Can you use a rebounder if you have had a hip replacement?

I had a hip replacement done 2 yrs. ago. I was thinking of buying a rebounder but I am not sure that it would be OK to use with having a hip replacement. I had asked my doc. back when I had the surgery & he acted like he never heard of a rebounder so he never really gave me an answer. He just said that I was not to ever jog. I was wondering if any of you have a hip replacement done & use a rebounder? I am 73 yrs. old, I would just be walking on it with Leslie S. walks, health bouncing, etc.
Thanks!

I think you need to ask your Doctor. If you cleared by your doctor go slow.

I just bought a JumpSport and love it. Good luck!

I agree that you need to discuss this with your doctor as many have different opinions on what you should & should not do. I had a total hip replacement 3 months ago using the anterior approach and my surgeon gave me the green light to "hit it hard" with no limitations at the 3 month mark. He is aware of my fitness level and how I workout but he also made sure I understood that higher impact activities will shorten the life of the new hip. I already gave up running & karate when I was diagnosed 5 years ago and plan to limit my high impact workouts as not to hasten the wear of the device since I'm only 56 and don't wish to have a revision. You can still get an amazing heart pumping workout doing low impact HIIT, spinning etc. and while I haven't used a rebounder, I would think it would be considered a safe low impact activity especially if you are only walking on it. Check back in and let us know what your doctor recommends. Good luck!

Fairlight65,

I guess we all agree here - get your doctors' recommendation first since he would know your situation best.

If your main goal is walking, I would recommend you invest in a treadmill and great pair of walking shoes.
A rebounder is geared towards jumping, you won't get as much use of it and I think NinjaMom had some ground breaking suggestions!
Good luck with your health program and rock the 70's out of the park!

Well, I talked to my doctor today & he said that repetitive impact exercises are not good for the hip implant. He recommended cycling - I have a good exercise bike, so will continue doing that.

Thanks for your help!

Glad you talked to your doctor :) Good luck!
