Cathe low impact in the morning-works great!

Happy Friday everybody:

Just wanted to tell you that this morning I got motivation (some where???) and got up at 4:30am to give the morning workouts another try. Well, I know full well that my 34 year old body is not up to a complete hardcore Cathe workout that early. So, I grabbed SJP and did the step aerobic portion without a step and it worked great! I started with only that portion to see what I thought about doing it low impact and it was great! I'll add more time as I get the A.M. workout routine down, but for now that was enough to give me a taste of how GREAT it feels to get the workout out of the way. Now, if I have time after work I can do more, but at least I have something done already. :) :) :)

I'm hoping to graduate to doing a full fledged Cathe workout step, sweat and all, but for now it's a good start. I will do a "normal" Cathe workout in the evenings, too, until I can make that transition.

Take care, Marcia. :)

I do that too. The premixes o SJP are great. I also just do the step portion of C&W when I'm short on time and/or motivation.

Hi Marcia.

I think you'll find that working out in the early mornings is a great time to do it. During the workweek, I workout from 4:30 a.m. to around 6 a.m. It took me a couple of months to train myself to get up that early. There were some days where it was a real struggle, but my persistence paid off. Now, it's my favorite time to workout, and I'm able to do any Cathe workout I choose (even the IMAXes!). It does help to naturally be a morning person, though. Keep up the good work, but if in a couple weeks you find yourself less motivated to get up that early, don't give up. It's worth the inital "pain". The only downside is that if you have pets, they'll think that you should get up that early on your restdays and on weekends (which can be very annoying!). I guess another downside is that you'll likely need to go to bed earlier than you are used to.

Take Care,
Shelbygirl

Hi,

My alarm goes off at 4am and I am usually dressed and working out by 4:15 am. I have 45-50 minutes to workout and I have progressed to Cathe, spinervals, treadmoves and really any workout I want to. I have been doing this for years and it is a nice feeling to have the workout completed and if I have time in the evening when I get home I will usually go for a 20-30 minutes walk/jog on the treadmill or a yoga/stretch tape.

Good luck to you and we are all there with you working out in the mornings : )

All of you ultra-early morning exercisers who start your workouts within 20 minutes of getting out of bed:

Do you have anything to eat/drink before you start your workout?

Do you do any stretching?

Do you go to bed before 10pm on a regular basis?

Do the neighbours ever complain about the music that early in the morning (if you live in an apartment or townhouse)?

Do you workout daily?

Thanks!
Sandra

Hi Sandra:

I only had a glass of water before I started working out. I'm thinking about having a cup of java, though, beforehand that might give me a little more energy.

I do light stretching.

I usually go to bed around 9pm or so.

I live in the country so the music isn't a problem.

Yep, I workout daily.

Hope this helps. :) Marcia.

Hi Sandra.

I workout at 4:30 a.m., and do not eat or drink anything beforehand (other than water).

If I am doing one of Cathe's workouts, I do not stretch beforehand; I just do the warmup included in the workout. If I am lifting weights on my own, or riding the bike/elliptical, then I stretch out a bit first.

I don't remember the last time I went to bed AFTER 10 p.m.! LOL

I live in a single house, so no complaints from neighbors, other than a few comments about my basement light being on so early in the mornings. (Although, I have to wonder what they are up to if they are noticing my basement lights on at 4:30!).

I workout 4 weekdays at 4:30, as well as on Sat and Sun (but not quite so early).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the info, Shelbygirl and Marcia. I'm considering moving my workout time from 7:45am to 5:30am, yet wondering if it is truly achievable. Adjusting the clocks back an hour this month will allow me to get out of bed technically an hour earlier, without actually getting up an hour earlier (make sense?). Might work. I'll have to try it and see.

Take care,
Sandra
