cardio and weights on the same day?

thinsgreat

Cathlete
i read in the sts forum where cathe prefers you do cardio on separate days then weights. is this a standard? i need to lose about 20 pounds and was told to do weights 3 days/week and cardio (45 min) 6 days to burn the fat... is this good advice or should i just do cardio on non weight days?

Not Cathe here but thought I'd chime in anyway. :)

It really depends upon the program you are doing. As for STS, it will be an intense lifting program. It is probably being suggested that you do not engage in cardio on the same day because you will already be working yourself very hard with the lifting. No need to overdo it.

If you are doing a less intense weight program then by all means, go ahead and do cardio the same day if you want! As far as doing 45 mins of cardio 6 days a week...if it's working for you that's great. If not, then change it up. Everyone is different. Some need more cardio, some need less. You have to play with it and see what works for YOU!

HTH a bit!:)

Not Cathe either, but I do cardio/weights the same days frequently, sometimes one after the other, sometimes cardio in the morning & weights at night.

For me it's less a matter of preference & more a matter of necessity. If I want to fit in my entire exercise routine it just must be done. Sometimes you just have to find a comfort zone w/your routine that fits your schedule.

Not Cathe either, but agree with Lauramax....sometimes you have to do cardio and weights on the same day out of necesssity. I do cardio most days of the week (5x to 6x) and then weights 2x - 3x per week. The sessions are either back-to-back or cardio at lunch and weights in the AM or PM. Usually I find that breaking them up keeps me more energized than back-to-back, but sometimes, similar to Laura, I have to do them back-to-back to get them in.
