Cathe, A question about protein powders

Hi Cathe,
I was thinking about using a protein powder and wanted to know if you use them. I probably don't get enough protein and thought this might be a good idea since I am also trying to build muscle mass and definition. I was thinking of a whey or soy protein but I would prefer plant protein if it's beneficial. Which one (or any) would you recommend? I also want one that is as natural as possible, but tasty.
Thanks,
Trina

Hi Trina! Yes, I use a protein shakes when I find myself in situations where I need to get extra protein in me and I don't have time to buy, cook, sit down to, a meal. There really isn't a natural protein shake out there unless you make it from scratch with you own ingredients and drink it right away. I have used Isopure liquid fruit drinks (all protein and no carbs) and I have also used Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein (double rich chocolate flavor) to support my protein intake, but they are not all natural.

My current favorite on hand protein is 4 to 6 ounce pieces of boiled chicken breast kept ready to eat in the fridge.

Good Luck!

You might want to look into hemp protein (highly assimilable, containing all 10 amino acids), yellow pea protein, or a pea/rice protein blend.

"Vega" has a protein smoothie/meal replacement with hemp, maca and chlorella and 25 grams of protein per serving(though it's not the greatest tasting, LOL!). The Vega smoothie infusion has less protein (14? grams/serving), but is very mild flavored: easily disguised with fruit or other flavoring.

www.veganessentials.com carries these, as well as plain hemp protein and some pea and pea/rice blends. (I think these are preferable to soy, which is highly processed, and the isolated/concentrated forms of it are a bit questionable from a health standpoint). Of them all, hemp is the least processed (and therefore the most 'natural').
