Cathe will you help my hubby? Jerry is trying to lose weight and is only eating once a day. I told him this will backfire because his metabolism will slow down and he could even end up gaining more weight! I also told him that he needs to start some form of exercise program. I can't wait for you new beginner DVD's as he might be able to do them. He also has hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol) and says that if he does'nt eat three times a day his cholesterol will go down. Oh my gosh, I can not figure out his reasoning because to me there is no reasoning behind his thinking. He also says he does not want to eat three times a day because when he starts eating he can not stop! Cathe, Jerry will listen to you. Will you please give him some advice. Thank you!
 
Sorry, not Cathe here, but you need to get your DH to go to a registered dietician. His thoughts on nutrition are way off. I can tell you know that also. Sounds like he needs a third party to lead him in the right direction.
 
He definitely will gain weight if he only eats one meal a day. His body will think it's starving and will start storing additional fat to keep alive. He needs to eat, at a minimum, 3 meals per day (he may even want to eat 5 small meals per day). You indicated that when he starts eating he can't stop. What is he eating that is causing this (I am guessing it's carbs such as bread and pasta -- I'm not talking about fibrous, slow burning complex carbs such as veggies, sweet potatoes, etc).

He should also cut out the red meats and eat leaner proteins such as fish, chicken, and turkey. This should help him lower his cholesterol.

Of course, doing exercise, both cario and weight training, will help speed up his metabolism; enabling him to eat more food without gaining fat.

You may want him to read Cliff Sheats' Lean Bodies book. This book mentions that you will lose weight by eating more (of the correct) food. I own this and his cook book and really enjoy it.
