Cathe compared to Mindy

I am planning on purchasing the CTX series w/ Circuit Max and Cardio Kicks (8 pack). This would complete all Cathe's DVD's for me. Well, due to March madness and Survivor not being on tonight, I surfed the net. I came across Mindy Mylrea's site. From the brief descriptions of her workouts, they sound very challenging ~ like Cathe. I noticed she uses a BOSU in some videos (I don’t have one), but was wondering if anyone has used her workouts and what they are like.

Hi Susan,

I use her videos and she is tough!! I like to use her for interval training. She is very athletic and isn't dancy at all. She is a bit chatty, but her workouts are great. I recommend her workouts.

Aila:)

I have one, the BOSU dvd that includes "Explode" with Mindy & "Burn" with Kelli Roberts. Fine cueing, tons of enthusiasm. She seems like the ultimate soccor mom that never outgrew the tomboy stage. And the workout is very challenging.

The set was very simple with 2 background exercisers. One did the routine without a BOSU on the floor. I don't know if this is her normal set style. The set & music are really important to some people so I thought I'd warn you.

I have two of her DVDs and like them both. I still like Cathe better, and I think it's just personal preference. I always end up reaching for a Cathe workout instead of anything else I have. I have to make myself do other workouts. When I do, I usually enjoy them. I think you'd probably like Mindy. She's cute and very positive. I usually laugh at some of the things she says, because she jokes around some.

I really like mindy, and find her almost as intense as cathe and lots of fun. My favorite is extreme intervals followed by interval express.

Hi Susan !

I like a lot Mindy. The few cardio workouts I have from her are intense, but doable, and she has great music in them. Her workouts are athletic, with intensity and agility drills, and sports oriented. She is funny too !
I love Strength Express and Awesome Strength. They are more functional fitness, they focus a lot on core/legs/shoulders strength, and they made me improve my form during other strength and cardio workouts. I find those two workouts really tough.
BTW, the cardio workouts I have are really high impact, but I think you can modify on some moves.

I tried quite a few of Mindy's tapes and I've since given them away. Can't stand her or the workouts. They're too choppy and broken up, and there's something about her delivery I can't deal with. But ... to each his own! They're certainly challenging in their own right, but as with any workout, if it annoys me just to watch it, I know I won't do it again. It's just my opinion here, so please don't hurt me. :(

What a perfect description, Debra!!:)

I love Mindy! I did Action Packed hi/lo the other day, and it was so intense and FUN!! I also love the step portion of Action Packed, and the two Express workouts are my other favorites (Interval Express and Strength Express). For some reason, the two "Awesome" workouts aren't faves, although they are good...neither is Extreme Intervals.

Did you decide to try any of Mindy's workouts, Susan?

Deb

Honest opinions delivered with diplomacy usually don't trigger flame wars! I've purchased more than a few workouts that were receiving rave reviews that I didn't like. Maybe if someone had spoken up with some criticisms I would have saved some $$$.

I usually get body pain (knees/lower back) from Mindy's Interval workouts - I stay pain free with Cathe's Cardio/Interval workouts, no matter what workout or step height (6, 8, 10).

Hi Deb,
No I have not tried any other instuctor besides Cathe. I was just fooling around on the internet for a change and came across her website. I've never heard of her before. I dont know, I think I'll stick with Cathe and get the CTX series.

Thanks so much for all the input!

I really like Mindy, but I see her as different from Cathe. She does intense power moves, but the workouts are more . . . disorganized. For example, Extreme Intervals is not really like IMAX with distinct step, blast, and recovery sections. She does a choreographed section, then she turns it into a blast, then she does the choreographed section again and maybe another blast, and then she moves on. Her weight workouts seem less structured than Cathe's as well, but I haven't done as many of them, so I might be wrong on that. She seems to me more interested in functional fitness and non-traditional moves than Cathe does (though that might be changing with Cathe's new series as an indicator).

She is different in demeanor too. Really goofy and chatty, in terms of motivation more than form pointers. She's cute and high-energy, but I could see where her personality might not mesh with everyone.
