It will be ok.
