Cathe -- Measuring Bodyfat

JumpHigher

Cathlete
Hi Cathe,

I'm torn (like an old sweater) between how best to measure bodyfat. Is it most accurate using calipers? I really would like to know the best, most accurate, method -- calipers or bodyfat scale?

Thanks a bunch!

i'm not cathe but i can tell you from personal experience that the scales are totally inaccurate. mine will tell me that my body fat is 40% depending on when i do it and i know that it is nowhere near that high. i have a set of calipers that i use at home and i put those numbers into a website on my computer and that is how i get my bodyfat percentage. i had it double checked at the gym so i know that i did it right.

Trish,

Thanks for that info. My scale said my bodyfat is 24.8%, but my personal trainer said it's 16%. What I'm thinking is that with calipers you measure three places (triceps, abdominal area, & thigh). I'm wondering if the scale is picking up the bodyfat in the breast area and calculating that in, which would never factor in with caliper measurements.

Thanks for sharing. :)
