I was reading on your website that you breastfed. I was just wondering if you was able to gain any muscle or just maintain while breastfeeding. If you don't mind my asking, how long did you breastfeed? My son is 8 weeks and I have been breastfeeding exclusively. I do your workouts 6 days a week, usually 3 days cardio & 3 days weights. I started back exercising about 4 weeks ago. I don't want to get discouraged thinking I should be seeing results (muscle gains) when it isn't possible. I have lost all baby weight and still have little muscle left (lost some while pregnant)but my abs haven't yet appeared. Thanks Cathe, you are my inspiration.
 
Hi Angela! My memory is fading on this but I believe I breast fed until I was cleared to return to exercise (somewhere around 6 to 7 weeks). I don't think I used any heavy weight at that time so I can't fully answer your question. I do know that I kept an extra 5 pounds on me until I stopped breastfeeding. Initially breastfeeding did help me lose weight quickly, however, not the last 5 to 10 pounds, since the body needs extra body fat to produce milk. Once I stopped breastfeeding that last few pounds came off quickly. I think it was around the 4 month mark that I felt back to the pre-pregnancy me again. The only thing that took about a year to come back was my waistline (which never fully returned back to its original state but got better). Even though my weight was back to normal, my waistline still appeared thicker.
 
Thanks for answering my question, I think you look amazing. I don't know how long I plan on breastfeeding but I know that I am still improving my fitness level. So maybe my abs are "there" just under the layer of fat needed for breastmilk.

I find that part so amusing. Right now I’d stand trial for abs like Cathe's. I forget which one of you ladies uses the quote ‘strong is sexy’. That’s right on point because I find after-baby she looks so much more solid, more womanly. Pre baby I found her kind of skinny macaroni (but still adorable as ever) :)
