Cathe High Step/Other Uses

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to pass this along for what it is worth.

Don't want to get into the details too much so as to bore anyone (and I was sarcastically criticized back in Sept. by a few people for it) but this is a just in case type of idea.

My father is critically ill with cancer. He is a small guy - 5'6" and now weighs in at 106. He has a hospital bed in his room. This was the best bed we could get and it will not raise or lower except by hand crank (the legs and back do raise and lower thought). Anywho - he was having a hang of a time getting in and out of the bed. We tried everything in the house and it was either too high or too low. I looked at the usual places around here and it HIT ME - A CATHE HIGH STEP!!!!!!!! I ordered it and it came today and it is perfect. We have it at 6 inches and he is so happy.

Everything I saw at the stores was either too high (lowest I saw was 8 inches) and they looked very unstable. He feels very comfortable with this and since he is on a feeding tube at night he can easily get in and out of bed to go to the bathroom

I just wanted to share that - not for the sympathy - but just in case anyone else has to go throught something similar.

And - when he is napping (which is a lot these days) I can bring it into my bedroom and use it for a quick workout. Bonus!

Enjoy your weekend and GO SPARTANS!!

(((((HUGS))))I am so sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your dad! Glad Cathe's high step is working for you dad!

Baylian-----we use the high step in my house for my younger son and his bunk beds. When we first brought the bunks into the house, and even though the 'sides' (meaning where a head board and foot board usually are) were the actual 'ladder or steps' up to the top bunk, that last step down from the rung to the floor was scaring coming down backwards and not being able to see. I put the high step next to the bunks and viola.

Oh....and I bring the high step with about 6 risers upstairs to the living area (I workout in the basement) when I need to change lightbulbs! LOL

Gayle

p.s. sorry to hear about your dear father.

{{{{{hugs}}}}} for you and your Dad.

Along the same line, when I had my ACL surgery a few years ago, I put the high step in the bath tub so I could sit and take shower. It was a perfect fit in a 30" wide tub.

Baylian, I send prayers to you and your dad.

And yep, I've used the step for a number of things, including lightbulbs and reaching the water shutoff in the basement. :)

Baylian, praying for Dad and your family.

I have considered using the high step as a couch side table. It seems just the right height.

When my 17 month old was about 6 monhts my mother stayed with me for awhile when I went back to work and she couldn't reach into the crib to put the baby down for her nap. My mom is rather short. We were actually a little worried about how the naps would go if wasn't in her crib. Then it dawned on me. The high step was the perfect solution.

Why would you be criticized for finding another use for Cathe's high step?
I'm sure she wouldn't mind...in fact I would think she would be delighted that this is helping your father.
So sorry to hear about your father's illness.

First - THANK YOU for all the kind words and thoughts. I have been here very infrequently lately and really just wanted to post about how much this step has helped. I really appreciate the responses - truly!

Second - WOW - I didn't realize how many ways to really use this thing. It sits in my basement at home (sort of like out of site/out of mind) so I have really enjoyed reading all the different ways people use the high step.

Third - I guess I didn't explain myself quite right. As you know the boards were pretty contentious leading up to the election. Anyway words were exchanged and in the process I had noted what I was going through and this one person in particular said some pretty down right mean things. I fired back some mean things also which wasn't right but in the heat of the moment. The comments to me were disparaging remarks about my situation with my father. Really cold remarks. So hence, now if I choose to mention it in a thread I do a preemptive comment.

On that I am going to have a cold one. I feel God puts us in places where he thinks is best. Trying to keep that in mind I am also missing my sons Jr. High Band concert way back in MI tonight. It's not been easy but . . .My DH is holding down the homestead and he has been great. I told him to take lots of pic's and video.

Thanks again one and all . . .!!!!!

WOW - my niece (16 yrs old) may have to have her entire hip replaced. I will keep this in mind for her!

I am so sorry to learn of your father's illness. It's so tough to watch our loved one's hurt but I'm glad the high step is helping you out. It's kind of blowing my mind how many uses people are finding for this item. Talk about versatile.
