Canned Tuna in water

Winter

Hi Ladies,

I understand what clean eating is but is canned tuna clean eating? I think I have in my head that it is canned so it must be processed. How about the salmon and tuna pouches - clean?

I really like eating tuna this way so I hope you say YES it is clean.

Thanks,
Winter

Clean eating means eating as close to the natural state of a food as possible. So fresh tuna would be cleaner than canned, but I expect canned would be cleaner than the stuff in the pouches. And tuna in water is of course better than in oil, but you know that one already.

I'd say canned tuna is okay to incorporate into a clean eating diet. It's low fat and pretty healthy. And besides, we have to all make adjustments - canned tuna is incredibly convenient for those of us on the go!

Hi Winter! If your going to eat tuna from a can it must be the togol tuna. This doesn't contain any mercury. All other tuna contains mercury. Kathy:D

If you have a Trader Joe near you that's where you can get it. It says it right on the can. It states what waters the tuna came from. The tuna from Bumble Bee, Starkist & any others contain mercury. HTH, Kathy

PS: Check out oceansalive.org for all other fish you can/can't eat.

From what I've read, there is no such thing as "mercury free" tuna, but there are tunas with lower levels of mercury. I haven't read anything that states otherwise (even Vital Choice which is considered prime tuna has small amounts of mercury). Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
