Cathe Weighted Gloves - Feedback Needed

NancyAZ

Cathlete
Hi, all. I've been searching for some weighted gloves locally and haven't had any luck, so I'll be ordering online. I have seen a few posts about Cathe's product and that the gloves slip around on your hands. I was wondering if this is a common problem or one that just a few people have. I really don't want to have to wrap my hands every time I use the gloves. I like the idea of the open palm, but wonder whether the more complete glove is the better way to go. Thanks.

Hi Nancy... I've been searching high and low for something better too, but I haven't found them quite yet... I have the same issue, so have I got the magic answer for you! I'd say Duct tape, but it's not THAT obvious, although close! LOL!!! I use regular athletic tape and wrap it once around my palm around the back of the glove... you can either leave it on and slip the gloves on and off (sometimes a little tough while the tape is still sticky), or you can make it so you can open/remove each time... It's a little bit of a pain, but it works!

ETA: Just found these on Amazon... they are not open palmed but sound like they won't flop either...

http://www.amazon.com/Title-Boxing-...e=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1231045744&sr=8-1 These are not adjustable though...

I got my Cathe gloves at Sports Authority I believe... both SA and Sports Chalet have a large selection of Cathe products :)

Dani,

I have those weighted gloves you posted in the amazon link. I also own 2 pair of TJ gloves (open palm) and hate them. The weight feels terribly off balanced to me.
I love the closed palm style. They feel more balanced around my hands, and the wrist wrap gives them added support. I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. They feel great on. :)

I love my cathe weight gloves. Maybe the issue with them moving around is that people bought them to big. Mine are a size small and I love them, they fit perfect! The other thing I have done with them is to wear my regular lifting gloves and then put the weight ones on over them. I do this when I want more weight for just a few exercises....it still works and feels good....
Good Luck

Hi hrcfitness: the weighted Cathe gloves only come in one size fits most, unlike her lifting gloves that are sized... so for me, I find that with my short stubby hands the weight gloves are a little floppy on the back of my hand, so I use tape to secure them. I also like the open palm idea of her gloves, but another member (Dela) suggested to try boxing wraps under and then the weighted gloves over...

The other thing that I wanted to use the open palm gloves is when I am incrimentally increasing my DB's but maybe I'll just order some Paceweights or find magnets for that... I also have ankle/wrist weights up to 10 #'s that I could use instead for that for a little more incrimental boost, since there are 5 lbs between my higher weighted DB's, so what good is just 1 lb from the glove when you might need more?

Cynthia; I'm going to order those Amazon gloves... I beileve they even have a 1.5 lb per glove version if these are the correct ones, for when I do my KB workouts :) thanks for the recommendation!

Nancy: hope this helps you some... why do you want to stick with the open palm glove? for the reason I mention, or just for comfort? I think having two different options would be a great alternative... one for KB and the other (palmless) for adding to DB/BB's... Let us know what you think :)

I have Cathe's weighted gloves...my hands are considered small and I have no problems with them, no slippage, very comfortable, using them in kick boxing classes, when doing the ellipitical and sometimes when I want incremental weight (tho' I mostly use my PACE weights for small increases - very easy to do).

Like them tremendously. I highly recommend cathe's weighted gloves...

The ones in this link are the ones I was looking at online, too. Around here the only place I've found Cathe products is Big 5 -- Sports Authority doesn't carry them and we don't have Sports Chalet. I'm definitely going to go to Big 5 and see if they have any in stock to try on and check out before I place an order.

Cynthia, thanks for your feedback. One of the things I wondered about with the open-palm style was that "balanced" feeling.

I'm confused about the size thing, too. According to the site you can order them in sizes. I just tried adding all three sizes to my cart and it does show the different size selections. But I've also read here on the board that they are only one size. I guess I need to contact CS directly to find out for sure.

Dani, thanks for all of your input. Yes, I was thinking along the same lines as far as being able to still lift a dumbbell or barbell while wearing the gloves. I also have wrist and ankle weights, though, that I can use if I decide to go with the full glove.

Did you order yours by size?

Hi Nancy... the weighted gloves do not come in sizes, even though on the ShopCathe it offers you the selection.. the description says "one size", but it was concluded that this was just an error for this item... Only the other workout gloves come in sizes... There really is no way to size these since the wrist bands are velcro adjustable, and you just slip your 4 fingers into the loops and your thumb through the thumbhole (go figure :)) and that's all... the pouch sits on the back of your hands and you wrap your fingers around the loop holes and hold on :)

That's kind of what I thought. It sounds like some people got lucky in that the gloves just happen to fit their hands just right.

Thanks to you and everyone for all of your feedback. I'm going to get to Big 5 and see if they have any that I can try before I buy.

Just wanted to edit this to add that I did go to Big 5 today and tried on the one pair of Cathe weighted gloves that they had. They seemed to fit me very well and I did buy them. Thanks again for everyone taking time to help me out.
