Cathe, I need some advice about knees and running

SRP

Hi, Cathe - or whoever else would like to chip in:

I used to run about 3 or 4 miles a day, but I had to quit due to a knee problem. Nothing serious that required medical attention, but it happened twice, the second time worse than the first. It affected that ligament on the inside of the knee, as far as I can tell. Anyhow, I figured I'd better quit before it came to "strike three and you're out." That's when I switched to step aerobics, oh about two or three years ago.

I would REALLY like to work running back into my exercise routine, on some sort of rotation basis with step and weights. My knee hasn't given me much trouble since I stopped running - BUT sometimes it gets right to the edge and threatens me pretty heavily. I wonder if I actually should start running again.

Can you please give me some advice about how to make my knee behave?

Thank you!
Shannon

Thanks for the Web site, Julie! Very interesting, and probably one I should thoroughly explore.

When is your baby due?

Shannon

Baby is due November 8th! I have my big u/s in 3 weeks and we hopefully will find out "who" is in there! :)

Well, I think running is not an option at all for me. The stupid knee is acting up, and all I did was increase the number of squats I do. Stupid thing.

Oh, I've tried power walking, with that odd stride. Never could figure out how to do it - it always felt like I was about to dislocate my hip. If I ever decide to get serious about that, I imagine I'll have to find a personal trainer so I can master the stride.

In the winter, I'm not so antsy about this, because I can get out and walk in the woods, etc. Down here in the summer, we have ticks, chiggers, snakes, and other unpleasantness that makes walking anywhere besides the road just plain nasty. And when I'm on the road, I always have an urge to break out running!

I have no problem when I run. However, whenever I did lung, squat and jump, it really bothers me for a few days. I felt the muscles around my front knee area got big stretched, and then when I walk after doing those exercises, at some angles, I felt like my knee jerk. Do anyone know what problems did I have?

Thanks
