Cathe, do you have a snack at night?

Hi Cathe,

I keep hearing that you should not snack after dinner or at least 3-4 hours before bed. Do you do that? We eat at about 5 or 5:30 p.m. and I am wondering if I just struggle through will I eventually get used to not snacking at night. I never have anything that terrible (usually high fibre cereal) but I wonder if it is just enough calories to get in the way of my weight loss goals. I know that everyone has a different opinion but was just wondering what do you do once dinner is over?

Thanks!

Hi Lora-Kate! You're right, everyone is different and you have to do (or find) what works for you. I have found for me that I can not fall asleep if I am too hungry. To keep this from happening I try to eat my last meal or snack around 2.5 to 3 hours before bed. This works fine for me.

To add to what Cathe already mentioned, a protein shake is a great snack at night. It will help rebuild your muscles (and, bodybuilders do this, too!). I personally wouldn't make a carb my late night snack if you're goal is weight loss.
