Cathe, Need your help - step ??

I am concerned about bulking up my thighs (i seem to have that tendency, lately). I love the intensity and variety of stepping, and I was just wondering if it would make a difference if I lowered my step height?? Would this decrease the amount of bulk I might put on, or would it just decrease the intensity of my workout? I really would appreciate any opinions on this matter...I would hate to give up stepping altogether, or would I be better off just doing step say, once a week???...help!

Hi Bonne! I would lower your step and continue to give the workout your all on a lower step. The intensity would temporarily feel lessened because of your body being so used to stepping at a higher height. But what I like to suggest for this is that you do all other types of cardio activities for two weeks (anything but step). Then when you come back you will not even notice the difference of the lower step height because you have not stepped in a while. But remember, still keep the intensity up by giving the workout your all on this lower height. Take Care!

Thanks Cathe! The day I posted this question I did use a lower step, it was hard to get used to...I will try your suggestion of using other forms of aerobics (other than step) and then try using the lower step again...that really makes a lot of sense! Thanks again for the advice!

Can I horn it here? I have legs that you may say "bulk", but I do a lot of step tapes, some on an 8" step. My experience has been that with cross training (with one LONG kick box tape every week), like Cathe suggested, plus weight training (light weights and high reps) my legs have gotten smaller,

All that plus (here goes the broken record) following a clean diet and portion control will not result in bulky legs. I would really hate to give up step, so let this be a testimonial. I've been stepping for two years now.
