Hi Cathe,
I know I couldn't fit that big question in there so I cutit off:p First,I just want to tell you how excited I am about these new workouts.I went on vacation and when I came home ,this is what I came home to! I can't beleive it.You are going to have us so spoiled.
I know I should check with my doc on this and I sort of did and he didn't see the big deal.I workout 6 days a week,running,step,bike....my husband and I are thinking about having a baby and he thinks that I will never conceive unless I keep still;( I can't keep still.I was wondering did you cut back on cardio while you were trying to start your family? You workout alot more then I so I was wondering did you change your workout schedule at all?
Thanks
Lori

I'm not Cathe but I can tell you my experience. I have always fervently worked out (lots of cardio) and never had to cut back to get pregnant. I think the key is not how much you work out but how much body fat you have. If your body fat is so low that you don't regularly menstruate, that is what can give a woman problems. I have never been below 15% body fat and have never stopped menstruating so pregnancy happened quite easily. Good luck.

PS-I kept working out with all 3 pregnancies with no problem, just listen to doctor about exercise guidelines. You will find a wealth of info on that subject in the pregnancy forum.

Thanks, that is pretty much the samething that my doctor said.He said that my body weight hasn't decreased so he doesn't think that there should a problem. But my sister and my husband have sort of formed a tag team and they are telling me to cut back.My periods have been a bit of schedule but my doc said as long as I am having a period every 4-6 weeks then he wouldn't worry about it.
In the mean time we still have decided weather or not we are going to start trying...men!

Lori - OMG you sound just like me. My hubby has been saying the same thing! I am also worries b/c this last period was 2 weeks late! The past 6 months it was RIGHT on time. I sure hope my intense workouts aren't messin' things up!

I am anxious to hear Cathe's response too!

When are you thinking of trying? We are thinking of starting to try in July. I can't wait!

I can't get any staright answers out of my husband. He seroiusly doesn't care if we have one or not.Either way, he is happy, but I really don't think that it is a descision I should be making myself.
My doctor said that as long as my periods were every 4-6 weeks he wouldn't worry about it.And my body weight as drasticly changed, trust me, it hasn't.:p

Hi, Lori

I have been tring to conceive for three years and yet to have any results. This will be my second. I did started excercising three years ago and asked my doctor if this is causing it. He said same thing. As long as I am having regular cycle, should not be worry about. I am still wondering if I should reduce the amount of workouts.

Hi Lori! No, I didn't change my routine around when trying to conceive. For me, I found that if I was stressed over things, I had no luck.

Good Luck!

Just wanted to chime in here too. I was 31, no kids, worked out kinda /sorta had a job where I flew all the time. Got tired of the extra weight and started Weight Watchers and exercising more regularly. Lost 13 pounds, the day I got my 10 weight loss ribbon (a proud moment) was the day I found out I was pregnant, oops. Regular periods and not being stressed out about stuff seemed to have worked, even when I wasn't trying to. Just stay healthy. We were indecisive too about a kid and our son decided to make the decision for us, for the best I might add.

I did need to cut back on exercise

My personal experience is that I did need to cut back on exercise in order to become pregnant. I suspect based on all the other posts here that my case was fairly unusual though. Also, it was very clear to me that there was a problem. I started having irregular bleeding (about 15 days during the month) when I added strength training (3x week) to the cardio I had already been doing (2-3x week). (Perhaps my body just wasn't used to it and it was too much too soon.) The doctor sent me for all sorts of tests including a not-so-comfortable hysterosonogram but never once asked about diet and exercise. I finally decided to cut back on the exercise (especially the strength training) myself. Low and behold, my periods went back to normal and I now have a little baby boy. :) The Doctor just scratched her head. With a little research I was able to find out that in some women, "over exercise" can cause a decrease in progesterone levels and therefore make it difficult to become pregnant, or sustain a pregnancy. I'm not saying that I was exercising more than everyone else, I'm just saying that the level I was doing was obviously too much for me.

Lori, don't worry you will have your baby. Take your vitamins take folic acid, and relax all the time. think about how beautiful your baby will be. Think about eating healthy for your baby and don't worry about your workouts. Soon as you are pregnant your workouts will be shared by your beautiful baby. What is wonderful about that is your baby will be rocked to sleep by your rythmic aerobic motions, and as I found will wake up and kick as you stretch and cool down, it was so cool. Remember to to always only exercice at your Doctors advice , and usually he says yes you can keep up to what you've already been doing. But as time marchs on we do have to modify , I did a step class one hour before being taken to the hospital for my 2nd baby. The only regret I have is not having the time to eat the big roast beef dinner I was cooking at the time.
