Cathe...I feel your pain :(

Hi Cathe,

I was so sorry to hear about your injury and I want you to know you are not alone. On Saturday I was sparring and went to throw sidekick when all of the sudden I felt a searing pain in my calf. My sports doc thinks I either tore my gastroc or possibly have a small tear where the achilles tendon meets the muscle (that's where the bruising was). I have an MRI scheduled for tonight. The most unfortunate thing is I am 2 weeks away from the first (of 3) exams I need to pass in order to test for my black belt. I have worked so hard for the last 3 1/2 years to finally reach this point and now I am laid up. I've gone from tears to anger to frustration to just plain sadness.

So I raise my ice pack, compression bandage and advil to you in a toast. Sending you big {{{{{{ HUGS }}}}}} and many wishes for a speedy recovery.

JJ

PS. I preordered and will wait as long as it takes because your workouts are worth waiting for:)

JJ,

Not to hijack your post to Cathe - but just to tell you I feel for you - for I have been in the martial arts for three years and I am testing in April for my black belt - all of that hard work to have an injury is so depressing.

I love to spar and have been spending 6 to 8 hours a week at the studio - having an injury has been my one of my worst nightmares.

I will say a few prayers for you, as I have been for Cathe, too.

Cheryl-
Thank you for your response. CONGRATS and good luck on your black belt exam. Be sure to post in April when you pass so we can celebrate:)

Sheila -
Your kind words meant alot. I appreciate it.

I get my MRI results tomorrow and I'm just praying that it is only a pull/strain. If that's the case, I should still be able to test in June. If it is a tear, then I'm laid up and will have to wait until fall or later to test. Keeping my fingers crossed:)

JJ,

Please let us know the results of your MRI - hopefully, it is only a pull/strain. I am praying for you.

Hi JJ,

I am so sorry about your injury. I have a DD who earned her black belt this past November, and she has suffered a few injuries as well-last time it was a torn hamstring from a side kick when her foot got hung up in the bag. (This one happened at a demo at the high school...in front of an auditorium full of kids!) I am very aware of how Martial Artists train for the honor of testing for that belt, so hats off to ya and I do hope you recover fully and quickly!

Julie, who apologizes for intruding on your thread....

Julie-
No need to apologize for adding to this thread:) You must be so proud of DD for getting her black belt. Sorry to hear about her past injuries....torn hamstring...OUCH. She gives me hope that I can overcome this.

What makes this even more upsetting is that I was going to be testing with my husband, DS and DD. It is the first time the school has had an entire family testing together so they were making a big deal about it. I feel like I am disappointing everyone.

Anyway...my MRI shows a severe strain to the achilles tendon and gastrocnemius but no tear. I have to wear a walking boot for the next 3-4 weeks even on my vacation to Floridax( The Physical Therapist was more optimistic about my recovery in time for the next screening in April. So time will tell.....

Thanks again to all for your comments and well wishes. I'll keep you posted.
