Cathe I feel like a failure/Everyone

Cathe I did the new 4 day split HIS, Having trouble getting moves, I feel like a failure, Leaves me wondering: Will I ever get these new moves? Seems complicated.
Fast foot work.
Rocky;(

Hi Rocky! Not Cathe - but one who does not get moves very fast. Keep trying. I was doing HIS today and instead of turning I stayed facing the tv and "FINALLY" got some of the steps. Maybe that will help....

KEEP TRYING and stay at it. Although it does feel intimidating and discouraging at times - it's worth benefits and FUN in the end:D

Hang in there, I'll be pulling for ya!!!

(Sorry to butt in Cathe)

Don't worry Rocky, getting four new workouts at once can seem overwhelming if you are not familiar with the content. Try watching the workouts when you are folding laundry or something so you aren't wasting your workout time learning them. Then on your workout day, take out another workout that you are familiar with and do that until the last 10 minutes of your cardio workout. Pop out that workout and insert one of the new 4DS cardio workouts and focus on getting just one combo at a time. Keep doing this set up until you are familiar with the content of all the workouts. I hope this helps and btw, I'm not sure if you ever got my PM thanking you for the funny Halloween card. In case you didn't, thanks a bunch. It was so sweet of you :)

Hang in there Rocky! The first couple of times I did HIS, I don't know how many times I had to rewind. And just a couple of days ago, I FINALLY got the shuffle-pivot-hitch kick section. Yay! Just keep at it...you're bound to get it eventually! (Hey, if I can do it, anyone can!)

I would have liked a bit of a preview of some of the more complicated moves (like you did in the intro to Imax2),like a head up on what foot we'll be on to do certain moves.

Rocky: I feel you! You're definitely not the only one frustrated with the choreo vs.cuing in the new workouts.

One thing I can recommend is, as Cathe said, view the workouts again. This time, pay strict attention to what foot is used to start and end each part of a move, , and what side of the step you end up when exiting the step especially on moves you know you had problems with. I find that if I'm on the wrong foot when entering/exiting a move, it often f...utzes up an entire sequence, or makes me feel like a klutz trying to 'correct' my error and get back on the right foot.

Rocky - I'm with you! I work out to ease my frustration not increase it. I'm in the "5 minute walk-though of the sequences chapter, please" camp, and the use of left foot and right foot cues, but..... I've also seen it suggested that you could try to do/learn with workouts without the step first, just to try to learn the sequences, and then build up to the step. (That will also help prevent any potential step-related injuries, too.) That's why I stick with the Bootcamp and Kickbox workouts. Luckily, we have all of those options with the new workouts.

Hang in there Rocky. I have two left feet. Last night I did the first two combos on HIS. The third one is tricky but I know I will get it. The more I do these step routines, the more I'm surprized how much of the step combinations has stuck with me. You will get it by the fourth try, believe me. Have fun stepping!

Hi Rocky (and anyone else having trouble with the new step workouts) :)

I have only ever tried one of cathe's step workouts before and that was IMAX3 - I tried it once and found it so complicated and got so frustrated that I have never played it again. When I tried HIS and LIS of the new series I felt the same frustration - I really do have two-left feet and I am unbelieveably malcoordinated! This time, however, I decided to stick with the workouts and kept trying, and after only 4 weeks I have managed to master both workouts! (I still mess up quite a lot but at least I know what my feet SHOULD be doing, even if they end up doing something else :p)

Anyway, I just wanted to share with everyone how much I now love both the step workouts in 4 day split, and for anyone who's having trouble with them please please stick with them and you'll get there eventually - it really is amazing how the routines seem so complicated and you feel like you'll never follow them and then suddenly everything just seems to click into place :D

Happy stepping!

Sally

PS - I'm now determined to master IMAX3!!

That's so funny. That's the way I do it when I'm learning because I know I don't get much of a workout standing with the remote, staring at the tv in stunned confusion. Do a regular workout (to ensure you actually GET a workout) followed by a small section of the new workout - until you have the whole thing. Years from now you'll be muttering to yourself "I can't believe I ever had trouble with this!" But I sympathize. It takes me 2 or 3 times longer to learn routines than most people so I know how you feel. Ultimately, If I am physically capable of doing the moves (unlike with plyo, for me, at the moment) I know I just need to get past the whole learning period, until the NEXT dvd comes out and it's "Here we go again."

Hey, I don't know about y'all, but I get a pretty a great workout while laughing at myself because I can't get it together or I'm on the wrong foot.

At least you're laughing. I used to get teary and quit (back in my FIRM days). But now, I'm just a little bulldog, forging ahead and running into furniture...

Thanks Everyone for all your great suggestions.
I really sometimes feel like I am the only one who can't pick it up the first time doing it.
The second time I did the workout I did much better.
And these step routines are so fun when you learn them.
The jumping over the step part, I haven't mastered.
Nor hitch kick, maybe the third time will be a charm.
I have to say when my husband does workouts with me, if I look over at him and he is bopping around trying to get the moves etc. I start laughing. And then I start saying just watch me.
He ends up jogging around the basement.
Thanks again everyone, you are all so nice, hope to meet all of you
one day, maybe if we are lucky enough to go on a Cathe Road Trip;-)
