Cathe when you say

Hi Cathe - thank you for teaching me so much through your videos and these forums. I'm getting great results and feel great for an old lady;)

When you say you are using 35 pounds on the barbell is that the total combined weight of plates and bar or just the plates? I have a barbell set similar to the one you use on many of of your DVD's. With all the plates on its 50 pounds, I have no idea what the bar weights if anything.

Thank you so much.

Carmen.

yes, you need to add the weight of the bar (especially when using the larger Olympic sized or more "professional" versions) because you lift that weight too :) Even if it is only a 5 # bar, that's still 5 #'s more than the plates and you want to take credit for every pound! ;)

I hope you don't mind me answering. When Cathe says the weight she's using she's including the barbell weight.

ETA: Oops Dani, I guess we answered at the same time.

A tip: If you don't know how much your bar weighs, you can weigh yourself while holding it, then weigh yourself alone and subtract to get the weight of the bar.

I have been wondering the exact same thing. i hope some one answers who knows....

From SNM:
A MET value of 1, represents an average person’s resting metabolism. Mets were created as a way for you to keep tabs on how much intensity you’re bringing to your workout. Most daily activities that you do daily have a Met value of less than 3. Walking has a known MET value of 4-7 while stepping on a 6 to 8 inch step has a Met value of around 8.5. Met values are used to calculate calories burned for an activity.
