Cathe, who trains YOU?

Cathlete
I've always considered you my own bargain personal trainer. ;) But I'm assuming you need to re-certify periodically, that you probably do continuing ed just to stay on the cutting edge, and that your innovation & brilliant routines start somewhere...........like, I know you started with step & kickboxing came after, so I'm curious about where you got your KB education & cert? Do you have a favorite instructor?

I've always wondered.......your stuff is genius, & I'm assuming you're taking concepts from others, refining them & giving them your own unique style. Or maybe I'm not giving you enough credit, & you come up with it all on your own. :)

Cool question! Please do tell, Cathe...but only if applicable. (Personally, I've always just suspected she received her special 'workout routine powers' from the One Ring she found in Middle Earth :D)

Hi LauraMax :)

Fun question....

I gather ideas and concepts from many places. Anywhere from fitness conferences, to my kids sports practices, to watching kids on the playground. Aside from the numerous professional fitness certifications I've acquired over the years (and need to take CEC courses every two years to uphold), I also read trade magazines, chat with fitness peers and other professional athletes, visit universities and chat with their exercise science and athletic staff, meet with clinical nutritionists, attend lectures, and take other fitness classes across the country to see what other people do too.

You asked specifically about my Kickboxing certification and that I got thrrough Lisa Gaylord's program and also took another through AFAA. I also worked with professional fighters and MMA specialists over the last few years while gathering info for my various martial arts based workouts.

I don't really have a favorite instructor, I enjoy what each one has shown and shared with me. What I have learned though from working with so many in martial arts is how differently everyone teaches, how differently they do things and how differently they communicate what they do. For example, some do martial arts in shoes and some in barefeet, some call a cross punch a reverse punch, or a power punch, your knock out punch, or your #2 punch. Some hold their fists differently, aim their knuckles during their jabs differently, side kick with the side blades of their foot while others kick with the heel of their foot. While all techniques and terms are exceptable (it just depends where their martial arts roots stem from) it does make designing a workout a bit more of a challenge.

I hope this gives you a little more insight about me. Have a great weekend Laura :)

Why are you so good to us?

Here it is that you devote such a HUGE amount of time, physical effort and conscious energy to all this behind-the-scenes leg (or rather total body ;)) work and we jump in to reap the benefits by simply flicking to FitTV, putting in a disc or clicking onto the forums. My, how we're completely spoiled by you, Cathe! Please know it's all very much appreciated.

Cathe,

I have stolen a couple of ninja moves from watching my little guy play lol!!

Love you Cathe, keep those cool moves coming!

Bri :D
