CATS and Cathe/Working out

Hi. I had to share this with you all. I was doing Cathe's MIS the other day, and was on the endless squat section. I think I was around #16 of the 32 or so squats, when my little (10 lb) cat decided to jump up and add his weight the the barbell.

He was purring widely as he straddled the barbell at the back of my neck and I completed the next 16 squats. Still, the kitty wouldn't move. Finally, I went to lift the barbell up and there was Haroun (my cat), straddling the barbell and still purring...

Strange kitty. ! He has a thing about me being in the workout room. Every time I'm in there doing weights (he knows better than to get involved in a cardio session), he has to come in and rub my legs, scream incessantly, and generally provide a silly distraction....

So when I do Mindy Mylrea's tapes and she says "pick up your kid, your cat...", I am thinking, exaclty!
:)

That is so funny - I love hearing cat stories!

I have two cats myself and I sure can't imagine either one of them balancing on my bar - especially during squats.

Kitty Spice likes to snuggle up next to me during abs and get right under me during push-ups. She is not so small (15 big lbs!) and certainly makes the push-ups much harder!!!

We love 'em though!

What a riot! How on earth did she jump up that high? Did she start out on your step bench? Our Chelsea is just like Haroun in that she will not come near me while doing cardio, but let me sit down at the computer, to talk on the phone or do weight work, she is right there screaming at me to pick her up! Not sure how she can think that talking on the phone, computer work & WEIGHTWORK fall in the SAME catagory! Ha! She gets up on my step and stands on her back two feet, waving her two front paws at me trying to reach me as I squat, lunge, whatever! They are just a funny animal, aren't they? Thanks for sharing and be careful with that EXTRA 10 pounds during squats!:p

One of my cats joins me for floorwork (yesterday, he was snuggling on my arm while I was doing lower ab curls), but I discourage him from hanging around during weight work (he has jumped up on my chest while I've been doing bench presses or flyes).

I've heard of a book showing a women using a cat as a resistance device....perhaps your cat is reading behind your back!

That's too funny. My cat always follows me into the workout room, but usually he just sleeps while I grunt and groan and suffer. Once in a while he'll open one eye and look at me like "omg, you should take a relax pill, mortal" and then go back to sleep. Except when I am doing pushups or abs - then he likes to come up and back his butt into my face! How annoying!

Gotta love them don't you?
:)

That's a funny story!
Just the other day my dog dropped her toy barbell right on my face as I was doing situps. I guess she wanted attention.:D }(

That is so funny! My dog joins me when I do leg work on the floor. Whenever I'm doing the lift lifts on KV's Great Weighted Workout, my dog puts his front feet on my leg and stands on his hind legs and just goes up and down with my leg lifts...I have a 30lb American Eskimo!

My cats also love it when I'm working out. And they have become increasingly bold in the last few years, as in the beginning, they were scared out of their minds over what was going on. I have on little cat in particular that is very skittish... but recently she has been getting in my way during my workouts... She even gets underneath my step when I'm doing cardio! She just sits there and tries to attack the slightly moving step and my feet. And she's almost 12 years old, too. A couple of weeks ago, I was doing sit-and-stands and she got right up on the step and I sat right on her! She screamed of course, but wouldn't move. She decided she didn't care if I was working out or not, the step was hers. I was laughing so hard I couldn't finish those squats anyway. I have a bigger cat who just likes to snuggle when I'm doing weights... And hugs my ankles if I try to move them, just like a little kid. They're so adorable, I wouldn't have it any other way.

So funny! My old roommate's cat used to sit under me while I was doing pushups and he wouldn't move when I squashed him either, and he would curl up in my lap while I was doing a cross legged stretch. When I first got my kitty Poppy last year and she was tiny she would come and sit on the end of my step while I was doing Cathe cardio (needless to say I stopped and moved her) even now I always keep an eye peeled for her when I am doing cardio, she runs around with her toys while I'm working out. She's also my buddy during cool downs, especially when I'm really sweaty.

Love the kitties!

perfect timing on the topic! my hubby and i just got a new maine coon kitten two days ago, and i was just wondering how he's going to react to my workouts... i fear that he is going to insist on wrapping himself around my feet like he does when i'm walking around the house, and that could be dangerous! hope i don't have to shut him out of the room, ha ha... my 3 yr. old cat, sebastian, is terrified when i am working out. if he walks into the living room while i'm working out, he will bolt past me as fast as he can. it's hilarious!

This made me laugh:D I have two cats-both gray and both boys, but they are not related. The one is large, and the other one is skinny and very active. He LOVES to bother me when I workout. I don't know if the sweat attracts him or what (I hope I didn't gross anyone out). He gets nuts-he purrs loudly, tries to crawl up my legs. When I do floor work, he flops down on my stomach and just lays there. Or, he will just keep rubbing up against my leg( by the way, he IS fixed). It's gotten so bad that I keep a spray bottle in my exercise room. One squirt usually does the trick, and he will leave. He is a pest, but I love him. The other cat doesn't even dream of being in the same room as me when I exercise. He likes to sleep in peace and quiet all day.

Gee, I'm glad I started this topic, because it provided some GREAT laughter for the day. I particularly liked the story of the cat hiding underneath the step and swatting the moving foot as it moves across the step.. .. THAT you should get on video!

I didn't realize how many companions Haroun has in the cat-loves-to-bother-mom-when-she-works-out category!!! The spray bottle is a good idea! I Have a friend who keeps one by her bed so she can squirt the cat when it wants to wake her up in the morning. ...

Thanks for the smiles and have a great day!
