Can you 'try' protein powders?

Can you 'try' protein powders? I'd like to try a can of, say, Designer Whey or something like it but am hesitant to spend a lot of money and dislike it. Do any companies do samples or something?

I have not found samples. I have found though that the stores will let you return an item if you do not like it.:)

If you have a local Vitamin Shoppe store you can shop at I believe they will take it back if you don't like it. They mentioned that to me last time we were in there trying something new.

Unfortunately, you & I, can be total opposites in the taste bud section, but to me, Designer Whey is pretty tasty. Take it from someone that would eat a bunch of nutrient bars & shakes. Then I had a friend come along & tell me my protein bar "au jour" tasted like soap! It completely ruined it for me. I realized it did taste like soap! I was never able to put a bar in my mouth since then. But these shakes are pretty awesome, because the taste is very "light." It's almost like you can flavor them to your liking. So then you can enjoy them.

Add whatever you think is healthy & will stil taste good in a milkshake.

Quite a few protein powders have single-serving sizes, for travel or people "on the go." Whether you can find them or not is another question. I've tried several this way, because my local health food store carries them. If you find an online source for protein powders, they may carry single-serving sizes. I order from www.veganessentials.com , and they offer single serving packages of a few protein powders (vegan ones) as well as cans.

GNC will take protein powders back, but check before you buy to make sure. I use Myoplex light powder and it comes in individual packets. I don't know it they'll take a canister back.

Christine :)

GNC will take any product back. You will receive a full refund. I returned 2 boxes of myoplex lite shakes that I used about 1/3 of each. I had my receipt. Melissa

Thanks for the replies. I would like to try Designer Whey (I've heard mostly good comments) or something similar but I cringe at spending a bunch of cash and then not liking it at all. The only sample packets I have ever seen were ones that you could get from Labrada but I never tried them. I'd like it to be 'lighter' (not so much like super-thick cake batter) and mixable.
