Cathe - Barbell Question

Hello Cathe! (and everyone else)
Can you tell me, is there an advantage to using a barbell for your workouts? I have been using dumbells but was curious if there is an advantage to a barbell? I think it may be easier for things like dead lifts etc..
Also, when you are using "40lbs" (for example) is that just the weight of the plates or does it include the weight of the bar?

Hi Lynne! Some exercises feel more natural with a barbell and some feel more natural with dumbbells. While you can get by with either, I always recommend using both pieces of equipment if you will be using my workouts regularly. It will provide better muscle recruitment, variety, and an overall smoother and more effective workout since having both will take the guess work out of figuring out how to modify the exercise with only one type of equipment.

Also, when I say I am using a particular weight, that always includes the weight of the bar. Hope that helps. Have Fun :)
