cardio video recommendations

Hi all,

I want to buy some new cardio videos that are a little bit lower in intensity than the ones I already have (circuit max, Interval Max, MIC). I have several taebo tapes as well. I don't really like all step. Hi-lo is ok.

Can anyone suggest some good videos from Cathe or other instructors that are a little less intense than the ones I've mentioned above. Although I love tough workouts, I'm planning on starting to do cardio five days a week and I don't want all of these workouts to be so intense.

Thanks for any suggestions that you can offer!!

Kristie, I only own the CTX series, but it is awesome!!! The cardio sections are intense, but they are short, so you don't get as wiped. There is a mix too - 2 videos are all step, one video is all kickbox, one video is step, hi-lo and kickbox, and one is hi-lo, kickbox circuits with leg weight work and step with leg weight work. This might work for you since you are planning to do cardio 5 days a week - there are exactly 5! (Plus 1 all leg work tape - which is A KILLER!) I also hear that Cardio Kicks is super fun! I ordered it last night, so I can't say for sure, but I'd bet the farm on it! Hope this helps!!!!

Those are definitely three of Cathe's most intense workouts! You do need some lower intensity stuff--good for you for being realistic and not pushing too hard!
I modify a lot of Cathe's stuff because I have problems with my knees, so I would first suggest that with any of her tapes you can lower the intensity by taking out jumps and power moves, and even removing the step entirely (just do the moves on a "pretend" step). Some tapes that I find pretty easy to do this with are Stepworks, PowerMax, and Stepfit.
I also LOVE tapes by Christi Taylor--much more complex choreography than Cathe, but the intensity of her stuff is lower, as she uses a slower beat and doesn't rely on power moves for intensity. don't be intimidated by the complexity--lots of people who have trouble with choreography have caught on.
videofitness.com will also have ideas for you...
good luck!

PS If you want to stick with Cathe stuff (she is the best!), another lower intensity tape is Rhythmic Step--very fun, and not quite as powerful as some.

Any of Charlene Prickett's tapes are great - she has a variety of non-step tapes - she keeps the moves low impact but the intensity is high - she even gives modifications during her workouts to how to modify the moves if you want lower intensity.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I guess I never realized that I could start doing some of the Cathe tapes that I already have at a lower intensity. I lowered the step for Interval Max the other day because I wasn't in for a real hard workout and it was great!

I'm considering trying Cristi Taylor. I've heard so many great things about her. I'm also considering Mindy Mylrea. I know she is tough but I can always lower the intensity on her stuff if I need to. But then when I'm in for a tough workout I'll have it!

Any other suggetions for anyone would be helpful!

Thanks,
Kristie S
