Cardio workouts

Hi Cathe!

I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 1 month old baby. I just resumed working out this week and I can see that it is going to be quite difficult to get a solid uninterrupted hour to work out with 2 little ones. For cardio, should I stick to interval workouts since they seem to be more designed for frequent starting and stopping? Am I wasting my time if I try to do a steady state cardio, but have to stop several times? Thanks for everything you do!

I'm not Cathe, obviously, but I'll share my experience with you.
My humble advice to you based on my own recent similar experience is 'do whatever you can, whenever you can'. I was unable to get a solid, 60 minute, uninterrupted workout in for many months after my 2nd baby. I worried myself needlessly about it - thinking I was wasting my time if I didn't do 60 minutes of high intensity continuous exercise. You will eventually get your 'workout time' again. Then you can hit it hard again and your body WILL respond.

Every little bit counts.

Good luck.

Hi, Amy! Congratulations on your new baby. And kudos for thinking about getting mom fit. Rhiannon is absolutely right. Small increments of exercise time can be very effective and something is always better than nothing. And don't forget the double stroller and a nice walk! Or a baby jogger and a child carrier. May your newborn be a good sleeper and many blessing to you and both of your little ones!
