Cathe or anyone: help with pushups

I always feel pushups more in my shoulders than in my chest. I've moved my hands around and it doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions or tips would be great!!

Thanks,
Janet

What I have found is essential, is to be sure I keep my abs and my frame tight. Don't let yourself drop through your shoulders, keep your head in alignment. Otherwise, you do lose focus from the chest and it shifts to the shoulders. I can also always tell when my abs and low back are sagging, because the push-ups actually become more difficult. Think of making your body a solid board from head to toe (or knees, if your working from your knees). Move as one solid plank.

Clearly I need to jump on this forum more often because I had no idea I was doing pushups wrong. In fact, I've been wondering why I can't do more than one from my feet instead of my knees. I just tested this and I can do more now using this technique!

This is great advice.

I tend to have a sore right shoulder if I try to lift too much. Last night, I was doing Power Hour and had a loaded barbell for chest presses. I was doing fine for a little while than noticed my shoulder getting sore and lowered my weight quickly.

It was a reminder for me that chest and shoulder (and actually all muscles) are closely related and I have to practice good form and use appropriate weights to really work the desired muscle.
